2020 Year End Wrap Up
Joe Budden Podcast Episode 403.1, “2020 Year End Wrap Up,” released December 31, 2020. The end of 2020. Joe, Rory, Mal & Parks sit down to wrap up the social, political, music, and media events that defined the year. The guys take it back to losses that set an ominous tone before the pandemic, like the passing of legends Kobe Bryant and Pop Smoke. They share their personal lockdown realizations and commend the human resiliency and unison observed around the globe, especially during the BLM protests following the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many more. They recall the biggest moments that contributed to media this year such as Verzuz battles, Grammy debacles, Jada & Will’s entanglements, the Megan Thee Stallion & Tory Lanez fiasco, and much more. Definitively, they list their personal choices for Rap and R&B albums of the year, while Joe takes the time to acknowledge the myriad of “Good” albums that 2020 brought along as well. Furthermore, the JBP lists their top producers, best rookies, most improved, un-cancellable, and biggest disappointments of the year, including the acts they look forward to in 2021 (including Rory, himself). Finally, Joe shares his message to all entertainers that contributed their work this year. Full transcript and searchable timestamps below.

- 1:48
wrap-up my first time doing it with my brothers my friends my co-workers my peers and it has to be this way because
- 1:56
as a crew we have alienated ourselves from all of the other media people
- 2:02
i normally do this with charlemagne i don't know where the relationship stands
- 2:09
man i'm sure they got a talk coming for you at some point bdot elliot who else we got star
- 2:18
nori i was just with you hey shout out to star shout out to all of our peers ms jones
- 2:26
who have helped make this year an amazing year in artistic journalism uh documenting
- 2:33
the culture uh so forth and so on and with that said
- 2:39
yo man it was a real real tough tough active year in the tech world
- 2:45
right a lot of upcoming apps that were out there trying to solidify their spot did you
- 2:52
guys have a favorite app this year to really found a place in your heart i know it's tough it
- 2:57
might be a tough debate no it's totally used one app the entire year only use one app yeah yeah i mean i don't want to jump
- 3:04
the gun quick but for me it was just cash out yeah you too what a coincidence that's what you guys had on your list yeah it's the same one
- 3:10
same one that is green it goes best rapper yeah empowered by sponsored by enabled
- 3:18
by tolerated by giving mad passes by totally understood by
- 3:25
cash app uh that's important we appreciate you thank you and salute to the year that you all have had even and
- 3:32
and thank you thank you for the partnership forward thinking app okay so now that we have clearly
- 3:38
established cash app to be the number one app in the world and kind of like the biggest moment and the universe
- 3:46
cash out might have been the biggest moment there they gave us a lot of moments this year they funded the moments yeah they did
- 3:53
things and thank you yeah no
- 4:00
and with that said uh we got a lot a lot to get to now i want to start with
- 4:09
all of you people that contributed to putting music out this year you want i do want to
- 4:16
i do want to start there that's something you're better than us because i would have been terrified i
- 4:22
know i commend y'all yeah putting out music in 2020 y'all deserved just applause for that period yeah especially if
- 4:29
you're on like a label label either way because if you wasn't on a label you were going to survive off
- 4:34
touring true so i commend y'all every artist that puts something out
- 4:40
this year every artist is here every artist i'm clapping about
- 4:46
every artist we rely on touring too facts i'm still a little tight about our tour
- 4:52
being canceled i sat with my my account in december of 2019 with all the things i had lined up
- 4:58
for the year and my accountant went hey man you're probably gonna make more money than you've ever made in your entire
- 5:05
life this year if we're going by everything you have scheduled and boy did i call my mom and see
- 5:10
whatever you need right i did the same [ __ ] i did the same shopping for christmas last this time last year
- 5:16
shut it back whatever you need put it back
- 5:21
i was talking cash [ __ ] at christmas time last year like oh man 2020 is going to be crazy 2020 looked
- 5:26
nuts on the couch y'all were right 2020 was crazy it wasn't the right one wasn't the right crazy i rory is right
- 5:32
though i somehow got caught up in counting money that didn't come yet and i conned my accountant into doing it
- 5:39
with me like yeah it wasn't something my accountant was trying to like yeah
- 5:44
he we were just going through everything to plan out the 20 20 year and he was like this is you're going to make a lot of money this
- 5:49
year and my dumb ass who's never made a lot of money was like oh well let's run it up this is just one of the
- 5:55
lessons you got to learn the hard way learning off experience is the best way to to learn it really is like just failing with money but it
- 6:04
still hurt it still hurt i looked in my closet of all the expensive threads that have
- 6:09
not even touched my body but they're just sitting there for no tags on them just in case yeah i was
- 6:15
like oh 20 20 we doing like 20 dates i'm gonna wear this in in dallas at his late he had his life
- 6:21
months early right for the october show yeah yeah yeah
- 6:27
yeah that's that's what this year told me just just shut the [ __ ] up and wait to see what happens facts wait until she hits the account we
- 6:33
laughing and joking but the reality of it is and i do want to be serious sometimes today is that we had a seven
- 6:41
figure tour plant oh yeah so nah yeah i know you all are making
- 6:48
jokes oh you got to jump through the pain i it was my first part time being a part
- 6:55
of a tour that grows that type of money yes with that workload yeah and i did look forward to
- 7:02
it i did i did all right cry from our uh little tahoe runs across the country yeah yeah
- 7:08
listen and not only that with not only our podcast [ __ ] palooza ended
- 7:13
the year in barclays you talk a little different with live nation and your tour routing when you end a year with an
- 7:20
arena yeah that money was looking way different than it had ever looked before
- 7:26
i bet they said nope hold this flue so for me again the artists that have
- 7:32
had to create music the artists that have had to create a new way of living
- 7:38
the artists that have had to uh find new people i know puppy
- 7:45
new people to be in their corner new people at the label to support them just new
- 7:50
ways to gain momentum new ways to go viral this year indicated y'all having to figure out a
- 7:58
new way to do everything so before we go further i want to salute y'all i want to congratulate y'all and i want
- 8:05
to commend y'all before i begin the [ __ ] on any of you um the [ __ ] comes from a warm place and
- 8:12
we just have to do it because if it was great in the year then it was bad in the year and i don't think before i think before
- 8:19
we even get into the music side of things because all of that type of stuff took a back seat this year
- 8:25
and it was life-changing and the world changing and us adapting as humans and for me that
- 8:32
started even before 2020 hit with juice world's passing in december mm-hmm
- 8:38
um that set the tone in hindsight uh again like i said on the pod
- 8:45
that was one of my mom's favorite acts he was he was on his way to doing doing some
- 8:51
amazing things so yeah that hurt and then when january came
- 8:56
kobe's passing not even maybe three weeks later that was a lot and then a month later
- 9:05
was pop smoke this is before any quarantine lockdown right yeah the world
- 9:11
so i mean for me as a musician or retired musician the year was really weird and
- 9:19
i think that was highlighted because we were celebrating the end or beginning of a decade so normally
- 9:26
when you do that you're like ah hey in unison you're like uh-huh we going up we're going up we're going up
- 9:32
papi you all right you guys like that yeah he's cool um no i think with the
- 9:38
decade [ __ ] like i don't ever fault the people that try to use new years as a way to start new
- 9:44
things and become better people i've never fallen i know it's become a joke new year new me [ __ ] i've never i like i understand all right
- 9:49
if you're gonna use time as a way to reset yourself cool let's do it that way yeah so when the decade happened
- 9:55
we all went into this a whole new decade i can change so much of the last 10
- 10:02
years and then you start kobe to pop smoke and even though those aren't you know we didn't
- 10:09
personally know those people they're part of our culture and our everyday life you know we grew up with kobe right
- 10:14
boys that put a whole hinder on how i think i'm starting this new fresh start of everything yeah
- 10:22
like and even as like a 90s baby by the decade is by the decade for me i turned 30 20 20
- 10:29
20 10 20 like that whole [ __ ] so i was like oh i'm starting a literally a whole new decade in my life right and that's how it starts
- 10:36
yeah but i think more than anything you know it also taught us how how resilient we
