right oh yeah we don't have many guests you know it's funny Rob came here for

our hip hop discussion and some type of way I felt it was appropriate to invite

him back for this RnB discussion Rob has started and R&B podcast was his name of

the podcast name of the podcast like special night special Kristen : did we inspire you at all

after the podcast I'm gonna take some credit a little bit you know what I'll say this I definitely had the idea to do

an arm B pocket I always wanted an arm be like show like a quiet storm show but those don't exist anymore radio Billy's

unfortunately yeah so a podcast is the next best thing so I always had the idea and after I was a guest knowing I'll

name this podcast later I was like you know what it go yeah I'll do it

is it iTunes SoundCloud what are we funny yeah we're on soundcloud red light special um you know you could search in

SoundCloud iTunes as well I'm hit that new and noteworthy page that was a good look now my only issue with Rob and his

podcast is is that he's such a big fan

of the meek intro who thinks that's the

best intro ever should lead an R&B pop but did you see the arm be cover that I

sent you of the girls singing yes Amiga nope yeah that would have was amazing that was amazing and we have your phone

oh you got the list yes I do emailed it out to everybody and it's um

some producer work last night can I

introduce the audience you guys a big I sent it in the brief to the guys back and forth later we have a new friend to

the show dyani here as well dyani uh the eyes making moves out there

yeah he just works I found eonni does I'd be honored the Miguel album that I just heard yesterday

months ago no I just went to a little listening event probably a few months it was it's pretty dope yeah I've been

anxiously awaiting the UH new Miguel album and I can't wait to get my hands on it kind of streaming shout out to

Miguel um what's it called again wildfire wow wow wow wild heart wild heart that's

June 30th yep well I can't wait to the link comes out for that one I can't wait to [ __ ]

someone just rip the stream it's been like yeah but I will support Miguel

because I [ __ ] with Miguel alright so last week as promised I told you guys

that we would attempt to get into this arm B bracket long overdue we should

have done this ages ago I'm gonna have Philly call in later um you guys will

find out who that is whenever he calls if we get a good line going but uh yeah I compiled this list of albums and I was

unsure you know so we could do a bracket like a March Madness style bracket and I

was unsure of the seating what seating would be appropriate for a few D albums

I was unsure what year we should start at I was unsure if we should do like a

decade by decade I was unsure if we should do like a legends bracket like I

had a lot of questions and I didn't really have very many answers because the only person that I have in my life

that I speak to about R&B is Imani and my father and my father would just vote Kool & the Gang to beat everyone

I didn't want to speak to him about it so and I wanted to make sure we were not forgetting anyone because I managed to

come up with 64 albums um but I was

missing quite a few I was missing quite a few saw and and some people told me that 96 maybe too many yeah but it it

must be done there's a lot of amazing arm B albums out there um do we want to

talk about anything else before we get into this because this probably will take up take up a majority of the time yeah I think damn you know what so

anything I was about your foot what the [ __ ] happened oh my foots not before I broke my foot I was I was trying to be

young so now I'm gonna cast and I'm on crutches for the next three months so if you see a [ __ ] hopping in the street I

let a real [ __ ] I mean so that that's it for that I saw somebody tweet me that

they really wanted to hear us get in depth about the whole Charleston shooting [ __ ] but I'm Anna talk about

that racism exists and shocker shocker but that's my take there um I do think

it's interesting that apparently a sniper shot down the Confederate flag and they called him a thug really this

country's crazy but yeah I don't really want to talk about that because then it's gonna change the whole vibe in the room and I want to keep it real R&B ish

here so yesterday on Twitter and this is

what worries me about doing these type of brackets I'm gonna assume everyone in

this room as an arm B aficionado such as myself for those of you who don't know I've very barely listen to rap music

very very rarely I said barely went at it that out I've rarely listened to

hip-hop it's always on be in my car in my house I'm 35 years old we have time for all this [ __ ] you guys

got going on Oh like the Meek Mill intro no I have talked about okay I'm so happy

to meet new intro I don't know if I'm if I'm good just you know when you get in your car and drive to Dunkin Donuts I

don't know if you want to just be that hyper oh and that's why

you'll grow out of that when puberty is done with you but um so I'm on Twitter yesterday and I and and I normally don't

partake and Twitter debates like Twitter

to me is like an adverse universe where you just say the opposite of what is and

it's okay hashtag Twitter logic yeah yeah exactly and this gentleman that I follow

