but that right there
- 0:10

- 0:11
this was so [ __ ] monumental to me i
- 0:14
was telling you off air
- 0:16
all i do is watch crime [ __ ] like i'm
- 0:19
like a junkie yeah [ __ ]
- 0:21
like i'm i'm excessive with the [ __ ]
- 0:24
and i try to put myself in the state of
- 0:26
mind of some of the people i watch right
- 0:28
and they get to that point where they
- 0:31
stand them stand you up and say
- 0:33
are you address the court we'd like to
- 0:35
hear from you now
- 0:36
with the families there
- 0:39
victims [ __ ] that don't believe you
- 0:41
[ __ ] to thank you ain't [ __ ] and i'd
- 0:43
be like yo if i was innocent this is a
- 0:46
trap yeah this is there's no way to like
- 0:50
do this tactfully talking for nothing
- 0:53
if you're innocent but if you're
- 0:54
innocent you you don't want to offend
- 0:56
the victim family you don't want to
- 0:58
you don't want to offend you chilling
- 1:00
you innocent you didn't do this if
- 1:01
people don't believe you there's no way
- 1:02
to get this off right so when you say
- 1:05
damn my microphone
- 1:08
yeah
- 1:09
it's like
- 1:10
that puts it in that puts it in
- 1:12
perspective for me
- 1:13
you wouldn't want to talk to them
- 1:16
i've said everything i had to say
- 1:18
what more do you my i said my bad i
- 1:21
apologize i said i didn't do it
- 1:23
i would erupt
- 1:25
yeah i'll go nuts
- 1:27
i'll turn up in these crime shows i
- 1:28
watch they tell me it's important
- 1:31
to not to not go crazy
- 1:33
even your facial and your body
- 1:35
expressions and [ __ ] like that that's
- 1:36
what they tell me i don't know if i'd be
- 1:37
able to do that did they tell that to
- 1:39
you
- 1:40
yeah they took a whole lot to me you
- 1:41
know i i wasn't listening cause i was
- 1:43
like yo dude you got the right
- 1:45
[ __ ] that did this and you gonna
- 1:46
let me out that's all i was interested
- 1:48
in but let me just introduce myself i
- 1:51
know i'ma introduce you oh we getting
- 1:52
there no no no because i'm gonna get
- 1:54
into it we're getting there i don't know
- 1:55
all right stay less you know what i'm
- 1:56
saying i'm playing a ghost face track i
- 1:58
know it's corny
- 2:00
yeah you got shot my brother listen
- 2:02
up y'all [ __ ] could judge me
- 2:05
sorry but that's how we're going to at
- 2:07
least introduce this thing
- 2:10
i had a shot track
- 2:11
queued up but i'm not going to do it
- 2:14
i'm not going to do it
- 2:15
let's do this the right way
- 2:17
all right so listen to this
- 2:20
you are the gentleman i wanted to talk
- 2:22
to
- 2:23
like this is the conversation i wanted
- 2:25
to have
- 2:26
it was super important to me i read the
- 2:28
paper as soon as it came out
- 2:31
blown away as soon as i read it
- 2:33
and when we started communicating i was
- 2:35
like yeah that's important i'm not
- 2:37
prepared for your family to come in here
- 2:41
i'm not i me personally am not so
- 2:46
yeah i'll say like i told parks man shy
- 2:48
i don't have to tell because me and him
- 2:50
ran around for a little bit
- 2:52
ghost is in all of our top tens here
- 2:55
and no question i feel like they should
- 2:57
tell you when somebody a top 10 list is
- 2:59
at least going to be present
- 3:02
heard me while out about the verses the
- 3:04
ghosts and ray and he didn't even tell
- 3:06
me that ghost face was walking in my
- 3:07
front door no he didn't know
- 3:09
yeah ain't no
- 3:11
say vine back there like yo
- 3:14
that's that's the ghost face
- 3:25
should i not say grant
- 3:27
tell me no no you know grant williams is
- 3:29
a very famous now i'm proud of you know
- 3:31
what i'm saying
- 3:32
you call me grant williams aka joseph
- 3:34
sharp aka big huh yes
- 3:37
[Applause]
- 3:38
yes sir yes sir yes sir
- 3:42
we have special guest grant williams in
- 3:44
the building thank you for coming
- 3:46
yes thank you for being here yes how you
- 3:48
doing
- 3:50
i'm feeling better these days you know
- 3:52
it's a long it was a long journey for
- 3:54
those who don't know my story you know
- 3:55
wrongly convicted second to 25 to life i
- 3:58
was just turned 25 years old i can't
- 4:01
comprehend this
- 4:03
you know so you just turned 25 i was
- 4:05
turning 20. this is 97 yes and i got 7
- 4:08
to 25 to life and 97.
- 4:11
so
- 4:12
it was like i didn't i didn't believe it
- 4:14
was going to happen you know i figured
- 4:15
they'd get the right guy
- 4:17
you know and then i started realizing
- 4:18
the system that
- 4:20
if you've been in any type of trouble
- 4:21
when you was a youth it's more easier
- 4:23
for them to put a crime on you because
- 4:26
your lawyer is going to recommend
- 4:27
don't take the stand because you've been
- 4:29
convicted in the past
- 4:31
you know so you're like a more of an
- 4:32
easy talk this is what everybody don't
- 4:34
look at
- 4:35
you know it's brothers who don't get in
- 4:37
no trouble when they put these type of
- 4:38
crimes on them but the ones who has been
- 4:41
in trouble in the past
- 4:42
you're much much more easier talking so
- 4:45
at the time you had a jacket
- 4:46
i had a yeah i had i was convicted when
- 4:49
i was younger
- 4:50
and um i strongly believe that because
- 4:52
of that conviction they already had it
- 4:54
laid out like okay we we already know
- 4:56
that his lawyer is not going to that his
- 4:57
lawyer is going to recommend he don't
- 4:58
take the stand and people want to know
- 5:01
if you didn't do it they want to hear
- 5:02
you talk
- 5:03
you know and i'm like yo let me get on
- 5:05
stand tell my story
- 5:06
ah williams don't worry about it the
- 5:08
case seems strong listen let me tell
- 5:09
what happened
- 5:10
like just to sit there and be quiet is
- 5:13
one of the worst films in the world when
- 5:14
you can't defend yourself already
- 5:16
already you get into one of the
- 5:17
questions i have when i watch these
- 5:20
shits on tv where i'm like
- 5:22
if it were me
- 5:23
and i were innocent
- 5:25
no matter what i was going through in
- 5:27
the court with the cops and the jury and
- 5:29
the judge and all that i would have such
- 5:30
a
- 5:31
a beacon of light at the end of the
- 5:33
tunnel because i didn't do it
- 5:34
i would feel like hey y'all could say
- 5:36
whatever the [ __ ] you want to say
- 5:38
if you go out and go try to find who did
- 5:41
it then i'll be exonerated but
- 5:44
not not that simple
- 5:46
nah
- 5:47
it's not that simple
- 5:49
you know in the perfect world that's how
- 5:51
that would go
- 5:52
but unfortunately in the world that
- 5:53
we're living today especially as young
- 5:55
black men you know
- 5:56
we're always targeting in different
- 5:58
areas it's just not when the
- 5:59
conservation is with a whole lot of
- 6:00
things crime
- 6:02
everything that's no good you see a
- 6:04
black face you know what i'm saying
- 6:05
whatever it is it's always oh they lead
- 6:07
the motion high diabetes or they do the
- 6:10
most crime it's always a black face it's
- 6:12
like nobody else but then everybody want
- 6:14
to be like us this is a you know this is
- 6:16
a scare that you deal with so when you
- 6:18
go into that system you're already
- 6:20
guilty
- 6:21
yeah yeah this is you got to prove your
- 6:23
innocence that's real it's supposed to
- 6:25
be you know i'm innocent to prove and
- 6:27
guilty but it's guilty to proven
- 6:29
innocence how how aware were you of that
- 6:31
at the time
- 6:33
i was i was unaware yeah yeah i was i
- 6:36
was unaware i didn't think it could
- 6:37
happen like i said like when they
- 6:38
arrested me i was like murder
- 6:40
i said it's just this right here i call
- 6:42
ghosts
- 6:43
i was like yo they talking about they
- 6:45
want me for murder that happened
- 6:46
yesterday he was like for real
- 6:48
and then i was with my friend right
- 6:49
there born because i'm about to say
- 6:51
would it would have even with an alibi
- 6:53
man if i had an alibi then i'm really in
- 6:56
there feeling big [ __ ] like yeah
- 6:58
yeah
- 6:59
yeah but i'm gonna tell you yeah i'm
- 7:00
gonna tell [ __ ] something i dick yeah
- 7:01
especially if i have alibi so that meant
- 7:03
nothing
- 7:04
no no no no how could all of these
- 7:06
things mean nothing
- 7:08
well well the reason is because
- 7:11
you know when they want to put a case on
- 7:12
you especially you gotta remember i got
- 7:14
locked up in the 90s you know what i'm
- 7:16
saying so the 90s was the crack era and
- 7:19
and then you know in new york it was so
- 7:20
much murders that they just couldn't
- 7:22
solve more so they just was putting them
- 7:24
on brothers you know especially black
- 7:26
brothers spanish brothers it really
- 7:27
didn't matter even some white brothers
- 7:29
you know what i mean but
- 7:30
blacks and the spanish was the most so
- 7:32
that's why you see today all these
- 7:34
wrongful convictions from those just
- 7:35
from the 90s
- 7:37
where they actually clearing them up so
- 7:39
when you talk about an alibi as soon as
- 7:40
they put the cuffs on you they don't
- 7:41
want to hit none of that guilty [ __ ]
- 7:43
you're getting this
- 7:44
they cuffed you you guilty that's it
- 7:46
tell it tell it tell it when you go to
- 7:47
the jury so they they offer you
- 7:49
ridiculous time
- 7:50
you know you feel you didn't do a murder
- 7:52
i'm not taking [ __ ] i ain't do it
- 7:55
i'm gonna tell you some gangster [ __ ]
- 7:56
right so one time i'm in the court pins
- 7:59
right so i had about a year on racket
- 8:00
sound so i'm like all right let me ask
- 8:02
this lawyer i said yo what's the cop out
- 8:05
so they sent everybody back to racket
- 8:07
salad you know
- 8:09
and they left me there it was like
- 8:10
williams so let's save the court doors
- 8:13
like about 10 feet away they opened up
- 8:15
the court door and they had the cell
- 8:16
open i was the only one in there so they
- 8:19
bought me out they said bring them out
- 8:20
and when i came out it was like it was
- 8:22
some gangster [ __ ] i had three four da's
- 8:25
you know they was always fighting
- 8:26
against the case i have just my lawyer
- 8:28
and the judge was sitting sideways
- 8:31
and i said yo so what's the cop out
- 8:33
they said all right well you've been
- 8:34
convicted take 12 and that's 25. i said
- 8:37
i didn't do it why would i take that why
- 8:39
would i tell you you know what i'm
- 8:40
saying that's crazy
- 8:42
and they sat back and it's just crazy
- 8:44
they said yeah we know you ain't do it
- 8:47
you know straight up so i'm looking at
- 8:48
my lawyer like yo you heard them no
- 8:51
i swear that everyone loved me that pops
- 8:54
so we'll go down to a flat 10.