- 10:43
are as um as humans um how resilient our our culture is
- 10:48
because it was it was times i know for me when we first went to lockdown it was like a lot of questions like all right what is this yeah because we've never
- 10:55
been told we have to lock down quarantine at all so we didn't you know we didn't know what to expect it was a lot of like
- 11:00
anxiety and people were just nervous and what's going on and then you look up and it's june july and it's like
- 11:07
it's not that bad right and now we're in december and it's like damn we went through a lot we did you
- 11:12
know what i mean like we made it through a lot a lot of things happened um there were some moments of normal
- 11:18
normalcy i guess in the summertime we had a couple of a couple little pockets here in there with things kind of felt a little normal
- 11:25
but um for the most part i like the way artists found a way to maneuver yeah i like the way our culture found a
- 11:31
way to maneuver around things and uh and not only that people outside of music like it was cool during the summer
- 11:37
with the pandemic and everything and there was just restaurants and bars you go get a drink on the street in new york i don't know how it was in the rest of the country
- 11:43
but everywhere was kind of like new orleans for a little bit and that was kind of ill yeah yeah that was that was really great that
- 11:49
was fun it was definitely different but it wasn't um we made the most of it yeah we made the most of it so i think
- 11:54
what we're saying here is in one of the biggest moments in of the year
- 12:00
was locked down oh absolutely one of the biggest opportunities human history yeah everything kind of
- 12:06
dictated off lockdown all the wild [ __ ] happened was just a the family tree of lockdown and
- 12:11
it started with quarantine and we all adjusted and wild should happen because we were all sitting in the entire what
- 12:17
was the first change or adjustment that you guys noticed about yourselves during that initial
- 12:23
part of quarantine like for me i learned how important human interaction
- 12:28
was for me yeah like i found myself like instaliving a lot
- 12:35
not because i was just having a blast but because i just needed to talk to people and avoid the four wall syndrome and
- 12:42
cadmium fever and all that [ __ ] that comes with being locked in the house yeah yeah i did a lot of zooms with
- 12:47
family members and you know friends that i consider family and that that was great and
- 12:52
it was every weekend you know getting drunk and hanging out looking at the screens that was a lot of fun i did a lot of um
- 12:59
i got rid of a lot of clutter things that you notice you you don't need yeah like you i became like minimal
- 13:06
is more yeah you know what i mean like and i that was one of the things i learned all myself is that i have way more than i thought i needed i'm
- 13:13
talking about way more like i can never not be grateful you know i mean like i i
- 13:18
could think i could speak for all of us like going through this quarantine and this pandemic like yeah things change but at
- 13:24
the same time you know family is healthy bills were paid yeah food was on the table you still
- 13:29
were able to move around and do some of the things we like to do and um you know at first you think
- 13:35
you're missing out on it and then you realize like i have more than i need yeah i have more than enough and that was one thing i learned about myself
- 13:41
through this whole year is that i definitely have way more than enough yeah i'm extraordinarily
- 13:46
thankful despite the fact that we just joked about losing all this money we still had enough to you know
- 13:52
absolutely yeah you know that's something you're grateful for absolutely super great i don't want to make it
- 13:57
sound like we're complaining about yeah
- 14:08
yeah i wanted to buy a house and [ __ ] like [ __ ] is [ __ ] up that's gonna that's gonna take a while
- 14:18
[Laughter]
- 14:23
what i learned during quarantine for real was how many hobbies i don't have
- 14:28
i had a therapist ask me like alright so what do you do to like for enjoyment outside of work yeah and i'm like nah my work i love i'm
- 14:35
blessed to be able to do what i love as well and she was like nah that's great i love that like what do you do outside of work
- 14:41
that makes you happy i was like i don't know i don't know who i am i have no idea
- 14:46
i'm like wait am i a really shallow dude so in quarantine i started finding out all
- 14:52
the hobbies i didn't have i was like oh wow i don't if i can't work i don't know what to who the [ __ ]
- 14:58
have i been that's right no gyms was rough i was working out with rubber bands and [ __ ] like [ __ ] got weird for a while
- 15:04
there because you as humans we have a routine i'm glad that they're just skipping over what you said
- 15:20
[Applause] that became like a real tough question in dating and dating during quarantine
- 15:26
was tough too but it was like hey what do you do for fun and without work and without restaurants
- 15:33
and bars and clubs i was like do i even know myself
- 15:40
yeah no it must have been hard as a single gentleman you guys should speak on that because absolutely we'll get to that later yeah
- 15:46
i'm sure it's hard for some of them yeah i know it was
- 16:01
[Laughter] yo parks mentioned something
- 16:08
and for me because my memory is bad i'm going to try to go through some of this in like chronological order so lockdown
- 16:14
was big after the deaths and parks mentioned zoom which for me there's a few things
- 16:19
this year because of how wild the year has been where at different times i've loved something about the year and i've gone
- 16:25
on to hate that very same thing you know zoom is right on that list oh yeah yeah zoom i'm super appreciative for all
- 16:34
that y'all have contributed to the year for sure many of us would not have been able to get work done
- 16:40
without you which was important because spotify was riding my dick to use you guys to get back to work so
- 16:48
thank you showed you how to use it yes he did so zoom thank you and i hear that you guys
- 16:53
stock is up up oh man the rich getting richer up up up up awesome i hate zoom
- 17:01
uh i hate
- 17:08
i hate people people have used zoom to make me more angry it's not zoom i
- 17:14
love that i can just click something and see somebody if i need to i think that's great i've never envied a
- 17:20
conference call in my life more than 20 20. i used to hate conference calls yeah now i'm like yo can we just talk on the
- 17:26
phone i don't need to see all faces i don't need to see the weird background of your home and your family pictures or your really
- 17:33
disgusting kitchen or when i'm finding out how much money you are making or not making and i start making a judgment call of who i'm
- 17:39
talking to just like why can't i just get on the phone with you or text or email that's what i miss and the people just
- 17:46
like now let's do a zoom one-on-one or i could call you right right right yeah relying on the zoom
- 17:51
as a tool is annoying because it's like seven times more work than just getting on a phone call or email or a text or meeting in person like
- 17:57
yeah make sure the lighting's right like i'm not even that guy but you have to the ig live thing got a little weird for
- 18:02
me so many people were just talking to each other on ig live and it was like i'm glad you brought it there because
- 18:09
what is going on my man of the year is probably d reasonable he came up
- 18:15
yeah deservedly so deservedly at the darkest time in quarantine he brought some joy like
- 18:21
he fam right when we was at what did for my life hey i could never
- 18:27
repay him because i look at like d nice a lot of people didn't know about the nice cool
- 18:33
i wasn't one of those people d nice didn't come up like he didn't gain a whole bunch of new
- 18:39
relationships industry-wise by doing what he did like it wasn't self-serving
- 18:44
his bag was already up his relationships were already up he had already done the inaugural
- 18:50
whatever like he did that so that was purely like a selfless oh [ __ ] the world
- 18:57
is [ __ ] up and at the time i was where rory was i don't know what's going on i don't
- 19:03
know how i'm a cop in this house i'm tired of instalive i'm tired of all this [ __ ] i don't feel a connection to people
- 19:09
d-nice was like the gateway to people when we thought we couldn't get to people
- 19:15
like the whole club quarantine common ground of what we love is music that we could all
- 19:20
just yes familiar familiarity once again the hip-hop culture saved the world yeah
- 19:27
but now outside of d-nice i'm with you i hated all you [ __ ] on it
- 19:34
now there was a lot of other dj dj culture in general did a huge service to uh i'm not talking about
- 19:39
the dj's right yeah yeah and j's crosstalk but it just it just showed corporate is gonna corporate no
- 19:44
matter [ __ ] what de nice did all that amazing cultural [ __ ] then all of a sudden chris christie's in the comments like
- 19:50
love this funky tune what is this jazzy little number you're playing
- 19:57
i know you're running right now but just stop okay biggest moments of the year well i feel
- 20:04