whoo-hoo normally comes off pretty pretty intelligent he he said and I

almost quote almost quote paraphrasing yeah I'm doing that he said uh sure's

discography is trash yeah he said uh sure he said JT's discography is much

better and uh sure has hasn't an album anywhere in the same class as future

love sexy sounds I don't yeah exactly that album and I said you know what

anyone who trashes uh sure I shouldn't have a music conversation with palm and

then he went on to [ __ ] troll me and I ended up having a music debate with this guy and and his bday was fifty

extra five and you just left flustered so I think he won that you know his his

you know to his point he said that confessions album that everyone loves so much is all over the place

he says it's horribly sequenced and everybody thought that that story was

real and it wasn't and it was wasn't so great I'm just started it was Jermaine Dupri

story but but look Marty's learning stuff that's where you should get our

facts from but I say all that to say that doing these type of brackets where

you vote on albums scares me because of today's audience when a backtrack did

you bring up 8701 cuz that sequence perfectly I told you I didn't want to continue that conversation what

sky so I didn't but it has to be done so I have does Rob have the list I have yes

okay where is my phone uh do I have a phone I have a phone somewhere okay a

couple quick questions for all of you what year should this arm be bracket

start 1990 I was just because if you do

80s to you have to think about thriller you have to think about great prints I

mean well Purple Rain is out here you you want to start from the 80s but you have to do that's a lot of album this

list isn't edited by the way I think of Michael Jackson bad yep I mean bad I

just don't think you could make an R&B bracket without Marvin Gaye on it yeah that makes no sense

here's my thing is you know as you guys podcast um anchored by it by Joe Budden

should being Joe one his life huh that's eighty NASA much too much makes sense

too much I'm a dinosaur to these kids like we're the same age so all right

well we're dinosaurs then and I and honestly if we did that thriller would

win would it not yeah what do we assume our demographic is we wind it off the

wall drop 79 was off the wall right technicality gonna drop it there is that

argument with off the wall and Joe after a bit I think thriller is a great album

his song is horrible like I can't listen to thriller missus Halloween it's like

the Monster Mash okay but you will listen to thriller at seven point a million years later so

very very valid thriller I think is is hailed as the greatest rmv I'm of all

time by the general public I think I mean Purple Rain you have to go back and

forth over here I heard a lot of arguments about that I don't know I'm a Purple Rain guy myself

um the argument I get with Purple Rain is is it an R&B album

I don't know Rach I mean what alternative I don't even think alternative existed when purple where

you drop but you didn't have a box to put it and it was kinda just it was like disco and then everything that evolved

after yeah this guy that's really I get that same argument with a mikes bad

album that it's not an R&B album yeah I could understand that that's what he

became the King of Pop that's when he officially I feel I became the King of Pop was when Dad yes sir old enough to

remember it's not fair to include anybody who's this might take a long high decade yes do we do a bracket per

decade or is that too much I don't think that's fair because I would like to see

albums from this generation going there to some of the albums in the 90s yeah we

got to come up with something guys well just to give the people an idea of our list here as soon as I find it we should

have pulled last night or something you can might break it down male-female groups male female and in groups and that's not

fair either you gotta have it's March Madness everybody's got to fight

everybody everybody's got to play everybody I'm more concerned with the seeding here okay so for the listeners

let me just run down a a quick 64 well

we'll talk about there's nothing before anything quick about this yeah we won't run them all down I tried to go with a

two album minimum because some people I eat Janet Jackson I felt could have

easily had more than two albums once I looked at her discography Mary Jane Mary

Mary Carol maximum Mary is another one who could easily have more than two

albums Andreea three impossible yeah yeah so we did I try to keep it a tattoo

album max with that said for uh sure we went obviously with 8701 in confessions I

don't think there would be any debate there I got some resistance with my are

Kelly 12-play and T P to calm some people said that the Chocolate Factory yeah should have been there is the

chocolate fat rather than you know help me over a 12-play honestly and honestly

I'm not a no I don't think even think it's an age thing I never really liked our Kelly like that oh and so not

because of you know the whole situation with you know him molesting children I just thought that okay

he was a great songwriter I never really liked him like that I just never really

don't know why never yeah just the same thing with Jodeci - wait that's why wait

so commercial people like all you like the commercial dudes yeah I like this I

like this [ __ ] I like this a lot sorry you cheated on me baby well I'm big boys to men to every boys

yeah but if you had to choose between boys to men and Jodeci would pick Jodeci what year are you making me choose I'm