- 8:57
i said they said you do eight years and
- 8:59
four months
- 9:00
i said i'm not taking that [ __ ] yeah i
- 9:02
think y'all is you know i got offended
- 9:04
you know and i was you know a little
- 9:05
immature i didn't know what the hell was
- 9:07
going on i just didn't think it could
- 9:08
happen yeah i'm getting goosebumps but
- 9:10
yeah even if i was innocent i may have
- 9:11
thought about it a little bit no not
- 9:14
that's what they want your dog
- 9:16
that's my design no i get it i totally
- 9:18
understand
- 9:19
tim was like forever
- 9:24
you know
- 9:25
so next thing i know maybe about a
- 9:27
couple of months later
- 9:29
like i was saying they was like bringing
- 9:31
the first panel i didn't even know what
- 9:33
the hell the first panel was i tell
- 9:35
everybody i tell a story all the time i
- 9:37
turned around and cleared the courtroom
- 9:39
i turned around and looked back oh i
- 9:41
thought it was snowing all white faces
- 9:43
no black people these are jurors
- 9:46
so i'm like yo that's the best and i
- 9:48
hate this game
- 9:50
no at that point you could yeah you know
- 9:52
what i said to myself 25 to life
- 9:54
i knew it
- 9:56
you know
- 9:57
that was the first that's the first that
- 9:58
was my first thought i zoned off when i
- 10:00
was like were you kept up to date at all
- 10:02
but between your lawyer with the the
- 10:05
process of jury selection even was that
- 10:07
a surprise to you
- 10:09
what you mean like kept up like [ __ ]
- 10:10
like when you say the first panel came
- 10:12
in it was all white faces yeah i was
- 10:13
surprised because i never experienced
- 10:15
none of this in my life i never went to
- 10:16
try out i never knew about you could you
- 10:18
know how many you know challenges you
- 10:20
got so if you got a murder you get 23
- 10:23
challenges and the da get 23 challenges
- 10:25
so you got a panel of 50 to 100 people
- 10:27
coming in so if you only got 23
- 10:29
challenges and you got majority
- 10:31
caucasian people some of them cops i got
- 10:33
to use my challenges to get them off so
- 10:35
now when you bring about the third pound
- 10:37
of win when you see a few black faces
- 10:39
you don't have no more challenges and
- 10:41
black people don't want to sit on the
- 10:42
jury they don't okay
- 10:59
yeah they'd be proud to do that
- 11:01
i've contributed my part ma'am think
- 11:03
about what he said
- 11:04
i'm thinking about all this no you 25
- 11:06
you got a jacket
- 11:09
you go get some [ __ ] that
- 11:11
because it's supposed to be a jury of
- 11:12
our peers you're a 25 year old black boy
- 11:15
from the projects
- 11:16
some white lady from long island ain't
- 11:18
my [ __ ] peer yep that's a fact
- 11:20
you know what i'm saying and then they
- 11:21
build it up like yeah he snatched the
- 11:22
pocketbook when he was 12. they'd be
- 11:24
like yeah yeah
- 11:25
we gotta get him off the street he did
- 11:27
it yeah he did it before we don't gotta
- 11:28
hear [ __ ]
- 11:29
you did it
- 11:31
and that's crazy my [ __ ] well no i know
- 11:33
it's a shame that you have to kind of be
- 11:35
well informed on the business of the
- 11:38
court system
- 11:39
to really get your [ __ ] off like yeah
- 11:41
it's a shame that like this was a
- 11:43
surprise all the [ __ ] he said he was
- 11:44
proud [ __ ] i didn't know i didn't know i
- 11:45
didn't know i didn't know but they run
- 11:47
into business still
- 11:49
like they gotta pin this somewhere on
- 11:52
somebody
- 11:53
did you
- 11:54
um
- 11:56
i feel like this is almost a stupid
- 11:58
question but i have to ask because
- 11:59
you're innocent
- 12:01
what was the feeling from like the
- 12:02
families of people that maybe didn't
- 12:04
believe you or just anybody that didn't
- 12:06
believe you
- 12:08
well you know a lot of people on stat
- 12:11
now because they was out there that day
- 12:12
it happened in broad daylight so they
- 12:14
seen what happened they seen what
- 12:15
transpired but you know people don't
- 12:17
like to deal with the courts
- 12:19
of course you know so that came
- 12:20
afterwards but um
- 12:22
you know like the family the victim's
- 12:24
family they came into court i believe
- 12:27
like
- 12:28
like i ain't even know the dude had a
- 12:29
sister like i know her so i turned
- 12:32
around it was like the courtroom was
- 12:33
there for me you know my family and my
- 12:36
friends basically filled the whole
- 12:37
quarter the victim's family wasn't there
- 12:39
because they probably because they knew
- 12:40
i didn't do this [ __ ] you know what i'm
- 12:42
saying so when i turned around
- 12:44
i seen the victim sister not knowing
- 12:46
that that's his sister i'm giving her
- 12:47
like you know what's going on and she
- 12:49
looking at me with the gas face like
- 12:51
he was screwing me so i'm saying and i
- 12:53
started playing two two together i seen
- 12:55
what she was sitting and i said oh okay
- 12:57
she want to play this game and she live
- 12:59
in the hood and she know i didn't do it
- 13:00
you know i had nothing to do with it but
- 13:02
i understand now that the victim's
- 13:04
family wants somebody to pay you see
- 13:06
them saying whether they got the right
- 13:07
guy the wrong guy they want somebody to
- 13:09
go down that's [ __ ] he didn't do it
- 13:11
they locked him up for the reason [ __ ]
- 13:12
that you got to deal with yeah you know
- 13:14
what i'm saying so at that point
- 13:15
someone's angry yeah they hurt right
- 13:17
they hurt someone somebody got to pay
- 13:20
nah but
- 13:22
that's real [ __ ]
- 13:24
now i'm just saying but
- 13:26
in our hoods cause we all come from
- 13:28
basically the same [ __ ] right
- 13:30
broad daylight some might get shot i'm
- 13:33
assuming yeah yeah you got it somebody
- 13:34
gets shot
- 13:36
if the hood know who did it how do you
- 13:38
like one of your own go to jail for it
- 13:40
yeah stop this come on stop that's
- 13:42
because i'm not talking about white
- 13:44
america i'm talking about hours i will
- 13:46
tell you how ish cause you just like he
- 13:48
said [ __ ] hood and keep a secret yeah
- 13:50
the hood ain't coming to court and who
- 13:52
to keep a secret ish who won't be the
- 13:54
person to go to court and say yo it
- 13:55
wasn't him it was him no you ain't gotta
- 13:58
say one it was him but you gotta be like
- 14:00
nah i wasn't him
- 14:02
who wasn't how you know it wasn't him i
- 14:03
guess that opens them up the two we know
- 14:05
come on we know this okay so
- 14:10
the lawyer
- 14:12
panel jury no i'm not taking that i'm
- 14:15
innocent i didn't do this we fighting
- 14:17
this
- 14:18
right
- 14:21
when it when when you find out that
- 14:24
you're going down guilty
- 14:27
you're tapping lawyer appeal this i'm
- 14:28
out of here that wasn't that wasn't
- 14:31
going like that
- 14:32
when they said guilty i went off in the
- 14:34
court i got the articles to this day
- 14:36
they said they were saying that i was
- 14:37
trying to escape i wasn't trying i was
- 14:39
just just like anybody else that's
- 14:41
innocent you don't believe me like i
- 14:43
don't know i'm guilty hey wait up wait
- 14:45
up yeah let me out just
- 14:47
right so they all you know you know they
- 14:49
all you know restrained me officers and
- 14:51
everybody in the courtroom got up it was
- 14:53
that's how i imagined it would go when i
- 14:54
watched this [ __ ] on the tv
- 14:56
it was like it wasn't just that quiet
- 14:58
like guilty and that was it it was
- 15:00
eruption in the court you know i'm
- 15:01
saying everybody was like what because
- 15:03
it was too much evidence that was
- 15:04
displayed at trial that i'm not gonna
- 15:05
get too much until right now that prove
- 15:08
my innocence
- 15:09
you follow what i'm saying so it was a
- 15:11
and listen
- 15:12
i don't care what nobody says
- 15:15
racism
- 15:17
strong
- 15:18
because
- 15:19
it was the only eye witness it was a one
- 15:22
eyewitness and he was caucasian
- 15:24
you know what i'm saying it was all
- 15:26
caucasian jurors and it all boiled down
- 15:29
to who they going with who they rocking
- 15:31
with or me
- 15:33
and i seen that [ __ ] firsthand i don't
- 15:34
care what nobody said i seen it and i
- 15:36
had experienced it and
- 15:38
[ __ ] was crazy like when i heard the
- 15:40
guilty like wait up nothing
- 15:42
nothing added though that's the real
- 15:44
reason of why i personally think the
- 15:46
judicial system is flawed grant is
- 15:48
flawed for many reasons but
- 15:50
when you say that justice will be
- 15:52
decided by a jury of our peers
- 15:55
i don't ever think that can be true
- 15:58
because when you put humans there all we
- 16:01
have is our interpretation of things our
- 16:03
experiences
- 16:05
yeah yeah that's it so no you put these
- 16:08
[ __ ] white
- 16:10
it just spells set up it spells set up
- 16:12
to me listen listen to you i get mad
- 16:15
watching it i get mad reading it i get
- 16:17
mad i've read a lot of stories about the
- 16:19
state intentionally trying to get rid of
- 16:21
black jurors for whatever reason they
- 16:22
can yes to win that's why you talk about
- 16:24
the challenges yeah they want they want
- 16:26
you out of here
- 16:27
but why do i have to tackle granite i
- 16:30
didn't do this horrific crime and y'all
- 16:32
think i did which is heavy and
- 16:34
overwhelming enough right why do i have
- 16:37
to unpack racism now
- 16:40
like it's just so nuanced
- 16:42
your conviction of the crime is embedded
- 16:45
in racism
- 16:46
no i know yeah i know you wouldn't even
- 16:49
beat got cuffed from the rip
- 16:51
one i wouldn't listen last week i was
- 16:53
telling y'all that i had some court [ __ ]
- 16:55
that went on where the only reason i was
- 16:57
saved was because there was a neighbor a
- 16:59
nosey neighbor yeah that was recording
- 17:02
yeah
- 17:08
but she was kind enough to give me this
- 17:10
footage it was hers but she gave it to
- 17:12