like we're that meme of those three little white kids sitting on the couch that they put in
- 20:11
the caption at the bottom what's the game just talk to your friends the podcast one the podcast meme which one
- 20:19
the one was a big picture and yeah someone listened to that that's not least i'm not no i'm talking about the three white kids that are sitting on the couch that
- 20:26
are like 11 and it says at the bottom is 6'9 a [ __ ] for snitching
- 20:31
i think they put maul's young boys as one of the games before too that's right the audio just gonna pick
- 20:39
that up we'll get back in i don't know rory because i don't look at pictures of white kids
- 20:45
i figured this was our way to come back all right biggest moments of the year uh for me
- 20:50
naturally tori and meg is high on that list but that's not where joe will start
- 20:57
no i will start with a story that i took personal satisfaction and
- 21:03
personal pride in this story developing right before our very eyes oh jada and will in august
- 21:12
that was number one for you
- 21:27
not the perfect that's something going wrong with the perfects that's true yes look at you happiness
- 21:34
yes downfall that was that was awesome to me august being messy them replying
- 21:42
red table talk him having an album the internet being confused this went on
- 21:48
for weeks i loved every second of it one of my favorite stories of the year
- 21:54
also one of the biggest moments of the year for sure but it it it's it's just unfortunate because it he
- 22:01
kind of just came to that one unfortunate about everybody in the situation getting their rocks off
- 22:06
facts everyone got [ __ ] everybody everybody everybody got [ __ ] and was happy he's
- 22:11
only the internet man like oh my god no i'm saying august is upset
- 22:17
smith is cool yeah but that's what i'm saying that's why it's unfortunate because it's like yo you did that for what
- 22:22
august you were a messy little thing this year you get my messy little thing award
- 22:28
yeah i'm giving you my messy little thing potty who else was in the runner
- 22:33
a lot of messing about me he was a messy little thing no way
- 22:39
this year no this is one of your coolers behind closed doors come on this is for the cool i didn't
- 22:44
think i was so messy yeah listen salute to the smiths salute to august alcena i thought that was an
- 22:50
amazing amazing just tail unraveling right before our eyes yeah these guys don't seem to have
- 22:56
appreciated entertaining no it was i appreciate the entertainment i appreciate i appreciate cleanups
- 23:02
cleanups are funny to me yeah watching the [ __ ] that you could see through with a straight face yeah my favorite
- 23:08
thing like this sit down with jada and will at the red table was the funniest clean i've ever seen in my life was
- 23:14
just sitting there agreeing like yeah you were a bit entangled huh meanwhile no one would will had already
- 23:20
said to her six months earlier i told you not to [ __ ] that little kid in my house yeah yeah and let me be able to learn we
- 23:27
could tell he said that yeah yeah yeah it was pretty transparent and then the people that just
- 23:32
just bite and agree with the cleanup like how mature these two were look at
- 23:38
will yeah going through no he said what he had to say he's over it now that's why this looks so mature to you
- 23:44
and here's the [ __ ] about all this i'm the only person that really enjoyed august's album
- 23:51
yo [ __ ] didn't [ __ ] with that album no i loved it some of his best work he's talented no he's very
- 23:58
talented he leaned a little too much into that and wasn't like 40 [ __ ] records on that
- 24:04
it was it was it was just that that he didn't realize that those two names would overshadow and
- 24:10
overpower anything he had coming yeah they didn't care about the music it was about the story after that
- 24:16
he beefed with any beef with joe for calling him messi i don't know he can't see nobody come on
- 24:22
you got to be real hogan you know that was me by the way i think that's a really interesting point moe just just brought up that's not just to all
- 24:28
but it's to a lot of artists that try to go after the big moments or the big beefs to do they roll out sometimes if you do a roll out too good
- 24:36
and and too much with [ __ ] attention no one's gonna care about your music no it's just you need to balance the idea
- 24:43
of i'm putting music out and i need to put out a good roll out that has attention but the attention needs to be the music
- 24:48
not that i [ __ ] will smith's white no but not only that it's because smith's will always be up here no matter who's making music unless you top
- 24:54
[ __ ] tear yeah but you not only that though it's will smith you know what i'm saying like no matter what you got coming
- 25:01
after will smith's name is mentioned nobody hears you yes will smith and that's just the bottom line i'll put
- 25:06
it this way will smith's music is behind will smith exactly exactly so it was a messy moment
- 25:12
for august but he is talented and i hope that 2021 he gets back to just the art of music
- 25:18
leave the messy [ __ ] alone talented kid yeah true i agree big stories for you guys
- 25:23
meg tory mctory mctory yeah i mean probably the biggest story still on goal of the year right yeah or
- 25:30
one of the biggest things i think we'll fully understand that sentence like [ __ ] the
- 25:36
year of just the existence of hip-hop the sentence what happened happened and we will find
- 25:42
out of tory lanez shooting mega stallion just that sentence in hip-hop is [ __ ]
- 25:48
wild yeah right [ __ ] this year that's a hip-hop moment from 1978 to 2020. yeah that's crazy
- 25:54
yeah we never we've never uh heard anything like that um never experienced anything like it
- 26:00
like we spoke about when it first happened this was definitely one of the wildest stories in our culture's history
- 26:06
for sure and if it is this is what indeed happened which is
- 26:12
still an ongoing case it makes it even more unfortunate because why two talented people yeah you know
- 26:19
somebody will go to jail prison for somebody is traumatized for the rest of their lives
- 26:24
yeah it's just unfortunate all the way around but this was definitely the one of the wildest stories in our culture
- 26:29
no question um what else was big what else was big this year um versus
- 26:36
was big in the year i'm still on creatively i'm not on set yeah yeah because all of the
- 26:44
protests this year were big for me too the senate seat changing
- 26:49
was big for me the election the [ __ ] all of that was this it's been a crazy year the impeachment
- 26:55
was all that stuff was big but creatively right after d nice comes versus for me
- 27:00
boy did they they just saw they just provided a lot of bright spots uh and a lot of
- 27:07
a lot of back and forth that i just never thought i would see yeah yeah it was the brightest moment of
- 27:13
the year to me probably so i know we our listeners have joked about this is the versus cast now
- 27:18
and all that [ __ ] but like you see the the impact that should have this year and how yeah
- 27:24
i hate the word uplifted but it was such a great moment to be like oh [ __ ] we get a versus this weekend yeah finally i got
- 27:29
something to do and what are the music i like we did versus ourselves for fun for years yeah so of course we're
- 27:36
going to talk about verses when it becomes actually yeah i mean that's sorry barbershop talk to begin with now we get to see it from the
- 27:42
legends and they get paid for it and to your point of bringing everyone together the way dee nights did
- 27:48
we have a common thing to talk about that we all love yeah well that's what i was about to say outside of the creative genius behind
- 27:54
versus and what it's done and what it's meant for people the business and the back end of now
- 28:01
showing some of these companies and executives that there's value in your old catalog that maybe you
- 28:07
didn't know how to get to today that was big yeah and it was also again for the generation now
- 28:15
who wasn't familiar with a lot of these artists their back catalog yeah i think they did that old [ __ ] i
- 28:22
never envisioned to be sitting home saying hey how do i get my streaming up right yeah right but it happened it
- 28:28
happened so i mean man especially like the early stages when it was songwriters and producers
- 28:33
where you don't necess those are people that aren't as known you know what i mean because especially now there's no credits on any platform shots title
- 28:41
which i would like to call out versus four uh i think that was uh b cox that asked me if i thought versus
- 28:47
would ever get back to the producers and the writers and unfortunately my response was no just because it's apple involved now the
- 28:55
the cachet seems to have changed a little bit but i would love to see y'all get back to
- 29:01
writers and producers and things of that nature i disagree a little bit i mean not to take anything away from e40 and
- 29:08
too short both legends in their own right but still somewhat niche as far as what their music was of course
- 29:15
they have huge hit records but that's a very bay area sound and they still did that i don't think it would be odd for them
- 29:20
to go back to de bruyne michael cox's of the world that wrote
- 29:26