going yeah you have to all of this I was a boys to men guy went forever my lady came out Wow and they came out saying

you this was the debate that we had on the first episode of red light special Jodeci versus boy Sam and we had Matt

woz and we debated well what was Bo's outcome it had to be Jodeci Josie boy Simon sold much more records

they had chart-topping hits but Jodeci you can see the DNA imprint like they influenced a generation when you look at

guys like partynextdoor in the weekend it's a lot more enjoy the sea and

partynextdoor more so than you see a boys to men in flute like that that boy

Sean alright I wasn't saying boys to men influenced anyone right but I'm saying

where is Jodeci in partynextdoor and the weekend first of all that the auto-tune

I mean they were using that a little before 11:00 to faint yeah yeah and just did that kind of bad boy it was like

that rapper R&B vibe that exists now wait wait you can curse in the record and you could

i'm not attributing auto-tune to Jonas no I'm not number one boy so listen I'm

just telling you the outcoming to debate yeah but you might have been talking idiots now

and had a lot of Twitter response well that's who I'm talking about the people that you called out to ones with oh my

that sounds [ __ ] to me you see and this is what scares me about talking R&B with some people because I'm sure that

some people out there would agree with that [ __ ] and I would want to hear a logical reason as to why but we'll get

got fine alright we are on the third one floette reflow etic Lauren Hill The

Miseducation of Lauryn Hill oh it's gonna be tough to beat in any bracket

yep that's a one-seat definitely one thing yeah that's probably that's why do

you have to one seeds with confessions and mis-education I'm rolling whatever you guys here's here an album that you

think should be a one seed please please let me know uh juice and mana to see and

a two seed and a two seed and a 16 seed so give me the ones the twos and a

sixteen okay uh Jill Scott who was Jill Scott D'Angelo brown sugar meow

mary j blige what's the four one one and my life think my life isn't one see I

was gonna say - I think Y and I would put my life over mis-education no no

if we had the tools latex would you say my life over miss education as a one-seat if not I wouldn't say if those

ended up in the same bracket I think my life is a definite one I won't discredit Rob's argument because my life is an

amazing album but damn I miss education

I didn't hear more of this Lauren listen just cuz Mary didn't go crazy and stop

no no well what my argument is miss

education has X Factor which in my opinion is a top 10 song ever you also can't compete with how complete that

album is there's literally not one there's always some record on there on that entire genre I think from from rap

to R&B to more of a funk it's all the same same thing with Mary Mary was an RB

album like that's when they really perfected that um that Ranji vibe that hip-hop beats I would say however but

I'm saying I'm not that I would say that's the case more so with what's the for one one them in my life

I think my life was just perfect it was like once the four one one was the seed that was planted I think my life was the

perfection of it wit just smooth it that whole thing I take do you guys I love you with the Smith & Wesson remix even

though that wasn't on the I was a yeah for just the beat and even without Smith & Wesson like that that as a case sample

and how beautiful that sounds I'm going down the remake you know um um my life

that when she just starts off flighty that the hairs on the back of it next it's amazing it's me listen no argument

for me bro I mean nobody's gonna save it mind my life if not a one-seat I definitely think would be a two-seat do you guys

have a beef with those being the album's from married no I don't share my world

was dope but I think if it's a two album limit yeah those are no very far away the two oh here's my sleeper brandy full

moon and Never Say Never and I want Brande the album self-entitled brandy so

yeah am I crazy for that yep no you're not quit you're not crazy for that I think I think full moon was more mature

in universe I feel like a teenage girl

let me save us some time here because we allowed to talk about that first brandy

album is not better than full moon or Never Say Never Justin Timberlake oh now

this was a interesting one but what two albums do you guys think should be there I have the 20/20 experience and future

sex love sounds wasn't justified

I think justified I will put justified over 2023 I loved justified hard oh wait

which one are you counting both volumes as no and I never heard it it never came

out justified as hard yeah well there's

no debate on future loves no of course not fine twenty experience first and I put that at a high seat definitely not a

two or three but I think feature sex love sounds I see them it could be a three listeners out there please feel

amazing album but all three DS you know I think uh the 20/20 experience the only

one that happened I think that's a preference album right

that's not the jungle discharge back there like right justify was way more

memorable from Crimea River yeah first of all Crimea went that way because it

Britney Spears okay it's still a significant record an album the record

with the clips well the listeners will let us know Oh Neil in my own words and

year of the gentleman absolutely now it's Rory wasn't it you thought Neil had

another album that should have been mentioned no I said year the gentleman is one of the most underrated R&B albums