me and they tried to resist it in the
- 17:14
court but
- 17:15
you see this you see what's going on
- 17:16
right think about that
- 17:19
they can know you innocent
- 17:20
and gotta take to prove your innocence
- 17:23
right these are the people these are the
- 17:25
people that we hire
- 17:27
to protect the server so they got a tape
- 17:29
that says yo he really ain't do this
- 17:30
[ __ ] we trying to suppress that evidence
- 17:34
not to come to trial
- 17:35
who the [ __ ] is you serving
- 17:38
if you know a [ __ ] ain't doing let that
- 17:40
[ __ ] free don't try to suppress the
- 17:42
evidence well that's why i'm listening
- 17:43
to what he said that's crazy monday what
- 17:45
if that neighbor didn't want to give me
- 17:46
the tape because she ain't like me
- 17:47
because i was like
- 17:48
next grant williams you know what i'm
- 17:50
saying you did that time came home and
- 17:52
hopefully you would have got the tape
- 17:54
and it would have proved your innocence
- 17:55
all right so you are roughed in the
- 17:57
court
- 17:58
yeah yeah yeah naturally i know i say
- 18:00
rightfully so yeah that was that was a
- 18:02
natural feeling i believe anybody that's
- 18:04
innocent was said wait up you know i
- 18:06
just couldn't believe it you know and yo
- 18:08
i'm not gonna lie i cried when i was
- 18:09
down and i don't cry and i ain't cried
- 18:11
since that court date
- 18:13
from the only two and a half decades
- 18:15
i said that's it i'm gonna fight these
- 18:16
people you know i'm saying i'm not gonna
- 18:18
deal with my emotions i can let my
- 18:19
emotions see my intelligence i'm gonna
- 18:21
use my intelligence and i'm gonna get
- 18:23
the [ __ ] out of here i'm gonna make it
- 18:24
out of here one day you know i'm not
- 18:26
gonna die in here when did that come
- 18:27
about as soon as they put the cuffs on
- 18:29
me and i blew trial i said i'm gonna
- 18:31
make it out
- 18:32
all right i always had that determine i
- 18:34
you know
- 18:36
i wanted to make sure that
- 18:38
i wasn't gonna get lost in the system
- 18:40
because i was seeing it and i was seeing
- 18:42
it at a young age i seen brothers
- 18:44
getting stabbed to death killed i seen
- 18:46
brothers losing their mind i've seen
- 18:48
they fight what's going on i just
- 18:49
refused to be one of them brothers you
- 18:51
know what i'm saying so when they put
- 18:52
the cuffs on me and they put this crime
- 18:54
on me i was like wait up so i mean right
- 18:57
then when i blew trout
- 18:59
and then and then now i'm up north in
- 19:00
the mountains and these maximum
- 19:01
penitentiaries i'm like yo bouncing
- 19:04
around yeah so i'm saying to myself yo
- 19:06
how the [ __ ] my dad was just laying
- 19:08
there i said nah
- 19:11
that's not gonna be the end of me
- 19:14
that's not gonna help and how my chapter
- 19:16
ended my life
- 19:17
prison and dead and that's that
- 19:19
i'm amazed that your journey didn't
- 19:20
start with discouragement
- 19:23
nah nah
- 19:24
you know i would have started there okay
- 19:27
i'd have been depressed for about yeah i
- 19:28
would have you somebody yo no lie i
- 19:30
cried they gotta cried every hour yeah
- 19:33
no i'm saying because you know what it
- 19:34
is it's like it's just like i said
- 19:36
before i'm no stranger to hard times you
- 19:38
feel what i'm saying so
- 19:39
i know things are going to get rough but
- 19:41
i wasn't expecting that
- 19:43
see that's loud sounding like everybody
- 19:45
talks about what they would have did and
- 19:46
all that but when you place in
- 19:48
situations man
- 19:50
you don't know what you're going to do
- 19:51
but you know you're going to have you're
- 19:52
going to go on survival instance
- 19:54
automatically we'll see that's just
- 19:56
going to kick in that's why as i listen
- 19:58
to you talk listen i don't know nothing
- 20:00
about the stuff that you're saying
- 20:02
but as i listen to you talk i'm trying
- 20:04
to play it out like if it was me what
- 20:07
you would do right
- 20:08
the discouraged portion of what i'm
- 20:10
saying would have had to been
- 20:11
short-lived for me
- 20:12
because then i would have had to get
- 20:14
into what he just said survival jungle
- 20:16
mode yo i didn't do this i'd be an
- 20:18
animal [ __ ] you going
- 20:19
i'm about to lay up with the animals not
- 20:21
this person that y'all saying
- 20:24
but it's on now yeah so we're here i
- 20:26
ain't gonna walk in here just tell all
- 20:28
these [ __ ] i do it [ __ ] i'm gonna eat
- 20:30
this food and go to sleep pea food
- 20:34
and don't you know something too it's
- 20:35
like this is like ghosts i used to call
- 20:37
more time yo
- 20:38
like and my shame were born like this
- 20:41
you know my family that's my strength
- 20:43
you see i'm saying i had to go in and
- 20:44
take the phone and yo yo you know i had
- 20:46
to do what i had to do but that was my
- 20:48
strength when you hear your family and
- 20:49
your people like yo you know saying that
- 20:51
they gonna stand behind you
- 20:53
that gives you more strength you know
- 20:55
what i'm saying and it gives you faith
- 20:56
that you're gonna make it you know what
- 20:58
i mean so i had support but i'm the type
- 21:00
of person like i'm gonna do what i got
- 21:02
to do regardless because i know at the
- 21:04
end of the day i'm locking in that cell
- 21:06
i got one so i got to do everything to
- 21:08
keep my own sanity first
- 21:11
96 because i keep getting into your
- 21:13
shoes right but let me try to step out
- 21:16
of that for a sec right and nine
- 21:18
triumph is 96 91 97.
- 21:22
nah 96 is purple tape yeah iron man
- 21:26
yeah i was there for iron man
- 21:31
but that's your hope but that's just
- 21:33
hope i know but i want to i want to
- 21:34
highlight that yes that's the hope
- 21:36
because this is where we are in the
- 21:37
story
- 21:38
but let's go back now
- 21:40
this is 96
- 21:43
my family is my family's kings of the
- 21:45
culture
- 21:47
my family are the kings of the culture
- 21:48
and this happened and you take me away
- 21:50
from this this happened now you take me
- 21:52
away from the money the girls the trap
- 21:55
nothing that can make that up were
- 21:57
nothing
- 21:58
last week i talked about last week on
- 22:00
this part the nba draft was recently
- 22:02
graham right and uh there was a
- 22:04
gentleman um terence clark clark
- 22:08
who died in a car crash in april and he
- 22:10
was a projected top 10 pick
- 22:12
so when the draft happened
- 22:14
i was saying how
- 22:16
like wow
- 22:17
three months away you're just three
- 22:19
months away from
- 22:22
generational changes right
- 22:24
and damn god
- 22:26
it's different now it's different now
- 22:29
not to that extent because you're with
- 22:31
us
- 22:32
but that's got to be the feeling in 96
- 22:35
that's some [ __ ] oh y'all trying to come
- 22:37
in though y'all see what's going to see
- 22:39
an ice cream video you'll see you'll see
- 22:41
y'all see something that's going on and
- 22:43
you see my family coming to court and my
- 22:45
family is somebody in the social scene
- 22:47
that's a fact we're going to get you
- 22:48
[ __ ] remember him
- 22:51
you hear you hear juice worlds people
- 22:53
now some of the people that was on that
- 22:55
on that uh
- 22:56
jet
- 22:57
talk about how hey we was coming in
- 23:00
and it's like they knew we was coming in
- 23:02
because it's customs but
- 23:03
they was treating us
- 23:05
like they knew we was coming in
- 23:07
it wasn't a normal
- 23:09
so he swallowed a bunch of [ __ ] like and
- 23:11
that's their story to tell but it's just
- 23:14
that paranoia of
- 23:16
are you treating me as sir you're
- 23:18
treating this a certain way i'm being
- 23:19
targeted a certain way this is not going
- 23:21
normal
- 23:24
how was your first week
- 23:26
in jail
- 23:28
please where where where were you at but
- 23:30
you was on trial for what how long you
- 23:32
was on trial 18 months so you so you had
- 23:35
already said no no no no no
- 23:37
no
- 23:38
i was on trial for only two weeks
- 23:40
what
- 23:41
but you sat for 18 months hold on what
- 23:43
y'all don't know is that what i didn't
- 23:45
know and i just found out
- 23:47
was that
- 23:48
my case was solved in four hours what
- 23:51
yeah i just i just i didn't know that
- 23:54
you know and they turned everything over
- 23:56
because you know that goes into civil
- 23:57
court but they i didn't know that
- 24:00
this homicide was solved in four hours
- 24:02
that's that's my man
- 24:04
yeah so incorrectly important
- 24:06
yeah i mean they got me and the case was
- 24:08
closed
- 24:10
what you mean they got the cops locked
- 24:12
you up and stopped so that was it it was
- 24:14
done in four hours
- 24:16
another
- 24:19
how could that be possible it's
- 24:21
impossible you lazy cops [ __ ] yeah it's
- 24:23
sammy this is the same shot
- 24:26
we know cops we listen it's black man
- 24:28
here we know cops what i'm saying is who
- 24:31
the [ __ ] do we call on when we know the
- 24:33
cops is copping
- 24:34
who the [ __ ]
- 24:36
there got to be a pecking order dog we
- 24:38
just said that they could find some
- 24:40
evidence that
- 24:42
literally exotic will exonerate a
- 24:44
[ __ ] and legally
- 24:47
they'll suppress it that's a fact so who
- 24:50
the
- 24:50
[ __ ] that you calling on the
- 24:52
[ __ ] are saying suppress it
- 24:54
yeah
- 24:56
at some point it started being about
- 24:57
legal instead of right if the law don't
- 25:00
necessarily be right well that's why i
- 25:01
was there so they'll follow the rules of
- 25:03
the law instead of following the rules
- 25:05
of morality that turns into good i'm
- 25:06
saying like that's the [ __ ] we want
- 25:08
to put a w up in this yeah like yeah
- 25:10
morality don't play no part in this
- 25:12
they don't have no they don't have no
- 25:14
conscience to even deal with principles
- 25:15
and morals it's like we looking to get
- 25:17
us you know we're looking to make our