number one records for decades like you're still going to play really popular music if you go back to certain writers and producers
- 29:32
maybe the name isn't but that's just how you market it you have to figure out a way to market who these writers and producers are to
- 29:38
get people to watch oh they wrote all this for x y and z that's right that's a marketing thing i don't think it's
- 29:43
far-fetched to say they'll go back to the legendary producers and writers yeah cause we're not that far
- 29:48
not that far i won't debate with y'all about it i mean i hope you're all right i
- 29:53
understand i love your forecast i would love to see it well i mean i love the writers and producer [ __ ] just because i'm a i'm a music nerd but i'm also
- 30:00
love pop music and i love huge records so it was such a great marriage of highlighting the people behind the
- 30:07
scenes that put this [ __ ] together but we could also jam out to records that everybody loves yeah the nerd in me
- 30:13
loved all that early versus [ __ ] i thought that was great like all the way through uh
- 30:18
sean deshawn garrett [ __ ] like it was hilarious but in the back of my mind i was like all right i don't care if his
- 30:24
drunk ass is doing this people are finally gonna give sean garrett some flowers well that's the funny thing about the behind
- 30:29
the scenes guys you might get some more characters that are willing to do some more funny [ __ ] than like a super
- 30:35
duper star because they gotta protect their image and corporate you know well no doubt no doubt but you're not gonna see
- 30:41
alicia key show up hammer drunk and yeah making funny faces like it's not gonna happen
- 30:46
so i hope that they do go back to that at least like a undercard thing that we talked about like well one of my favorite verses
- 30:52
wasn't the verses at all actually was something that i put together which was hit boy versus boy wonder yeah and [ __ ] [ __ ] yeah man i won't
- 31:00
talk too much [ __ ] because i if that happened four to five months later this goes
- 31:08
way different like we was it was early on but uh i think that was one of my favorites
- 31:15
along with [ __ ] timber swiss early on i just will get in our favorite verses hitboy dropping that uh
- 31:21
nipsey thing might have nipsy verse on sean record might have been the best moment of all the verses in my personal opinion that was the most memorable
- 31:27
thing to me it was it was really dope yes and and i mean just shout out to the people that were early on the [ __ ] because i mean and again i don't know
- 31:33
their business nor am i asking it wait and you're a podcaster you don't know their business you don't
- 31:40
know their finances i think people like boy wonder and
- 31:46
hit boy did this just to feed the fans during quarantine like i know everyone now with versus gets a
- 31:53
bag their streams go up crazy they benefit like i think a lot of legacy acts are like i can't wait to get that swiss call
- 31:58
because how much money i'm about to get off this [ __ ] dave was on ig and they own studios doing this [ __ ] for us like that early
- 32:04
versus cast we need to give credit to yeah like dream just don't do [ __ ] and dream did
- 32:11
that yeah like he did that for us i don't know if he got money but either way was on ig and they were just doing
- 32:16
[ __ ] for fans in the living rooms that were miserable like i can't do [ __ ] yeah i'm glad from a production
- 32:22
standpoint that they moved on because it was an absolutely horrid experience listening to it but it
- 32:27
was more fun when it sounded shitty well that hit boy and boy won the uh battle that
- 32:32
definitely accelerated both of their careers they were both very two very good producers already but
- 32:37
the artist that hit one boys wait till you see who he who
- 32:43
even in the studio i've been talking to him you've been in the studio but do you don't think the two of them was already
- 32:48
in those studios before verses boy wonders working with hey he hasn't boy wonder works with trey i know but
- 32:54
who
- 33:06
drake make another one i know there's other legendary artists though it's not just drinks that's all um high school lamar rashad
- 33:13
legendary artist i mean you know well tell us [ __ ] you need us to give us the sneak peek
- 33:18
you can't spill the beans here can't do that who else could boy one to be in the studio where that he hasn't been in with
- 33:24
michael we'll see prince we'll see we'll see we'll see 821 god willing
- 33:30
why you didn't get kuji down to your socks we didn't see it well uh mike you're still a fan of the cool
- 33:36
thing that nike socks
- 33:47
um the grammy the grammy debacle yeah the first one and the second one
- 33:52
there's two i think the grammys that happened this year yeah star wars was there two what was that well the grammy announcements
- 33:59
that just happened recently and then the oh yes okay okay both of them yeah the grammys is the
- 34:04
best let's just i'm telling them yeah when shorty from the board got busy and was just like yo
- 34:10
toxic all of them is corrupt the lawyers the managers it's all corrupt and then she went on
- 34:16
she did uh the press run she was on good day new york was this year of the year that the the main dude of the grammys was on some
- 34:22
women need to work harder [ __ ] yes that wasn't this year no that was last year okay either way we we know that what's
- 34:28
up that was [ __ ] that was crazy especially because he came out that [ __ ] like a press conference like she came
- 34:33
out and was like yo i know we didn't have any women maybe they need to work harder that was crazy well if it was if that
- 34:39
wasn't this year it was carried over into this year when shorty um and not sure i need to get her
- 34:46
name uh it leaves me at the moment the head of the grammys was saying she already needed to make that music
- 34:51
[Music] while women are making all the best music
- 34:57
that was insane women running every genre ever the grammys [ __ ] suck i'm sorry oh
- 35:02
there we go deborah dugan yeah there you go deborah duggan i watched deborah dugan on plenty of news outlets and she was
- 35:09
perturbed at the grammys that was a big that was a big thing for me it was a big thing y'all just seemed to
- 35:16
go off right over it i don't understand it but it's cool uh what else what else was big big moments
- 35:23
big moments um fun moments are we gonna do we want to
- 35:28
get into
- 35:34
yet yeah if we want to go there we could go there where's there george floyd
- 35:41
change the the entire year and probably next decade or three yeah well that was the one that
- 35:47
was that was a worldwide uh reaction and that was
- 35:53
terrifying and sad and beautiful at the same time seeing the rest of the world protest
- 36:00
with us yeah people that were in america people that didn't really have to because it didn't affect them
- 36:06
directly right i thought that was beautiful um it finally felt like that enough is enough thing that i
- 36:14
feel like everybody is a sentiment that happens after every time we see these unfortunate videos
- 36:20
of black men and women being killed by law enforcement i feel like every time
- 36:25
it's been like yo this is enough and then life gets back on track right this was the first time where i felt
- 36:31
life did not get back on track at least for a little change is going inside since unfortunately yeah i know i know
- 36:38
i'm not saying it's stopped it didn't fix for the first time it felt like no we're not going to be quiet anymore we
- 36:43
we've been through this with multiple names and i've always felt like people have just
- 36:48
moved on after a month until the next one yeah this finally felt like nope not
- 36:54
anymore this is going straight to the top with this one and things are going to change completely yeah off this one and we're
- 37:01
not there yet but it it felt that way at least it felt like a little it felt like a a genuine start yeah it wasn't but it was
- 37:07
unfortunate because then shortly after george floyd we had brianna taylor yeah you know i mean so it was like you know
- 37:15
you look at you look at the situation that's going on in the world and then something like that happens you
- 37:20
know it's it just shows we have a long way to go but i do like the fact that the world
- 37:26
woke up and you know we were all had one message this year wasn't the year that we lost
- 37:32
our dallas guy both of them right that was last that was last year yeah just carry over effect with all of this [ __ ]
- 37:38
but racism is worldwide enough for nothing absolutely you know it's it's it may be worse in america because of our history but it's
- 37:46
it's everywhere i mean it's it's everywhere it's everyone's history you know plenty of countries but but it was it was a beautiful thing to
- 37:52
see uh unification across the globe yeah yeah it hurts
- 37:57
and it hurts hearing the word beautiful i know i know and i don't mean but i do
- 38:02
understand yeah yeah the aftermath and the after effect and the result
- 38:09
was powerful yeah and that and that and that george floyd stuff seemed to
- 38:15
hit so close to home it's almost like when when somebody you knew caught cobit this year and it
- 38:21
changed things for you like the fact that stephen jackson was so close to george