and I think it should certainly be on it that was my comment about Neil the second new album what was the second new

yeah but there was one in between those two now that was 2010 maybe no maybe

before $2,000 before it does yeah I'm fine I'm fine with these to me oh yeah maybe it was oh you don't know I'm fine

with both of them as well Donnell Jones where I want to be absolute honest

emotional yeah yeah um now we have Miguel kaleidoscope dream I because I'm

a Miguel guy I would like to add his new album to I can I think it's an amazing

voice well that's your fault alright so we won't do that uh all I want was you

was a no Punk Nev III don't know if it deserves to be on the list but I was a mighty fine

never own with her any time and you've got a mighty fine Judy as you today I'm not rolling with

that one sit where we up the dream a love-hate oh yes absolutely yeah now

Rihanna I had more than one album here but because I was trimming down to 64 I

think I think rated R and unapologetic are better than good girl gone bad no I think both on one of those two

albums that he named are flawless I gettin them too confused became her own

well rated ours though is the yeah that show was a weird I didn't like that one

my favorite we honor our booze own Talk That Talk yeah mine too should Rihanna have another album here I think

she deserves to she's got a lot of good [ __ ] bodies of work if she has one

good girl gone bad that's her best out which one we're was out that was when I thought she was

neither sky so good girl gone bad was that wasn't that o7 with umbrella yeah that's umbrella yeah yes I was the

earth might have been her third what single is on good girl gone back oh my brother yeah okay oh you buggin umbrella

those are albums waiting to exhale and boomerang those are albums yep and Purple Rain is an album and that's a

soundtrack see the difference is I think Purple Rain though has a cohesion to it because it was by one first artists as

don't think you can really have a fear R&B bracket without adding boomerang and

waiting to the things I set the sake of getting down to 64 cuz I feel like we're way above 64 not on this list oh no not

this is when I was trying to do 96 I don't remember somebody who have to count uh so we have boomerang and

waiting to a sale the jury can be out on whether we are using sound tracks or not and I'm gonna put Wayne exhale on my on

the entire thing front to back is an amazing that it's probably the best

soundtrack to come out since these soundtracks that we're talking about I'm gonna go in listen to it the strength of

on the first one once well yeah that was about I think that's fun we'd only need

one one from 112 faith evans Faith Evans yes where do you want to see that I

yeah I'm Rob would intend to roni roni God very short very short album but that

one that that makes it to my final four yeah well I think if I'm freestyling

right now a lot of albums in that era was sure I mean off the wall wasn't that long thriller was about ten songs or so

like it was short and sweet yeah and album felt this Bobby Brown Ale

might have been [ __ ] eight Joyce yeah and this is where Amon Ian and I had a

bit of a discrepancy new edition heartbreak mmm now Amani didn't think

that that is the album that should have been there from new edition that was

their best unless you know the what the stuff that they dropped in the 90s wasn't that um but I think that's the

best new edition album I don't know what popcorn love like what else do you put

yeah I didn't really understand where he was going but they did have another about other album was that on for

channel Doug can you stand the rain on that was any heartbreak that's this album right here which is honestly might

be my favorite song of all time can you stand right wouldn't be angry at it it wouldn't be it simplicity my

favorite song of all time is getting that one the [ __ ] out here though

said I was sitting out on this one I haven't heard this in its entirety this album and you haven't heard it me

neither that's why I was like I just don't okay so to speak to you guys about it that's not a reason to not include it

but when this album came out it was it

it did rather well a missed heavy competition people really enjoyed this

output you want to pull up the tracklist what I don't matter if you don't ever I wish I can try some of you ate some of

the music I wasn't all the way they were great stars but I wasn't all the way into that and X is much more you know

what it is I think the R&B songs from fortune are much better R&B songs than

fortune has stuck on stupid 2012 I will never go there what's the [ __ ] I love

and I had a bit of a discrepancy again Trey Songz ready now Trey Songz has a

few other albums that could go here all

ready say black roses was successful in there they put on Nate um neighbors know

my name rest is amazing top to bottom that's what and I think that has to be the distinction because as much as I

like traded I got thing one the woman is such a dope song and trade a is my

Lloyd album was tight too but I think Street love ya but Street love is the one that was the one with them um get it

was it wasn't a reissue though isn't it nah he couldn't use that we had like