- 25:19
career go up and off of grant williams
- 25:21
with a murder conviction it's like
- 25:23
now i got another notch on the map
- 25:25
that's right right and if you could
- 25:26
convict the innocent that's hard it's
- 25:29
easy but it's hard so they know it
- 25:31
that's like a big challenge oh you got
- 25:33
williams oh yeah yo you know and they
- 25:35
know the deal so it's so it's like it's
- 25:38
just a that's why i say man like
- 25:41
mentally
- 25:42
the mind is fragile that's some [ __ ]
- 25:44
somebody could go through that and look
- 25:46
at the case with jay-z with the kids
- 25:49
rest in peace
- 25:50
you know what i'm saying it's like yo
- 25:52
people just saying we're not made to be
- 25:54
caged
- 25:55
you feel what i'm saying we we us us as
- 25:57
humans and animals we like to enjoy
- 26:00
animals and even yeah yeah that's
- 26:01
something like the biggest you know so
- 26:03
when you put somebody that you know that
- 26:05
you know at a certain age in their life
- 26:07
and you still actually even though i'm
- 26:08
25 i'm still i'm still immature
- 26:11
you're still developing
- 26:13
what i'm saying yeah so when you put
- 26:14
somebody in you put them through that
- 26:16
storm it's like yo
- 26:17
oh [ __ ]
- 26:19
you know what i'm saying like what you
- 26:20
gonna do and i said all right so now
- 26:22
became personal with me and i don't
- 26:24
worry about inmates going into jail
- 26:26
something like i'm not worried about
- 26:28
none of that
- 26:29
i mean it's you know but that's
- 26:30
the system was always my problem and my
- 26:34
beef that's what kept me that's what
- 26:35
kept me fighting i said that that [ __ ]
- 26:38
right there when you wage war that keep
- 26:39
you alive yeah like that's your
- 26:41
motivation yeah i slept all day with
- 26:42
that judge turning sideways and they
- 26:44
talking about on some gangster [ __ ] like
- 26:47
yeah well we know you didn't do it and
- 26:48
they listening like it was nothing like
- 26:50
my life wasn't nothing i took that
- 26:52
person that's why i said for the rest of
- 26:54
my life this is what i'm gonna be doing
- 26:56
advocating the truth you see what i'm
- 26:58
saying stills don't happen to nobody
- 27:00
i want everybody you know the raw day
- 27:02
and there's so much more that i you know
- 27:04
but this is this is really uh uh a sad
- 27:07
injustice
- 27:09
and you wouldn't look at me and know
- 27:11
that because
- 27:12
mentally i keep myself strong and by me
- 27:14
speaking about it that's my therapy well
- 27:17
yeah
- 27:18
but i wouldn't look at you and know that
- 27:20
because you got to be the flying snicker
- 27:22
from jail apparently
- 27:26
you look good
- 27:29
when you came home
- 27:42
so so you go up
- 27:45
your family your loved ones your network
- 27:47
give me the give me the sentiment
- 27:49
how they feel
- 27:51
you had to be strong because you this is
- 27:53
your mission to go you'll have but yeah
- 27:55
how your people are feeling i got kids
- 27:57
there was babies how many kids three you
- 27:59
know there's babies
- 28:01
i got two boys and the girls and they
- 28:02
was babies and and it's like you know
- 28:04
one time you know i was on rocket sound
- 28:06
and my son came
- 28:08
and he didn't want to let my leg go
- 28:10
you know what i'm saying i'm like oh
- 28:11
come on come on you trying to yeah you
- 28:13
trying to [ __ ] us up in here
- 28:28
you know what i'm saying i don't like
- 28:29
the like you know
- 28:31
the the stories i got to tell dealing
- 28:33
with this is
- 28:35
it's going to be like nah
- 28:37
you know but that's just a mental scar i
- 28:39
have you know what i'm saying but the
- 28:41
thing is and this is where it's like a
- 28:43
total mind [ __ ] for me i'm sure you got
- 28:44
stories to tell the stories that would
- 28:47
exist
- 28:48
if by chance you weren't here to have
- 28:50
stories to tell like right like i'm a
- 28:52
dad too that's right so
- 28:56
it's funny it's funny we're gonna take a
- 28:58
break cause they aren't gonna give me
- 28:58
the cry here but when i take drop my son
- 29:01
off at like my dad's
- 29:03
and then i'll go
- 29:04
like i'll hear him cry through the door
- 29:07
so i won't want to leave so i'll call
- 29:09
i'll start blowing my dad's phone he's
- 29:10
like yo man he's good
- 29:13
go get out like why you keep doing that
- 29:15
i'm like yo i just can't stand to hear
- 29:16
my baby yeah like cry
- 29:19
like i know he's good i know you my dad
- 29:21
you got it but i can't stand to hear
- 29:22
that so for you to talk about like your
- 29:24
kid grabbing onto the man
- 29:27
and you gotta go back to the joking are
- 29:29
you looking you ain't going you ain't
- 29:30
going here leaving them at school now
- 29:33
jungle because we all we all work like
- 29:35
we all come from what we come from and
- 29:37
we all get it how we get it
- 29:39
and it might not always be the safest
- 29:41
way right
- 29:42
so let's say i don't make it home one
- 29:44
day
- 29:45
and yeah it's [ __ ] up for the people
- 29:46
that love me
- 29:47
but my contribution
- 29:49
to my family
- 29:51
to my kids to my mom to my dad to my
- 29:54
uncles to the people that need me
- 29:57
i'm in heaven
- 29:59
[ __ ] is [ __ ] up down here without me
- 30:02
so yeah he alive mm-hmm yeah
- 30:05
and you're taking them away from
- 30:07
you just [ __ ] up black infrastructure
- 30:09
yeah yeah you just [ __ ] structure
- 30:12
intentionally intentionally
- 30:14
the same design that was happening when
- 30:16
they took the factory jobs away and all
- 30:18
that we can go on and on about this but
- 30:20
when you keep hearing it right yeah
- 30:22
ew nah and this is the crazy [ __ ]
- 30:25
for him i can't
- 30:28
in a million years say hi he had to feel
- 30:30
but dog when you did it
- 30:33
and you sitting there that's like damn i
- 30:35
got court yeah my [ __ ] when you didn't
- 30:38
do it and you sitting there oh man you
- 30:41
full of rage
- 30:43
my [ __ ] that's a different animal like
- 30:45
when you did it you cheated on your girl
- 30:47
i right damn she caught me when you know
- 30:50
you really ain't cheat though you'll be
- 30:53
on fire
- 30:54
you'll be on like yo what the [ __ ] you
- 30:56
talk yo yeah yeah but when you killed
- 30:58
her you like damn she called me
- 30:59
that right but yo fam if you really
- 31:01
didn't do it and you got 25 to life and
- 31:04
you didn't do it i watched 50's show for
- 31:07
life right but i watch it from the
- 31:09
comfort of my home
- 31:10
and
- 31:11
that [ __ ] be going through hell in
- 31:13
there what yeah
- 31:15
the aryans was on him his lawyer was
- 31:17
pulling the move he'd be dealing with it
- 31:19
all he got to read books blurred degrees
- 31:21
fight that he got to fight everything
- 31:22
and i'd be home laughing saying yo
- 31:25
kind of ben went to bed
- 31:27
i don't want to sleep
- 31:30
hey y'all got it
- 31:32
but when you're innocent and when you
- 31:34
win it's like
- 31:35
all right now you're like gotta be able
- 31:37
to prove it and it ain't true that
- 31:40
you're gonna be so frustrated how slow
- 31:41
everything must move
- 31:44
and even in that case when you're
- 31:45
innocent like going back to the for life
- 31:46
[ __ ] every time he found something that
- 31:49
might help him
- 31:50
they jumped out to pull it away from
- 31:52
purposely monday after six months of
- 31:54
waiting to even present it properly or
- 31:57
whatever you don't say sorry you can't
- 31:58
present that now oh we ruled that out to
- 32:00
my next question why does this take 25
- 32:02
years
- 32:03
23 years it was like it was like just
- 32:05
like y'all just said everything i put in
- 32:07
the court they shot it down
- 32:09
and it was holding evidence and it was
- 32:10
destroying evidence and
- 32:13
it's like i had to really like push
- 32:14
their hand like you know and i've been
- 32:16
trying it for a long time what helped me
- 32:18
was that
- 32:19
as i was incarcerated like the the the
- 32:22
law started changing you know what i
- 32:24
mean okay and then brother started
- 32:26
getting out maybe like in 2003 they had
- 32:29
a case called martin tanklef
- 32:31
you know he got out he kind of opened
- 32:33
the door
- 32:34
he was accused of killing his family in
- 32:35
long island so
- 32:37
you know me i studied the law i learned
- 32:38
the law i said man i get the [ __ ] out of
- 32:40
here
- 32:41
my all-day job yeah so when i started
- 32:44
reading then they and then the state
- 32:45
started recognizing that yes people are
- 32:47
innocent because now the office chain's
- 32:49
over it's not the same da's and
- 32:51
prosecutors in there no more you know
- 32:53
now you're talking about
- 32:57
wait a minute
- 32:58
what the [ __ ] is going on so they
- 33:00
started doing wrongful conviction units
- 33:02
in all the boroughs i was just about to
- 33:04
say all the different wrongful
- 33:05
conviction units all the different
- 33:07
third-party programs yes it's
- 33:11
yeah so people because nobody want see
- 33:13
for murder like we like looked upon like
- 33:14
when you when you're a convicted
- 33:16
murderer nobody wants no part of that
- 33:18
because that's like one of the worst one
- 33:19
of the worst crimes
- 33:21
you know when you got these rape or
- 33:22
[ __ ] they'll rape all day and
- 33:24
they'll go in and out the system you
- 33:25
know they're so lenient and all those
- 33:27
type of people they let them rape little
- 33:28
kids and and then they let them out
- 33:31
you know they don't even get no time
- 33:33
hell yeah so now i mean they might have
- 33:34
tightened up the law now late lately you
- 33:37
know you know but i don't want to get
- 33:39
off track with that but um like so when
- 33:41
you're dealing with this system and it's
- 33:43
like you got to fight like i get calls
- 33:45
from first name like you're on yo
- 33:47
i said yo i was in there with a lot of
- 33:49