- 38:27
floyd before the world knew about like yeah it was it was too close to home for me
- 38:34
yeah um but it did feel good to see the world stand up like that
- 38:39
um it felt good to hear new conversations being had like defund the police and
- 38:44
yeah just all these all these different things but all the protests
- 38:49
uh nationwide and worldwide i think that was a big thing too that there were protests across the
- 38:56
world yeah for some of the things that were happening in america yeah and that felt good yeah and granted like
- 39:04
i said racism is worldwide so they were probably standing up for [ __ ] that's happening in
- 39:09
their own country that maybe we aren't as aware of because they're not as uh
- 39:14
media driven as america maybe or whatever but it was it was nice to see that
- 39:21
unification and very long overdue um recipes george wood
- 39:27
rest in peace george floyd brianna taylor ray shaw brooks ray shaw brooks everybody who lost life
- 39:34
this year yes on a much on a much uh smaller scale of course coming off of
- 39:41
that topic uh the sports world adjusting to quarantine and kobit played a big part
- 39:50
in the year for me a lot of our entertainment was affected absolutely big time absolutely i didn't
- 39:55
think we would get sports at all this year honestly i thought it would be we would get a little week or two or three or four and then it would be shut
- 40:02
down but they've managed to get through a sort of entire season of nba a sort of
- 40:08
entire well most of the season of nfl thus far they've started the new season the next season in the nba it's it
- 40:14
started i know rory and i was joking around a lot about this but
- 40:20
i felt like at that time a lot of people were looking to see how the nba handled this to see how they would
- 40:28
handle it yeah um there was a lot of skepticism but somehow they figured out a way
- 40:37
yo all of the moments where entertainment found a way yeah saved the [ __ ] out of me going
- 40:43
crazy in my house like that's going to be a reoccurring theme for me i never thought the nfl would finish their season either at all
- 40:50
but the fact that they're about there yeah we're close i mean my fantasy season is shot to [ __ ]
- 40:55
i could have sworn nfl and mlb i was like oh yeah this isn't going to last another month
- 41:01
would have the best chance until like three teams got wiped out early on that is the same thing so i was like mlb should be fine and then the amount of
- 41:07
people in the first three weeks i was like oh they're not going to fix it i thought nfl would be the one that didn't make it because you're literally in dog
- 41:13
piles my second man of the year as we talk i'm gonna figure out my men of the year
- 41:19
what's the [ __ ] picture from the dodgers is that clayton kershaw
- 41:25
the guy that made it to the big dance every [ __ ] year only to not finish the job one of the
- 41:31
greatest regular season pitchers in the history of the game to choke like we've never seen him choke and they
- 41:38
won it with no fans in the stands clayton kershaw delivers nobody is
- 41:46
happier than clayton kershaw that no fans were in the stands for sports seriously adam silver would
- 41:53
also be my man of the year literally just about to say adam silver has to be over adam sylvester and george floyd rest in peace adam
- 41:59
silver president did better than our president thinking like money how you got that whole [ __ ]
- 42:05
through is crazy they got everybody locked in the house and okay with it relatively except for paul george
- 42:12
um what other moments were this
- 42:25
[Applause] regis this year yeah yeah we lost sean
- 42:32
connery this year yeah let me just read out the list of names people that we've lost kobe bryant gian
- 42:40
and brian chadwick boseman little richard alex trebek ruth uh ginsberg john lewis eddie van
- 42:48
halen betty white all right don larson kenny rogers cliff robbins damn
- 42:53
cliff robinson died did she uncle cliff andre harrell andre harrell family we love you jesus
- 43:00
christ bill withers regis philbin sean connery jerry stiller
- 43:05
caroline flack nyaya rivera fred the godson charlie pride black and male troy snead
- 43:11
pop smoke king vaughn moe three fbg duck nick this whole year was
- 43:17
darkness sadness eugene farrell my grandfather right around the corner rest in peace
- 43:22
your granddad like blue benji kobe shot in broad daylight weeks after signing a record
- 43:29
deal at 24 like [Applause] yeah yeah it's been hard it was a rough
- 43:35
year it was i was mixing to fred the godson record when he passed
- 43:42
fred we miss you and we love you man absolutely do we have any more moments that were
- 43:47
big all of the presidential [ __ ] was big yeah all of the covered stuff was very
- 43:53
big i feel like so much of the george things are ppe checks election rpp checks that as well
- 44:00
stimulus checks that did not stimulate [ __ ] except for the rich
- 44:06
amazon got stimulated pretty good and shake shack shake shake they gave it
- 44:12
back yeah the scammers that thought of new scams this year like oh my god next year don't worry
- 44:28
you think the government doesn't have the best accountants in the world okay people commit crimes in 2020 moving
- 44:34
forward how do you commit a crime now yeah everything is right here just around the cameras that everyone
- 44:40
has their house it's crazy but how do you commit a crime and you pay a sell bill yeah yeah
- 44:46
and have the phone on you while you're having wi-fi and committing crimes instagram's listening the whole time like yeah all right do you guys want to
- 44:53
get into do you guys want to have a heated debate now or do you guys want to ease into some of this stuff um
- 44:59
uh you guys want to get right in the album of the year
- 45:04
most of these shows place album of the year at the end so you guys can listen all the way through
- 45:10
here at the jbp we don't really operate like that i want to get to the fighting early let's do it i have
- 45:28
like i love baldy james and i love kailani i just don't know how to put them head to head
- 45:33
they shouldn't go ahead let's separate them let's do rap let's do it rap albums of the year
- 45:40
unfortunately i have a list in my hand of the rap albums that have dropped [Music]
- 45:45
i don't think it's been such a memorable year creatively uh because the year has gone
- 45:53
the way it's gone i've been watching other things with acts outside of how they choose to create music
- 45:58
um like i'm watching how they conduct their business how they engage their following i'm watching a bunch of other
- 46:04
stuff but for album of the year this is the year of the underground hip-hop
- 46:10
album of the year shine because they they cleaned up no i'm sorry i'm sorry we're starting early
- 46:15
we're going to get into that but i want to chop it in the head early i love that that happened yeah and a lot
- 46:21
of watching shut up about it oh yo no yeah yeah but after three rich was
- 46:29
2019. the box was still the number one song that's that's 2020.
- 46:34
that's his retort yeah 2019. i do love that term backpack and where
- 46:39
it came and derived from yeah this was the year of the music that plays well in your crib
- 46:44
yeah sorry people that just focus on the club it wasn't your year and it shows in the best hip hop albums
- 46:50
this year yeah even though he's playing the grammys it it's representative the fact that
- 46:56
electronica and freddie gibbs and alchemist and royce and i wasn't you know i don't know if we spoke about it on the show
- 47:03
but i wasn't mad at the the grammys selection for rap albums of the year me either i may not have
- 47:09
went with d smoke only because i'm you know i wasn't locked in on d smoke's album like that he made a good album for the most part
- 47:16
it still was a good album yeah it was a good one but you told me it was bad and i didn't listen to it guys i think
- 47:21
smoke is a talented dude and i think he's gonna have a great career these smoke did not deserve to get a grab of the year nomination i
- 47:27
agree and i don't i don't i'm just saying aside from that i wasn't mad at the rest of the category i'm gonna read y'all a list of some of
- 47:33
the albums or most of the albums hip-hop to drop this year y'all give me your thoughts let's go at the end of the
- 47:38
list let's go um we've got eminem music to be murdered by mac miller circles huh plus deluxe and
- 47:45
the b-side little wayne funeral circles isn't a hip-hop russ shake the snow globe a boogie with the hoodie where's the five
- 47:51
nine bait a little baby little uzi vert jada kiss jay electronica joining lucas west side gun uh the baby drake chris
- 47:58
brown young thug future freddie gibbs run the jewels pop smoke juice world logic nods west side gun big sean
- 48:04
conway the machine young boy never broke again 21 savage reason benny the butcher ti ty dolla sign king bond buster rhymes
- 48:13
gentlemen there's two chains in there two chains yeah that's cool future and little uzi that's cool
- 48:18
let's start off who wants to be bold are we starting at five are we starting in the future and uzi meg the stallion
- 48:23
jeezy st john juicy j kid cudi are we doing our our five i don't i
- 48:28
don't mind i'm ready popping it off i'm ready oh you know my [ __ ] is hip hop just hip-hop no r b in order
- 48:36
i got number one freddy gibbs alchemist alfredo number two i got conway from a king to a
- 48:42
god number three i have little baby my turn not man four i have still got
- 48:47
cooks reasonable drought five i have pop smoke shoot for the stars aim for the moon i have a whole 10
- 48:52
here but i like those actually we have a lot of similar ones i had uh it wasn't a singular album but the the
- 48:59
ransom and nicholas craven crime scenes was my favorite if you put them all together it's album
- 49:05
and that's how i'm going i don't give a [ __ ] uh number two i had stove god number three i had uh conway number four
- 49:13
i had a tie between freddie gibbs and goldie james and alchemist albums because i like them
- 49:19
both equally and number five i don't recall what i had i'm going off top of my head i think i
- 49:25
had bad buddy but that's not i was going off by the way i wasn't mad at we killed bdot but i wasn't mad at
- 49:30
his reasons for judging skill performance presence these weren't my personal
- 49:36
favorites okay in order i wouldn't personally this is what i thought were the five best this year i don't care about the other [ __ ] i want
- 49:42
personal favorite i had uh i had nas stove god conway freddie gibbs benny
- 49:50
and royce the five nine reasonable that's six but that that's that was those are my picks all right
- 49:56
maul has my exact list huh but nas gets album of the year
- 50:02
for me i like it i have nas at six months yeah now this is on my top ten somewhere using my uh honorable
- 50:08
mentions with without question as was benny and hitboy my quick 10 from there
- 50:13
because mentioning off that [ __ ] nas king disease west side gun pray for paris benny burden of proof bodie james and
- 50:19
alchemist price of t in china 21 savage metro boomin savage that was great those are my honorable mentions
- 50:25
but your album of the year is what freddie gibbs alfredo mines is ransom
- 50:30
the scene ransom yeah uh from king to god conway conway
- 50:37
really good album yeah juicy j was a honorable mention for me uh pop smoke's other album the
- 50:42
um first one was two i believe it was called uh was up there shane noir had a couple
- 50:47
of good albums that i would put in there spillington village was one of my favorite alternative hip-hop albums i don't know what to [ __ ] call
- 50:53
it all six plus pop smoke i don't know where you put saint john
- 50:58
because i was going through when i was putting my list together between hip-hop albums and r b albums dude i was like st john belongs
- 51:04
on one of these lists i just don't know what list to put him on i had him on hip hop and i don't know if that's right
- 51:09
because i don't consider hip hop at all to go look online belongs on the uh oh seven oh shake list
- 51:14
that alternative yeah i agree with no shake had a [ __ ] amazing because i was that was this year that's one of my favorite albums to drop that was a great
- 51:21
this year i texted joe two days ago when he was trying to put this [ __ ] together i said what do you consider 07
- 51:27
shakes joint because like that was one of my favorite period of the year yeah i don't know
- 51:32
it's not it's an alternative yeah it's the same way with with childhood synthetic soul i couldn't figure out
- 51:37
where i would put that because it's not even labeled under r b it's right labeled under alternative right fields are beating what they have
- 51:43
labeled saint is hip-hop no i think that really went to go look wow because i was trying to put him on
- 51:50
my list it's not not rapping hip-hop but it's not rapping yeah i don't know i don't know he's in the cuddy category i feel like
- 51:56
let me give you my reasons for picking nods because the gentleman that you guys
- 52:01
named all did a phenomenal phenomenal job contemporary r b contemporary is a hilarious
- 52:07
through match yeah this is music yeah oh no yes that thing called music i feel like
- 52:14
nas was under a lot more pressure to deliver
- 52:21
facts i feel like nas had the most writing on this specific release yeah
- 52:27
um it's hard when you have an album that was kind of panned fairly unfairly however and you
- 52:34
acknowledge the panning because he did acknowledge that the kanye [ __ ] didn't go the way he
- 52:40
thought it might go but even that to come off of doing an album with one producer
- 52:45
as great as kanye and it not go well and say okay i'm gonna try it again the way that i think it should be done
- 52:52
and then work out flawlessly and not only that someone that we don't know
- 52:57
publicly you have had a long relationship with say nas and preem announce the album we go oh that makes
- 53:03
sense all right to go from the kanye [ __ ] and then has there ever been a nas
- 53:09
hit boy song prior to that couple on the uh lost tapes too and maybe a couple other
- 53:15
uh along the line but yeah it just wasn't the pick that i would have guessed i was never mad at it when they
- 53:21
announced it but i was like all right i mean i could have seen a nas and riza tate before i saw
- 53:26
a naz and hit boy [ __ ] yeah yeah so of that like all right what are you
- 53:32
trying to do with this we we love hip boy we love knobs but i don't know if i need this i think it probably took some pressure off
- 53:37
in the eyes though because like i feel like a nas premiere album or not vs album would have so much hype from not just
- 53:45
after history i think there was more pressure too because his boy was on a run we didn't know the brother it was the
- 53:51
starter that was the start of the run he had he had he had some joints oh
- 53:59
so that was the start of the run as far as this year not his career run obviously yeah got it his
- 54:05
2020 [ __ ] he had put he had been a few joints two singles that were big for twenty but that's 2020
- 54:10
where it was like oh hitboy is the producer this year yeah also this year with nah specifically
- 54:16
like one of my nitpicking gripes with all of you creatives out there was
- 54:22
like it's our job to change the world or if not change the world at least be the
- 54:27
voice box to speak for the world changing so this year with so many new elements
- 54:34
in the world i felt just felt like creatively the [ __ ] that was really good with
- 54:39
words would have a blast and that fell short to me this year
- 54:44
like a lot of y'all did what you normally do not nas even though yes nas too
- 54:53
nas did what he normally does but it was perfect the timing of the world
- 54:58
with what nas does it gave me what i needed from an emcee and an album
- 55:04
and it was flawless to me i think knock with knowledge gave us crazy what we always well what the
- 55:10
culture always kind of knocking for was just the production on this album yeah that's what they didn't really always like to
- 55:15
play nah he spoke to the times yeah and i'm looking for more rappers
- 55:22
but that's that's been the knockout no doubt about the way he was forcing the toms like even like like force you know what i'm
- 55:28
saying he didn't do that like even when i saw the bonus track spicy which ended up being one of my favorite
- 55:33
records with fabio and ferg i was like do i need a nas and favio song right now
- 55:39
right and it was one of my favorite joints it sounded like it was it was it was a
- 55:45
bonus yo nana times now but it didn't sound like nas was hopping on some [ __ ] like all right
- 55:52
who was this old guy that just showed up to the party yeah like we could see your old ass in the corner the chicks over here leave it didn't
- 55:58
feel that way at all like you sounded fine on it all the [ __ ] that i'm naming that and we think about all their morning because
- 56:03
i didn't name anybody [Music] they impressed me by stepping into them
- 56:09
even more this year like benny did him more stove god did him more
- 56:16
royce is probably my second rapper of the year just because of how he even he in year
- 56:23
20 whatever of his career yeah seemed to step into him more like i'm not sure what
- 56:30
that more control of his voice i'm not sure what the category is for royce i think gibbs did that better than
- 56:36
anybody no royce royce had a very unique how old is gibbs hello i want to apply this how old is gibbs i
- 56:42
feel like he's probably 30 34. i don't know and i don't uh did not take might take my point back
- 56:48
roy's 38 48. oh okay gives us 38 kids is [ __ ] old like us but no but why i say that
- 56:55
is your point there like gibbs has been rapping this way for over a decade finally i feel like gibbs is getting
- 57:01
into his [ __ ] as far as creating real records knowing the producers he just wants to work with
- 57:06
being very comfortable in the music he's putting out yeah yeah i think gibbs did that more than anybody coming off bandana last year
- 57:13
yeah and then alfredo in this year thanks gibbs gibbs feels the most comfortable listening to records then
- 57:19
i'm not sure i'm trying to figure out what category to put royce in because lyrically he had one of the best years his album is one of the best albums of
- 57:25
the year but the fact that he moved into production producing his old album producing i forgot how many songs was off of
- 57:31
eminem's album but that's and that l.a league is freestyle and ellie and the la leakers freestyle