y'all y'all don't got this you got to
- 33:51
have that warrior spirit like because
- 33:53
they'll make it comfortable they'll get
- 33:54
you can get married and get a trailer in
- 33:56
new york state
- 33:57
it's rough it's a rough prison a weekend
- 33:59
you get a whole weekend yeah they lock
- 34:01
you in you can do it whatever you want
- 34:02
to have fun
- 34:04
and they'll put you in tv but it's drama
- 34:06
so they'll make it it's not like if
- 34:07
you're in a third world country jail
- 34:08
where you ain't eating
- 34:10
you know what i'm saying everybody's
- 34:11
just standing around you [ __ ] and
- 34:12
pissing in the dirt or whatever new york
- 34:14
stay to make it kind of comfortable for
- 34:16
you you follow what i'm saying
- 34:18
and now i [ __ ] all that comfortability i
- 34:20
went out and that was always my fight
- 34:22
and my struggle nothing else mattered i
- 34:25
wasn't the ones getting on the phone
- 34:26
crying yo they did this nah i was one on
- 34:29
the phone yo shaheen yo ghost listen man
- 34:32
yo go do you know saying boom boom boom
- 34:33
boom boom and i never gave up and
- 34:36
sometimes i felt like my family and
- 34:37
everybody was getting oh man you've been
- 34:38
doing that and therefore you know your
- 34:40
mom yeah i said i'm never letting this
- 34:41
go
- 34:42
that take a lot of what i'm saying that
- 34:44
take a lot of um strength right there
- 34:46
alone because i
- 34:48
me myself and i'm pretty sure a lot of
- 34:49
other people
- 34:51
i know i didn't do it but once they come
- 34:53
down with that time
- 34:55
after a certain point it's like a new
- 34:57
reality yeah it's like damn i'm really
- 34:59
i'm gonna just wrap my head around it
- 35:00
yeah like you know i'm gonna have to do
- 35:02
this and a lot of people would give up
- 35:05
mm-hmm that's a fact a lot of people do
- 35:07
i think yeah yeah yeah these [ __ ] are
- 35:09
stronger than me yeah no that's a
- 35:10
different type so you lived in the
- 35:12
library you lived in the lobby yeah i
- 35:14
stayed i stayed you know i'm a barber
- 35:15
too that's why you always see my [ __ ]
- 35:17
you know
- 35:20
ghost is just time to say every time i
- 35:22
call you cutting your hair i say yo man
- 35:24
this is what i do no
- 35:25
no no i see a fresh tape brush little
- 35:27
paper
- 35:30
but now you know mainly i spend my time
- 35:32
in law library you know
- 35:34
got into a whole lot of [ __ ] in prison
- 35:35
in the beginning but it was like yo was
- 35:37
it difficult getting access to that
- 35:39
stuff did they try to stop you from
- 35:40
getting access to stuff no i mean they
- 35:42
would have you in the box but in
- 35:43
population you could you know you could
- 35:45
sign it depends on what jail you went to
- 35:47
like clinton they tried to discourage
- 35:49
you got you i don't know if y'all heard
- 35:50
the clinton down yeah i discovered you
- 35:52
you know they want some real
- 35:54
kkk [ __ ] up there like no talking if i
- 35:57
[ __ ] can't talk how the [ __ ] he gonna
- 35:59
show me how this go you know what i'm
- 36:01
saying no talking williams yeah whatever
- 36:03
you don't say i'm saying i don't want
- 36:04
you to talk and you don't know [ __ ] so
- 36:06
you read in the book that you don't even
- 36:07
understand the language
- 36:09
you see what i'm saying you know even
- 36:11
though they give you access they don't
- 36:13
right you see what i'm saying yeah we're
- 36:14
gonna let you win but you figured out on
- 36:15
your own and that's you know you gotta
- 36:17
yeah you're like that's like one hand
- 36:19
behind your back yeah yeah yeah put
- 36:20
putting the blindfold on [ __ ] push you
- 36:23
in
- 36:24
how many different prisons were you in
- 36:26
throughout
- 36:27
the entire year a lot of them i i the
- 36:29
president you know you could never be
- 36:31
comfortable in prison because
- 36:33
you know you could be laying up and
- 36:35
that's the next day they were like yo
- 36:36
williams pack up you want to draft right
- 36:38
where the [ __ ] i'm going oh i don't know
- 36:40
yet i'm no listen see yo yo tell me
- 36:42
where i'm going now everybody's afraid
- 36:44
of the unknown yeah you know what i'm
- 36:46
saying it's not the point of [ __ ] no
- 36:48
it's just when you don't know what's
- 36:49
gonna happen you're always gonna
- 36:50
naturally go and get butterflies if
- 36:51
you're going into a ring to fight or you
- 36:53
get into a fight in the yard or whatever
- 36:55
naturally you're going to fail
- 36:57
you know you know
- 37:00
we're just going to take you out of your
- 37:01
house and we're going to push you
- 37:02
somewhere else so now you go down there
- 37:04
they shackle you up and i'm on the bus
- 37:06
for eight hours and you're further away
- 37:08
from your family being able to come and
- 37:09
visit the family so i try to stay in the
- 37:11
gym mental [ __ ] crazy yeah that's all
- 37:13
that's awesome that's a mental torture
- 37:14
my [ __ ] now your mom's your mom's might
- 37:17
be older you know what i'm saying your
- 37:19
baby mom somebody got a job two jobs
- 37:21
whatever the case may be they can't
- 37:23
travel nine hours to see you and a lot
- 37:25
of them shit's his way up they can't
- 37:28
just you know
- 37:28
by design
- 37:30
right prison is what i realize
- 37:32
it's the sign of breaking
- 37:34
you feel saying take your self-esteem
- 37:36
you see what i'm saying it'll make you
- 37:38
just like just like you said want to go
- 37:40
to sleep right and and it was you know
- 37:42
people say what's going on so you know i
- 37:45
you know i was a guy that was i'm you
- 37:48
know i'm not just having anything you
- 37:49
see what i'm saying i kept myself strong
- 37:51
like yo so
- 37:52
it was like when people remind you of
- 37:54
who you are when you call home and you
- 37:56
see people that know you from the
- 37:57
streets you get like yeah on that
- 37:59
[ __ ] you know what i'm saying
- 38:00
that's not going out so it gives you
- 38:02
more strength you feel what i'm saying
- 38:04
sure it makes you say yo nah nah then i
- 38:06
taught the ghost of my family and he'd
- 38:07
be like yo when you get out yo doing
- 38:09
this you know what i'm saying always
- 38:10
supportive financially whatever they
- 38:12
could do lawyers or you know that's a
- 38:14
whole different story you know so
- 38:16
it just depends on you
- 38:18
and what you're going to do you know and
- 38:21
it's hard i mean all your support system
- 38:23
like you said imagine if you ain't had
- 38:25
him right yeah every mother can't afford
- 38:27
lawyer fees
- 38:29
every mother can't afford to keep
- 38:30
appealing every mother can't afford to
- 38:31
even put [ __ ] money on your books
- 38:34
right yeah but yeah that's what i'm
- 38:35
sitting here thinking about like
- 38:37
yeah he had people that would have gone
- 38:39
to the end of the earth to get it done
- 38:41
and it still didn't matter still didn't
- 38:43
matter
- 38:44
all that money to that trial lawyer
- 38:46
right go still ain't matter didn't
- 38:47
matter
- 38:49
that didn't matter when they want you
- 38:50
they want you they're gonna get you
- 38:51
you're done yeah that's it like you said
- 38:54
they was done a minute he was getting a
- 38:55
minute they put the cops on while i was
- 38:56
like this is our guy i don't care about
- 38:58
nothing else i don't care what you can
- 38:59
prove don't matter so you did all your
- 39:01
time well you gave something back
- 39:03
no what happened was i had um
- 39:06
i had caught a jail case okay you know
- 39:08
what i'm saying
- 39:09
so when that happened was they
- 39:11
they they put me for
- 39:13
27 years to go to the parole board but
- 39:15
then i want to beaten it so pushing it a
- 39:17
little earlier to go to the parole board
- 39:20
you see okay so technically when i went
- 39:22
to the parole board they got me down as
- 39:24
25 to life but being i gave time back
- 39:26
they want only count in the state time
- 39:28
got it you follow what i'm saying so
- 39:30
but i don't argue about the time you
- 39:32
know
- 39:33
about that
- 39:40
all right whatever
- 39:41
that's crazy but you know it's it's just
- 39:44
a it's just a sad reality you know i
- 39:46
mean i try to you know have to have like
- 39:48
a sense of humor with it because i don't
- 39:50
want to be up here too emotionally
- 39:51
because then we all going to be
- 39:52
emotional you know what i mean now you
- 39:54
and you are in you appear to be in
- 39:56
amazing spirits
- 39:58
you got an amazing story i keep trying
- 40:00
to stop myself from crying while you're
- 40:02
talking
- 40:06
yo so what with regards to your case you
- 40:08
can't talk too much about your case
- 40:10
right
- 40:11
but
- 40:12
you feel confident
- 40:14
that
- 40:15
you're gonna get some it ain't no
- 40:16
justice there it is again my [ __ ] if
- 40:18
they take 25 years from your life i
- 40:20
don't give a [ __ ] if they give you 25
- 40:22
million dollars i don't care [ __ ] it
- 40:24
don't matter you took 25 years of my
- 40:26
life i had kids that was babies no you
- 40:28
you grew up at 20. yeah yeah
- 40:31
that was basically
- 40:32
coming no i'm just saying yo
- 40:35
how do you know i'm 50 right now [ __ ]
- 40:38
looks great
- 40:40
i was sitting there doing man yeah i was
- 40:42
thinking about it
- 40:44
did the whole 25 fam like yo you 50
- 40:46
right you're 50. even if the mixers give
- 40:48
you 25 million dollars dog you don't
- 40:50
have no experiences with your kids you
- 40:52
can't never get that back all right
- 40:55
people in your life done passed away you
- 40:57
can't never see them you can't never
- 40:58
hold them you can't never hug them again
- 41:00
all of that [ __ ] like one of my next
- 41:02
questions like
- 41:03
you're
- 41:04
you're
- 41:05
mental fortitude
- 41:07
is out of this world for real
- 41:10
but what was one of the more
- 41:13
what was the what were some of the more
- 41:15
difficult days
- 41:16