- 57:36
yeah but that's clinic that's a very interesting thing i'm happy for royce though that this was nominated for grammy because
- 57:42
he took a a chance on his music yeah he started producing a lot of his own [ __ ] yeah and he had a vision for it and you
- 57:48
know i mean like and i think that no bad meets evil came out this year listen it's someone who is no relying on
- 57:55
right anything anywhere someone has worked with a lot of upcoming producers and at one point was an upcoming producer
- 58:00
myself the fact that he just started producing and produced at the level that he did in year one right is insane
- 58:07
so i want to just salute him i'm not sure what category that fits in and i want to shout out listen because
- 58:13
we talk about the best the best our best our best
- 58:18
but there's some of y'all here that put out just good albums
- 58:23
and when albums are good we have this tendency to just ignore it right but man this king vaughn album was
- 58:30
a good really good album for me i have reasons new beginnings had it not
- 58:36
dropped so close to that another good album very good i feel like it would have made my top five i just can't alex split the
- 58:43
list i need music to live for a little bit before i put it in the top five category that's why i feel for all the artists
- 58:50
like reason new beginnings october 9th it's tough to put that in a category
- 58:55
when i'm still living with it and that's why i feel for the artist when it comes list time even though we all hate it and it's
- 59:01
it's stupid it's tough when you put some [ __ ] out late and expect to be on lists
- 59:07
because i haven't had all year or at least six months to live with it to see how it ages but the reason to me
- 59:12
that new beginnings album deserves to be in a top five yeah because it was just too late for me to
- 59:19
resonate that it had the impact that it deserved just because it hasn't been long enough but reason [ __ ] should have been in there
- 59:25
all day um in that for me for me no surprise here but i definitely
- 59:31
think that west side guns crate for paris all of griselda [ __ ] was good this year all the gazelles
- 59:36
was good high tech hot take which i guess isn't really hot take my personal pray for ferris was my favorite grizzle to drop of this year
- 59:42
and i was the one that came in here and said burden of proof was album of the year i retract my statement pray for paris to
- 59:47
my personal favorite of any result of drama i'm not mad at that it's a perfect album really good album here that nobody will say because
- 59:54
it's not hip to say it t.i put out a really good album yeah he did again
- 1:00:02
sean detroit too when you i like going back and hearing albums where i know exactly where that
- 1:00:08
person is in their life and i liked hearing like calm peaceful sean
- 1:00:13
i went back and listened to detroit too after giving it some time i identified with sean with so much of
- 1:00:20
what he's saying in this part of his life entering into his thirties in the piece that he's trying
- 1:00:25
to find that he didn't have in his twenties i think if you give detroit to some time i don't think detroit two will get its
- 1:00:31
credit this year or first listen wasn't my [ __ ] yeah that's one that you gotta let that live
- 1:00:37
for six months go back to it sean is talking some [ __ ] on there i gotta go back to it
- 1:00:43
it's a lot of music but i don't want detroit two to go under the radar or first listen and even though i don't
- 1:00:48
know what him and b dot's relationship is we're gonna get into that yeah and lastly on my list of just good
- 1:00:55
even though this is not the time for just good but i'll give it to you anyway all of 21 savage's albums are good yeah
- 1:01:02
that's the project they're all good yeah i'm glad you brought 21 seconds up because before we got out of hip-hop
- 1:01:07
to get into that word presence 21 savage this year presents and i don't
- 1:01:13
want to bring up chatty house and all that other [ __ ] but seeing artists come into their own
- 1:01:18
as personalities and just people within media because rappers no longer can just
- 1:01:24
rap disappear and come back it's impossible if you want to stay relevant in these times 21 this year made his presence known not
- 1:01:31
only with music but who he was as a intellect and who he was as a person yeah that is shown this year
- 1:01:38
he has been part of huge moments in a very positive light yeah like 21's presence this year
- 1:01:45
i have maybe number one or two as far as rappers that were involved in this entire year not just with music yeah of
- 1:01:51
just being around yeah and in a positive way i'm gonna add somebody to that um i mean they don't hurt him yeah the
- 1:01:58
baby got it but we got him he put me yet he had a good year too yeah the baby is wanting it i'm not he didn't put
- 1:02:21
the baby and um st john for me there's other artists to mention in that um presence how do you think you would go
- 1:02:27
there looking at the list they got them under hip-hop so let's talk about it so let's talk about it the
- 1:02:34
[ __ ] out of here about them everywhere else they got him in the country hip-hop
- 1:02:39
one of the biggest records of the year the best country have i ever heard one of the biggest records i've seen john in that presence outside of music
- 1:02:45
it was felt if he was in l.a yes yeah i mean he said president she said
- 1:02:50
the word presence all right he was president yeah i'm with you if he was on social media like in the dm
- 1:02:56
like those back streets yeah the alleys of he's in the back streets allegedly yeah all right r b all right
- 1:03:03
rory and joe tarzan be parked let's toss it to you baby who do you feel really outperformed and
- 1:03:10
outdid themselves in r b they say rock marcy he had one of my favorite r b yeah the
- 1:03:16
way he harmonized with the b was like ransom yeah special [ __ ] guy over here
- 1:03:25
more what's up man st john really dominated the r b world huh it says it says contemporary r
- 1:03:31
b all right all right what are we doing let's put them in both categories the
- 1:03:37
truth finally comes out parks and mall don't listen to any r b no
- 1:03:42
it's fine i got my pictures i got my picks yeah he was like we'll actually listen to more r b than
- 1:03:47
he leads the world on to believe no i'm a r b thug yeah i actually don't think i think he liked me i don't think he listened to rap i listen to rap
- 1:03:53
i just i love r b though yeah rizzo zelda
- 1:04:04
yeah yeah for sure you go nuts for sure when they singing with joyce rice huh that'll make you go crazy no
- 1:04:17
[Laughter]
- 1:04:25
you and i the r b heads of of this of this movement i could just see more talking to shorty
- 1:04:30
on the couch you know the way benny moved that pack come on you got his melody got to hit a
- 1:04:36
melody two years from now i see benny trying to add harmonizing into his mix into his hooks yeah yeah come on man
- 1:04:43
right james from buffalo that's true he's just gonna try to keep the content the same stepped all on the coke like he's just
- 1:04:49
gonna try and sing some [ __ ] like that you got a little smoky voice let's not forget that that westside had someone tap dancing on
- 1:04:57
the coke but really tap dancing on the song and i was like yo
- 1:05:02
do y'all get it he's stepping on the blow i like that we started our r b
- 1:05:08
conversation with rock marcy and yeah i'm i'm off of you and maul now i have almost
- 1:05:13
anything aboard it's you and i ready do you want to work heads of the pod all right get off your
- 1:05:18
list what we got here is you guys his favorite brethren
- 1:05:23
yes uh janae iaco the weeknd childish gambino party next door jessie
- 1:05:31
reyes kiana lady uh division the dream jojo kailani ro james justice
- 1:05:39
yes justine skye tiana taylor victoria monet brandy bryson tiller trey songz i
- 1:05:44
didn't see one of rory's favorite albums ariana grande listed here
- 1:05:56
that was pete davidson what do you call it when it's nothing but smashes smashing me rory by the way this list
- 1:06:03
was conducted by our behind the scenes people uh for anyone that gets offended that it wasn't said here because i feel like even my
- 1:06:10
top ten list was left out of the list jesse reyes and keon lady had my
- 1:06:15
favorite r b albums i loved jesse reyes and kiana's albums both this year yeah my my five and i think you guys
- 1:06:22
really underperformed this year oh john would be number three probably for me i'm rob freestyle on this one so
- 1:06:29
that that was a according to apple music a hip-hop and rap album i have my top i give you all my top 12
- 1:06:36
but i'll give you all my top five lay some lacey streets all right i'll give you all my my 10 to 12 instead of my five just because
- 1:06:43
it's the r b cast this is your [ __ ] i'm gonna make sure yeah uh this is an emotional orange is one emotional oranges too
- 1:06:49
we uh we did not put anything out this year besides the all that single which you can get on all dsps right now
- 1:06:55
though i did want to put my child synthetic soul in this but it's not labeled as rb it's alternative so i
- 1:07:00
didn't add it into this as 0707 shake all the numbers can't still can't spell preparation
- 1:07:06
without rory listen it's a hemorrhoid joke
- 1:07:14