in there i know for me with the people i
- 41:19
noted went up
- 41:20
yeah that's all tough
- 41:22
got it christmases and [ __ ] like that
- 41:24
yeah
- 41:25
like my dad when he was in jail he
- 41:27
couldn't go to his mom's funeral
- 41:28
couldn't go to my grandma's funeral oh
- 41:30
like today that still
- 41:31
is there for him like yeah i lost the
- 41:33
time it was [ __ ] up but i wasn't there
- 41:35
for that
- 41:36
that hurts i know like some of those
- 41:39
like you said just missing the important
- 41:42
dates like yeah you got to deal with
- 41:44
what you got to deal with but
- 41:46
well you know the most difficult day was
- 41:48
not being there with my kids as they was
- 41:49
getting older you know that would that
- 41:52
was every day like i would see them it's
- 41:54
the birthday and i'm like damn it's my
- 41:56
[ __ ] tall you know
- 41:58
so you're going through all of that
- 42:00
right
- 42:02
and as you're balancing that
- 42:05
you come home
- 42:07
to
- 42:07
[Music]
- 42:09
the stock market going crazy phones you
- 42:11
can look at each other you can look at
- 42:13
each other on the
- 42:14
phone [ __ ] walking around with
- 42:16
walkmans
- 42:18
i was gonna ask a question were you
- 42:19
while you were incarcerated so did jpay
- 42:21
still exist did it exist yet because
- 42:23
that's jp it's an app that you can
- 42:25
communicate and send money to people
- 42:27
that are incarcerated at least in new
- 42:28
york state yeah yeah i have some friends
- 42:30
that are incredible i recently found out
- 42:31
about that's all that's all new that's
- 42:33
that's fly to me you know what it says
- 42:35
fly but you know what was you know crazy
- 42:37
like i never seen a cell phone
- 42:40
like you shot his cell phone just i used
- 42:41
to look at a magazine and say yo how the
- 42:44
[ __ ] how do they talk on these people
- 42:51
now it's the jetsons [ __ ] we got
- 42:52
facetime that's just what i used to say
- 42:54
dudes
- 42:56
i said listen man i waited a long time
- 42:58
for the george jackson ever
- 43:10
so
- 43:10
that's the worst feeling though when you
- 43:13
living in the world that you're part of
- 43:14
but you're not yeah cars look funny
- 43:21
no
- 43:23
more style you know it's all good man
- 43:27
but what but i want to hear about what
- 43:29
the
- 43:30
reacclimation process oh
- 43:32
yeah so you know when i finally get like
- 43:35
ghosts he was like man listen man you
- 43:37
know i'm trying to learn i said he said
- 43:39
how the hell you know more than me
- 43:44
i said you know what i did i get on
- 43:46
youtube and watch that [ __ ] yo how you
- 43:48
work this how you work
- 43:50
you ain't got nothing but time to learn
- 43:51
we figured ghosts didn't quite learn all
- 43:53
the little iphone tricks
- 43:56
you know what now he learned it you know
- 43:58
that we all say but you know
- 44:00
i just was just i'm always determined to
- 44:02
learn new things you see what i'm saying
- 44:04
yeah like i never want to feel like i'm
- 44:05
left in the dust so yo how did the world
- 44:08
how did the world outside of your family
- 44:11
outside of your friends outside of your
- 44:13
foundation how did the world accept you
- 44:15
with regards to good question um jobs
- 44:18
with regards to you know just society
- 44:20
adapting to society or them adapting to
- 44:22
you
- 44:23
okay um good question everybody that
- 44:25
that know me
- 44:27
knew of my situation outside of them
- 44:28
that's what i'm saying outside of you
- 44:30
your foundation outside of the ghost
- 44:32
the world just step out and these white
- 44:35
people looking at you like you're a
- 44:37
felon or the new young [ __ ] yeah like
- 44:39
anybody that's the fact that it's
- 44:41
definitely different but for me um you
- 44:43
know i always work with ghost so i was
- 44:45
fortunate in that sense
- 44:47
i didn't have to sit in front and fill
- 44:48
out a job application and say yo
- 44:51
that's a blessing
- 44:54
i said that right here
- 44:56
i'm saying so so that's never my problem
- 44:59
right there but i think that i would
- 45:01
have articulated myself very uniquely in
- 45:03
front of them anyway well i would have
- 45:05
got a chance because i'm determined but
- 45:07
that's never my issue right but as far
- 45:09
as the way people view me and look at me
- 45:11
when they i i know females when they
- 45:13
first see me like
- 45:14
[ __ ] i know you did that like they just
- 45:16
stereotyped me off top i'm like yo until
- 45:18
they speak to me and they get to see
- 45:20
like oh this is a nice dude you know you
- 45:22
feel a light skinnedness yeah yeah yeah
- 45:24
man you feel a light skin yeah i'm with
- 45:26
you
- 45:27
you feel like i could hurt look dog i
- 45:29
would've got up in corporate america
- 45:33
tell me the girl that looked at you and
- 45:34
said no you did it you committed the
- 45:36
murder
- 45:38
none of them no i'm talking about the
- 45:40
other part i'm talking about that yo you
- 45:42
know i
- 45:43
articulated okay
- 45:47
but even as he said like i'm joking with
- 45:49
you but as he said i'm looking at him
- 45:52
you ain't doing it
- 45:53
i don't feel like that right
- 45:56
look at this [ __ ] taper these shades
- 45:58
these
- 46:03
well how'd you look when you first came
- 46:04
out
- 46:05
i was probably you know a little more
- 46:06
bigger but it's just you know what you
- 46:08
know it is when we come out of prison
- 46:10
like i see dudes that come on i be
- 46:12
looking i said damn i had that same look
- 46:14
you could just look in their eyes and
- 46:16
you could look at the structure and it's
- 46:17
just different yeah you could tell that
- 46:19
they had but they like that's like i'm
- 46:21
always wrong like i can't like i'm proud
- 46:23
of you okay
- 46:23
yeah yeah yeah yeah so i went through
- 46:25
[ __ ] so it's always like
- 46:27
like ghost he's like yo come on stage
- 46:29
i stood there for a little time
- 46:35
i'm out no
- 46:36
you do ice cream without me
- 46:39
i was like nah y'all
- 46:46
and half of them i don't even know who
- 46:48
the [ __ ] they are because everybody i
- 46:50
ain't changing
- 46:52
they're happy to see you not just that
- 46:53
you was 25 [ __ ] might have been 12
- 46:55
looking up to you yeah yeah yeah and i'm
- 46:57
sorry i remember you even if you don't
- 46:59
know him uh yeah the story true yeah has
- 47:02
grown [ __ ] if you got love for either
- 47:04
of these [ __ ] then that has
- 47:06
a million reasons why that could have
- 47:08
came about
- 47:09
but that's hard though yeah some hearts
- 47:12
yo listen i came out here i tell
- 47:14
everybody like y'all i say it's easy out
- 47:16
here it's hard in there
- 47:18
no no no i'm saying
- 47:19
i'm saying for me
- 47:20
i'm saying for me it's easy i'm saying
- 47:23
for me because now i have the power to
- 47:25
do what i want to do right you feel what
- 47:27
i'm saying you don't want to have that
- 47:29
you don't have that
- 47:30
everything is whatever you need a
- 47:32
package you need soap to wash your ass
- 47:33
you got to get on the phone and call
- 47:34
home yo can you send me money
- 47:36
in order to buy that soap you feel it
- 47:38
it's a business so it's different yeah
- 47:40
so i always that's why i said prison
- 47:42
kills your self-esteem
- 47:44
that's what i think it's always been
- 47:45
shocking to me about when my homies went
- 47:47
in and came back and told me stories is
- 47:49
like capitalism is still very prevalent
- 47:51
in there the same way it is out here dog
- 47:53
you know i'm saying the people that got
- 47:54
money in there are much better off than
- 47:56
the people don't have [ __ ] in new jersey
- 47:58
right yeah the governor the old governor
- 48:00
christy whitman yeah
- 48:02
her husband
- 48:04
was the the [ __ ] that you buy all the
- 48:06
clothes from in canteen
- 48:08
it was his company
- 48:10
the governor of the state of new jersey
- 48:12
because you can't wear your own [ __ ] no
- 48:14
more mm-hmm right so when you buy the
- 48:16
the the walmart nikes the coal nikes and
- 48:19
[ __ ] you're buying them from the
- 48:21
governor's husband a little markup
- 48:25
think about that my [ __ ] and they
- 48:26
selling they selling the coal nikes that
- 48:28
you could buy for 45
- 48:30
for 140 150
- 48:33
the gray sweats with their no pockets
- 48:36
them they selling them for 35 and 40
- 48:38
dollars the hamstrings that cost you
- 48:40
nine beans and that's the governor's
- 48:42
husband that's the governor of the
- 48:44
state's husband getting grant money and
- 48:47
stake money to do that
- 48:49
i don't want to be like these be the
- 48:50
billionaire [ __ ] behind closed doors
- 48:53
doing all the legislation to send more
- 48:54
[ __ ] to jail because i eat more yeah
- 48:56
100
- 48:58
100 that's the system right there i
- 49:00
don't want to be that guy there's an
- 49:01
incentive to keep sending
- 49:03
when your cape when a case like yours
- 49:05
come across no but he's guilty
- 49:08
and send them out for the long haul
- 49:09
because there's an incentive there
- 49:10
there's money i make more money bill we
- 49:12
need another jail we gotta pack this
- 49:14
want to show a need for another one
- 49:17
think about that dawg it's a fact that's
- 49:18
sick we can't ask for another jail
- 49:20
unless this one is over the jail has to
- 49:22
be at a certain capacity correct there's
- 49:25
there's an actual contract no we we
- 49:27
better make this one overcrowded on
- 49:29
purpose because we just bought a lot of
- 49:30
land over here right so we got a show we
- 49:32
got to show that we got a need for a new
- 49:34
prison if this one only hold 2500
- 49:37
[ __ ] we got to have 2 700 and
- 49:39
had them sleep under the cops in the
- 49:40
lobby so that now we could go before the
- 49:42
board and get a new prison
- 49:44
that's crazy son that's just how that
- 49:46
work
- 49:48
that's insane that's just big business
- 49:51
you know i the biggest business i keep
- 49:53
trying to like because i'm imagining i'm
- 49:55
imagining grant's story and i keep
- 49:58
trying to ask all these different
- 50:00
questions
- 50:02
and the thing that is consistent for me
- 50:04
that i hear and i see in you
- 50:06
is
- 50:09
no matter all the hardship i bring up
- 50:11
there's no deterrence yeah yeah yeah
- 50:12
yeah
- 50:13
yeah you just said you don't hear that
- 50:15
strong type of yeah i keep saying all
- 50:17
right well what about when the judge
- 50:18
first hit it all right what about when
- 50:19
they brought the jury in all right what
- 50:20
about your lawyer because like you're
- 50:21
saying what about the first meeting the
- 50:22
first week there all right listen what
- 50:23
about when you didn't see your kids
- 50:24
sammy said all right
- 50:26
you said you cried once i can't
- 50:28
keep throwing i've cried 90 times
- 50:32
asking him questions and he keeps saying
- 50:34
nah nah nigga's cool now i worked it out
- 50:37
got to be strong
- 50:42
listen i got a lot of pain in me right
- 50:44
but you know what like this is one thing
- 50:46
i realized about people like i didn't
- 50:47
know i didn't really i don't know no
- 50:49
other way to be
- 50:50
i was i was never really too much of a
- 50:53
really emotional type of guy from the
- 50:55
start
- 50:56
you follow what i'm saying so it's like
- 50:58
even when brothers call me they'd be
- 51:00
like yo one thing about you you was
- 51:01
never down
- 51:03
you just like you knew this [ __ ] that's
- 51:04
the most impressive thing i'm saying
- 51:06
listen i woke up the next day after i
- 51:08
went to the you know i had the press
- 51:09
conference in front of the court and
- 51:11
everything
- 51:12
and you know what was the best feeling
- 51:13
in the world i felt free i looked at the
- 51:15
daily news and seen me and my son
- 51:18
front page
- 51:19
you know what i'm saying it was like oh
- 51:21
that was good for me you know and then
- 51:23
my lawyer called me
- 51:24
and he said listen williams you know
- 51:26
i had a lot of cases you know this case
- 51:29
here is the highlight and he says
- 51:31
because of you you're very inspirational
- 51:34
you know what i'm saying
- 51:38
how did you eventually get free
- 51:40
it was uh well they had me go to the
- 51:43
parole boy and then the d.a and then
- 51:44
wrote to the boy yo we opened up this
- 51:46
case and then they let me out cause i
- 51:48
went before and they said nah two years
- 51:50
they said come back before it's in two
- 51:52
years i'm sure you must have worked a
- 51:53
couple times all right you must have won
- 51:54
a couple times now yeah i went there and
- 51:56
then i went in 90 days and then i went
- 51:58
the two years
- 52:00
and it was like nah so i'm in the parole
- 52:01
board because they want you to show
- 52:02
remorse yeah yeah for the for like the
- 52:05
crime this is a
- 52:06
whole different thing here so i'm like
- 52:08
i'm not because that's public
- 52:10
information how do you show her more are
- 52:11
you sure
- 52:13
hey look here you see what i'm telling
- 52:14
you the same thing i was telling them
- 52:17
i didn't do it i said i presented the
- 52:19
evidence i had that was actually inside
- 52:21
the courts
- 52:22
and i said i pushed it because you got
- 52:24
to give it to them early so they can
- 52:25
read it and they was just sitting there
- 52:26
looking at me like and they said you
- 52:28
didn't do it i'm like no i didn't do it
- 52:30
you know they said so why you seem so
- 52:32
much in good spirits like you know why
- 52:35
why are you making better i still can't
- 52:37
understand personally i said because i
- 52:38
have faith [ __ ] follow what i'm
- 52:40
saying and i believe the truth is going
- 52:42
to come
- 52:43
and they said you're an amazing person
- 52:45
like yeah
- 52:48
bam i'd have been i'd have been broke
- 52:49
already
- 52:50
i said yo i didn't do it and they looked
- 52:52
at the evidence in front of them and
- 52:53
they was flabbergasting me and they were
- 52:54
shocked like oh snap
- 52:56
like this is real we should have looked
- 52:58
at this 20 years ago
- 52:59
yeah
- 53:00
you got to feel on a parole board like
- 53:02
yo i work for some animals
- 53:05
like this is some [ __ ] i'm a part of
- 53:07
this
- 53:08
you know what i'm saying you like i'm a
- 53:09
part of this i'm a part of keeping a
- 53:11
man's freedom away from him and his
- 53:12
family now his two kids the god of
- 53:14
records day in the system god knows what
- 53:17
they don't been through and what they
- 53:18
wouldn't have went through had he been
- 53:19
home you asking for people to help you
- 53:21
feel like that if nine out of ten of the
- 53:23
[ __ ] i come across is guilty
- 53:26
still gotta
- 53:40
don't believe
- 53:46
it was a black lady on the first one
- 53:48
i had this one of the worst
- 53:50
commissioners they got commissioned but
- 53:51
they called commissions and actually
- 53:52
sent three of them and i had the worst
- 53:55
one he was a cop he was an ex-cop he was
- 53:56
talking to me like wait a minute like
- 53:58
you mean tell me you ain't shoot this
- 53:59
dude you ain't murderers dude you shot
- 54:01
him five times now i'm listening to them
- 54:04
tell us a story about somebody else you
- 54:06
ain't even know you know it's not you
- 54:07
yeah yeah so i said listen
- 54:09
and i convinced him like it wasn't me he
- 54:11
said listen if you get a letter from the
- 54:13
da's office in 90 days we'll reconsider
- 54:16
your release
- 54:18
i got the letter from the da's office
- 54:19
they said yes
- 54:21
i went back to the parole board totally
- 54:23
different people black lady
- 54:25
terrible i said you know i got the
- 54:27
reconsideration she said listen listen
- 54:30
williams i don't want to hear none of
- 54:32
that you convicted right now that's
- 54:34
court information
- 54:36
do you want to proceed with this
- 54:37
proceeding back in the journey wow i
- 54:39
said yeah go ahead let's let's proceed i
- 54:41
really knew she's going with two years
- 54:42
wow she said okay well um you caught
- 54:45
this game
- 54:46
i said well i did college i got my
- 54:47
degrees i explained everything so
- 54:49
because you know i was you know
- 54:50
educating myself we went to college
- 54:52
while he was locked up
- 54:53
i was just about to say your family yeah
- 54:55
i'm gonna keep it above with you you're
- 54:56
way more well spoken that [ __ ] have
- 54:58
been out here for 40 years yo yeah
- 55:01
no [ __ ] so i so i expressed that to
- 55:03
them and
- 55:05
she said okay good luck
- 55:07
yeah good [ __ ] i already know what
- 55:08
time you want to two years i'm saying to
- 55:10
them to them saying that two years is is
- 55:13
ten minutes time man to them ten minutes
- 55:15
that's what i'm saying to them two years
- 55:17
before you can come back and it might
- 55:18
not be me sitting here i might be a
- 55:20
vacation no it's definitely not her
- 55:21
sitting there no more it's different
- 55:22
commissioners
- 55:24
that's that that's what would really
- 55:25
frustrate me like you figure over the
- 55:27
course of 25 years i'm looking to see
- 55:29
someone with some familiarity to my case
- 55:32
somebody that maybe seen me sad last
- 55:34
time
- 55:35
like ma'am even if you do joe
- 55:38
they see so many people you're a number
- 55:41
yeah that's right you're not a case to
- 55:43
them you're not a there's no personal
- 55:44
attachment no matter how you felt okay
- 55:47
your number whatever whatever yeah yeah
- 55:49
okay here's the facts all right next sam
- 55:51
your case might have got on a dust that
- 55:52
morning at a glance do it like oh yeah
- 55:54
absolutely right so tell me about um
- 55:58
so tell me about your last day
- 56:00
what am i
- 56:14
[ __ ] like yo
- 56:15
i was up
- 56:16
check it out they had 20 years of
- 56:17
property
- 56:18
hey these pants are yours
- 56:22
you're not gonna bring these hey yo the
- 56:23
only [ __ ] was i was in the maxis for
- 56:25
like decades
- 56:27
so i never went to a medium so they was
- 56:28
like man they're gonna put you in the
- 56:30
media even though now listen i want
- 56:31
y'all to picture this right
- 56:33
you got this bottle right you know and
- 56:35
it's a warm shot shot you know i ain't
- 56:38
going nobody it's a wall around you so
- 56:40
you don't see the cars you don't see
- 56:42
[ __ ] all when you look up you see is
- 56:44
that [ __ ] wall excuse my language
- 56:46
y'all [ __ ]
- 56:47
but you see that wall right picture
- 56:49
being like that for danny two and a half
- 56:51
decades
- 56:53
you see what i'm saying you don't see
- 56:54
nothing so now they take me out of that
- 56:56
environment where it's hostile and then
- 56:58
they put and then they drop my
- 56:59
classification and they put me in a
- 57:02
medium now immediately this medium like
- 57:04
they got a fish that you can see the sun
- 57:06
yeah so i'm [ __ ] up so now
- 57:10
i come y'all
- 57:12
so i go in the reception part of me i'm
- 57:14
gonna do it's like you're on what up i'm
- 57:16
just ignoring them all right what up so
- 57:18
now i got my bag i'm looking at the cos
- 57:20
look good night no more i'm looking at
- 57:21
black
- 57:24
you know i'm like oh cause i went to a
- 57:26
hood yeah
- 57:28
right
- 57:28
skill so i'm like oh they got black
- 57:30
shields and she's looking nice right so
- 57:32
you know i'm not going to talk because
- 57:34
you know they be on some [ __ ] no so
- 57:35
i'm just looking right
- 57:36
then this song came on i just seen
- 57:38
freedom that boot up song by lma hey
- 57:42
hey hey
- 57:44
let me see
- 57:45
if i got it for you i just was just like
- 57:46
yo that [ __ ] i was like yo i'm going
- 57:48
home yo that's funny oh you put that on
- 57:50
we're gonna be dancing
- 58:04
oh
- 58:08
yo that is so funny this being your
- 58:10
release record that [ __ ] always
- 58:12
different and then i've seen then i
- 58:13
heard that song
- 58:14
and then it was like i was working off
- 58:16
the complex people was walking
- 58:17
[Music]
- 58:19
out of here so you know what i'm saying
- 58:32
check it out so on my last day right you
- 58:34
can't run up and down the complex let's
- 58:36
say we all yo yo what you gonna do when
- 58:38
you get out i said watch what the [ __ ] i
- 58:40
do i'm gonna run down that damn
- 58:42
confidence [ __ ]
- 58:46
[ __ ] i said watch they call me
- 58:48
time for me to go yes yo what's up i've
- 58:50
been waiting here it's eight in the
- 58:52
morning i'm like yo what's going on i
- 58:53
want to leave you know
- 58:55
he said williams you're gonna go when
- 58:56
they call walkways and programs when
- 58:57
everybody go right i said yeah i carried
- 59:00
that [ __ ] legal work i had and i ran
- 59:03
down to come
- 59:04
to walk with like a mouth they would say
- 59:06
[ __ ] stop running no no no no no no
- 59:10
no
- 59:11
i ran they said they [ __ ] we're gonna
- 59:13
lock you up yeah right and i ran
- 59:16
everybody was in the windows laughing
- 59:18
like yo and that was the end of that wow
- 59:21
nah we got to turn boot up up now
- 59:25
[Music]
- 59:31
it's so appropriate to me that this was
- 59:32
the song
- 59:35
this [ __ ] sounds like hope is at the end
- 59:37
of the tunnel
- 59:39
you know i do yo that's amazing man that
- 59:43
is amazing no that's nice even doper
- 59:45
that you came home to
- 59:47
a job yeah some family you know what i'm
- 59:50
saying like again i'm sure even when you
- 59:52
was locked up
- 59:54
again i don't really be big on the hope
- 59:56
[ __ ] but when you was locked up the fact
- 59:58
that you know your people's out here
- 1:00:00
moving and shaking
- 1:00:01
and you gonna come home to something
- 1:00:03
like they ain't [ __ ] [ __ ] they here
- 1:00:05
they not [ __ ] [ __ ] yeah they're here
- 1:00:06
with you today and your people they
- 1:00:08
forget you you know what i'm saying like
- 1:00:10
your people's right there and not for
- 1:00:11
nothing i'll be counting no other man
- 1:00:13
pockets but i'm sure they they are
- 1:00:15
yeah i'm sure they uh
- 1:00:18
i'm sure he was looking at it
- 1:00:19
[Music]
- 1:00:21
i'm saying that uh you know some [ __ ]
- 1:00:23
don't even come home to that for real no
- 1:00:25
for real some people come home to just
- 1:00:27
them that's what i'm saying everybody
- 1:00:28
forgot oh please man this [ __ ] came
- 1:00:31
home the wu-tang docks yeah churchill
- 1:00:34
golfing
- 1:00:35
he came home he came home and mad [ __ ]
- 1:00:38
he had catching up to do when he came
- 1:00:41
again that's a blessing and i'm sure you
- 1:00:43
can't wait like you talking to ghosts
- 1:00:45
let's say you talk to ghosts once every
- 1:00:47
six months [ __ ] it right
- 1:00:49
to keep you alive
- 1:00:51
i don't know if y'all did this because
- 1:00:53
this might be even more depressing but
- 1:00:55
yo what you been doing how you doing i'm
- 1:00:57
good i just came from even that bro you
- 1:01:00
put your pictures on your walls like
- 1:01:02
this
- 1:01:04
i can't wait i can't wait like you like
- 1:01:06
i can't wait i can't wait that's the
- 1:01:07
inspiration in itself that's
- 1:01:17
that's it that's it you know what i'm
- 1:01:18
saying like that's an inspiration like
- 1:01:20
i'm gonna get y'all [ __ ] ain't gonna
- 1:01:21
kill me in here
- 1:01:23
i'm getting out getting this good box my
- 1:01:25
man traveling to every cushion
- 1:01:27
i was happy for him that's the other
- 1:01:28
[ __ ] though
- 1:01:30
i'm getting that other [ __ ] overseas
- 1:01:32
that part let's see listen to that even
- 1:01:34
but for me even that speaks to the the
- 1:01:36
no deterrence that i hear in you
- 1:01:39
it's all happiness yeah i was happy for
- 1:01:41
my voice
- 1:01:43
in a hole or in them walls
- 1:01:46
you might have had to deal with that
- 1:01:47
hate
- 1:01:48
that's true if it's there that's no i'm
- 1:01:51
sure not hate for your man of course
- 1:01:53
but no hey i ain't there
- 1:01:56
hate that this is happening without me
- 1:01:59
the for that even that for that to get
- 1:02:01
blocked out man yeah yeah this guy
- 1:02:04
you're different no
- 1:02:06
i was happy for all of them i was like
- 1:02:08
ah cause i was dead so i know you know
- 1:02:10
what i'm saying but no the fact that you
- 1:02:11
was there making it harder though you
- 1:02:13
hear me that was stressing me out like
- 1:02:15
watching the tv the wall they were like
- 1:02:16
i like it i'm not watching that [ __ ]
- 1:02:18
because i cuz i know that fell like nah
- 1:02:20
that [ __ ] stressed me out but when i see
- 1:02:22
the video i'm like yeah
- 1:02:23
you know what i'm saying
- 1:02:24
you're bragging and [ __ ] that's about
- 1:02:26
that yeah yeah yo you know brothers just
- 1:02:28
moving on and you would have said you
- 1:02:30
might have had a hard time in there if
- 1:02:32
like these [ __ ] was ass
- 1:02:34
like they was them [ __ ] so
- 1:02:37
they was them [ __ ] so everything was
- 1:02:39
cool
- 1:02:39
i'm never gonna have a hard time you
- 1:02:41
have to film
- 1:02:42
i'm amazing
- 1:02:53
so now
- 1:02:55
freedom we out actually no before i get
- 1:02:58
to that you mentioned around 0.102
- 1:03:01
laws started changing uh they started
- 1:03:03
coming up with different clicks and and
- 1:03:05
just non-profit people to help right
- 1:03:09
me as a daca guy huge doc guy
- 1:03:13
inside did you feel that play any part
- 1:03:16
and change in social climate like
- 1:03:19
like i talk a lot here about the world
- 1:03:21
becoming more sensitive like with these
- 1:03:23
kids and just things that they won't
- 1:03:24
accept anymore and these docs are coming
- 1:03:26
out about wrongful convictions in jail
- 1:03:28
did you feel the world change out there
- 1:03:31
with like what they were paying
- 1:03:32
attention to yes yes yes i did because
- 1:03:34
what happened is
- 1:03:36
you got violent crimes and you got
- 1:03:37
non-violent crimes right
- 1:03:39
and the non-violent crimes remember the
- 1:03:40
rockefeller lawsuit yeah
- 1:03:44
you know and i was around i think that
- 1:03:46
was around the time when i'm building
- 1:03:47
spelling when i was working so i've been
- 1:03:49
in there for a lot so when i seen that
- 1:03:51
we used to be like yo but how about for
- 1:03:52
the violent so then when i seen them
- 1:03:54
grabbing the violent bills and passing
- 1:03:56
them and i've seen people advocating for
- 1:03:58
people that's you know they got violent
- 1:04:00
crimes they got innocent they're not
- 1:04:02
seeing the whole world changing far
- 1:04:04
socially speaking about it recognizing
- 1:04:07
it and once you do that that's when
- 1:04:08
change is going to come about so yeah
- 1:04:10
i've seen that
- 1:04:11
your day
- 1:04:12
now
- 1:04:14
free
- 1:04:16
starts how like your first thought in
- 1:04:18
the mornings
- 1:04:20
for me
- 1:04:21
i used to be depressed so
- 1:04:23
every morning that i wake up i'd just be
- 1:04:25
happy to wake up
- 1:04:26
everybody up we got another one shut up
- 1:04:28
we back at it all right
- 1:04:30
yeah yeah yeah
- 1:04:32
i'm a happy man
- 1:04:34
is it strange at all is it did you ever
- 1:04:37
wake up
- 1:04:38
oh [ __ ]
- 1:04:43
like the other day i woke up
- 1:04:44
i was like oh [ __ ] i told say yo
- 1:04:47
i just had a dream i was backing i've
- 1:04:49
been having dreams but this time when i
- 1:04:51
was in there after i got exonerated on
- 1:04:52
tv it was like i was in there and it was
- 1:04:55
like yo i'm just got exonerated
- 1:04:56
everybody was happy because i always
- 1:04:58
left good energy in there you know what
- 1:05:00
i'm saying so they was like yo uncles
- 1:05:02
they because they called tell me this
- 1:05:03
all the time you're on your out but i
- 1:05:05
was dead it's like yo what you doing in
- 1:05:06
here i said now i'm just you know coming
- 1:05:08
to check i said i don't know what i'm
- 1:05:09
doing here you know i'm dreaming you
- 1:05:10
know what i'm saying but
- 1:05:12
it was never like i knew i was stuck in
- 1:05:14
there still like ever since i got
- 1:05:16
exonerated before that i'm like damn i'm
- 1:05:18
back in jail i'm in the yard i'm about
- 1:05:19
to go at it again you know it's always
- 1:05:21
to get up count whatever whatever you
- 1:05:23
know
- 1:05:24
and you know i guess i have them for the
- 1:05:26
rest of my life
- 1:05:27
that's the mental scars
- 1:05:29
physical scars hail up and all that [ __ ]
- 1:05:30
but the mental scars is the one that
- 1:05:32
could damage anybody whether you're
- 1:05:33
incarcerated whether you're free if
- 1:05:35
you're dealing with some type of mental
- 1:05:37
scars and you start dealing with
- 1:05:38
depression you got to find yourself you
- 1:05:40
got to dig in yourself and find what's
- 1:05:41
causing this to happen it's like i said
- 1:05:43
on tv right the problem is people deal
- 1:05:47
with the leaves they don't go to the
- 1:05:48
root you see i'm saying when you start
- 1:05:50
digging in the root of the channel
- 1:05:52
life would be more better than this
- 1:05:53
would be more understandable you know
- 1:05:55
it's deep
- 1:05:57
so
- 1:05:58
you don't have to answer this uh [ __ ] is
- 1:06:00
probably in the works
- 1:06:02
but
- 1:06:03
a doc
- 1:06:05
your phone i'm sure your phone is off
- 1:06:06
the hook for sure i'm sure people are
- 1:06:09
blowing you blowing it up
- 1:06:11

- 1:06:13

- 1:06:14

- 1:06:16

- 1:06:22

- 1:06:25

- 1:06:28
we're gonna put that out make sure that
- 1:06:29
message is felt now listen first of all
- 1:06:31
i appreciate that yeah no no thank you
- 1:06:33
real talk um
- 1:06:34

- 1:06:38
i'm i'm blown away i'm so blown away i
- 1:06:40
didn't even ask you half of the [ __ ]
- 1:06:41
that i want to ask because this this
- 1:06:43
story is just
- 1:06:45
it's crazy i can't i can't imagine i
- 1:06:48
can't imagine i can't picture it thank
- 1:06:49
god you're home i'm happy for you i'm