[Laughter] [Music] and please don't ask me didn't even go
- 1:07:22
there all right i was on the chatty house they pulled me up to the stage it was mad podcast yo what's going on
- 1:07:29
oh man some nice woman was like hey i don't think he wants to hear that in here right now
- 1:07:34
wow she understands me all right r b albums in order kailani it was good
- 1:07:40
until it wasn't give you on take tom i suppose that was the ep uh brent i'm okay with the eps being in the album
- 1:07:46
of the year and what was the name of kailani's it was good until it wasn't which i think is a fire title yeah um
- 1:07:52
yeah that was a dope good cover too give you on take time brent feyer's [ __ ] the world division amusing her feelings
- 1:07:58
xavier omar if you feel liana lahaves leona lavis chloe and haley ungodly hour tiana the album
- 1:08:04
victoria monet jaguar dinner party dessert kiana letter kiki uh alina perez it was devon i had um
- 1:08:11
i had brent the weeknd uh kelani janae tiana and uh victoria monet
- 1:08:19
[ __ ] for r b albums i like it and saint but he's not rb i didn't love and listen this hurts my r
- 1:08:26
b fan fear to say i didn't love so much of the r b this year really not coming off of the 2019 that r b had
- 1:08:33
yeah and division like the r b in 2019 we was coming well i was coming away
- 1:08:39
from that same damn they really outperformed the the rapper so r b has actually been on a run for like
- 1:08:44
a decade oh [ __ ] me has not been dying at all but 2019 specifically like he was saying 2019 was
- 1:08:50
a crazy year for rmb oh yeah into the pandemic with the year so r b had yeah so this for me
- 1:08:58
um um i'll get my old [ __ ] [ __ ] out the way
- 1:09:04
early brandy is a top r b release for me this year in hindsight good project sure was great and i'm not sure if i
- 1:09:10
felt like that at the time but in hindsight it's one of my fav one of the better r b albums this year
- 1:09:15
for me uh snow didn't come out this year but still salute to snow
- 1:09:20
tiana taylor's album just salutes the snow yeah just salute to snow because you already know the vibes
- 1:09:26
and it snowed yeah and it snowed i see you got the autograph choice over there come on man raise the living room
- 1:09:32
still
- 1:09:46
um what else what else for me tiana taylor yes yes really really really really
- 1:09:52
really good yes um 07-0 shake you're not it's not r
- 1:09:57
b but man another one yes yes and here's another one that i
- 1:10:03
don't see listed here uh i like victoria when they [ __ ] that was good but uh cleo soul r
- 1:10:11
d i'm not here what an album what what an album probably some of my
- 1:10:17
favorite r b songs on there that came out this year and just one of the better albums that have
- 1:10:23
dropped this year cleo soulful bad buddies r b man bad buddy no he's not oh he's not
- 1:10:28
he's definitely don't have a category for bad buddies
- 1:10:34
the goat the gold counter yes yes among others yeah yeah if you go on the
- 1:10:39
one side highest trend ever category yeah did you guys ever get into kirby sis ep
- 1:10:45
slash album that i think should be mentioned kirby says ep was crazy okay i know i do a podcast with this guy
- 1:10:51
twice a week and i have no idea who kirby sis is yeah tell me i played kirby sister b
- 1:10:56
kirby [Laughter]
- 1:11:24
secretly doing exactly the same [ __ ] they get their jokes off did nobody hear that yeah kirby says
- 1:11:30
it's really dominated her name is kirby this [ __ ] is called her name is not kirby sis
- 1:11:38
kirby wrote for rihanna usher mad people and now he's doing her own career she has an amazing i'm going to check
- 1:11:45
for kirby but we got to check out i ain't think that the year in like that i like that this is where i would learn
- 1:11:51
about her i played it on the progress uh on the podcast when it came out i can't wait to check it out no kirby is
- 1:11:57
fire her voice is super unique she's really dope she belongs on r b 2020 why all the uh chicks with the super
- 1:12:04
unique vocals are like the songwriters for everybody else that's a good question where they go to get the sauce from yeah yeah
- 1:12:11
that's a thing for me that's the thing like all the songwriters have super unique voices and then someone buys all their records
- 1:12:18
i feel like i want to mention reference and you're like wow they should have kept this for themselves yeah right about a thousand james sponsor
- 1:12:24
board references like yeah your voice sounds better on this yeah i feel like i want to mention her
- 1:12:29
in this conversation but i'm not but she didn't have like a problem but she put a lot of dope singles
- 1:12:35
but the grammys already did it right they're gonna find find her place on the grace even if
- 1:12:42
nothing come out facts shout out to jeff robinson yeah y'all loved it when janelle monae was doing it
- 1:12:48
right hey every year parks came in here like oh
- 1:12:53
janelle monae she's fired and she's gonna perform in a tuxedo
- 1:13:10
and it was a vagina dress
- 1:13:16
when she dressed
- 1:13:24
you [ __ ] stupid fans let people just be themselves let people be themselves she wants to
- 1:13:31
wear a suit just let her wear a suit she looks good in a suit she's fine that way off of rory's reference track
- 1:13:38
point i just want to make a suggestion i think that the reference track singers need to
- 1:13:43
start being acknowledged facts because i do they'd be better they just don't have the name yeah i do more like
- 1:13:49
the mixed engineers that put the extra better on them or the mixed engineers that are really the producer
- 1:13:54
that made the record way better right yeah you picked a sample bro but that engineer
- 1:14:01
i know the reference singer thing might kind of be akin to the ghost writer thing in hip-hop where you try to keep
- 1:14:07
that a secret a little bit but nah reference singers man just start snitching on these [ __ ]
- 1:14:13
not for nothing i knew start leaking issues i knew i knew keanu laday as a reference singer way before i knew her as an artist
- 1:14:20
writer she came out this year with one of the best r b albums of the year so that says something yeah okay uh and
- 1:14:27
i know we mentioned it when you were uh listing off all the albums bryce until the anniversary
- 1:14:32
i'm not saying it came and went i just don't think it got what it deserved yeah i'm with rory that was a really
- 1:14:38
good with rory on this tiller table i saw some hate and then i was late by
- 1:14:44
late i mean like a week after maybe is when i i listened to it and i was like wait what is my timeline
- 1:14:49
talking about this album is really [ __ ] good front to back i couldn't find a [ __ ] skip
- 1:14:54
that tiller album is that's the type of bryson tiller that we're asking for so what is there to hate of charlotte is
- 1:15:00
the killer we like i'm not mad at that i gotta circle back to a couple i'm with you on the tiller team that bryson taylor album is right yeah that
- 1:15:05
was a good album it was and i'm gonna shout out i wanna shout out uh uh sorrows on that tiller album is
- 1:15:12
probably one of my favorite r b songs to come out this year uh i also want to highlight uh justine
- 1:15:19
skye with that [ __ ] record that i love her girls
- 1:15:26
i've liked every picture of her since that album came out her might have one one of the best r b
- 1:15:32
songs this year with danny dammit that's one of the best armys it was on obama's uh
- 1:15:37
playlist it wasn't no but it wasn't i didn't see them it was no but it was on malls yeah first yeah where do you think
- 1:15:43
barack got it from exactly my bad for malcolm zelda oh i don't know if he falls in r b
- 1:15:51
but sort of with the saint john [ __ ] don toliver for 2021 yeah i hate to be like yo he's
- 1:15:57
next up and that's the guy 20 21 go ahead and do it he's gonna be that guy he's gonna be that guy in 2021
- 1:16:02
can't believe he did that wow can't believe he did it he fired him he's going to be great 2021 is going to be a dawn time
- 1:16:10
over a year i'm with you oh we're giving our 2021 predictions now i didn't plan on it but
- 1:16:15
we fell into it because he he was on a lot of great features this year time to check i've always
- 1:16:20
was that this year last year jack boys i thought it was the top of this year maybe wasn't takashi's release this year huh
- 1:16:26
yeah that was a big moment for me that was a big moment for me
- 1:16:31
a big moment for y'all and a big moment to all of the people that made bets with
- 1:16:37
me when he was in about how his career would go when he got out and and y'all won't talk to me
- 1:16:42
about it today now rory was one of those people i don't remember royce rory said that he
- 1:16:48
would be my take was that he will come out and be just fine start the whole i
- 1:16:53
ratted so what and the kids will still love him i think we all kind of thought that would be his
- 1:16:58
angle i read it so what well no i said it would work when it came out now would that be a career for
- 1:17:04
him no it didn't work but it didn't work it didn't work it worked no matter how we slice it it didn't work
- 1:17:09
it didn't work i don't want to make this the the takashi hate hour because i think that's cheap it shouldn't be stupid this is a big
- 1:17:15
part of the year but i will say i did appreciate that this did show the
- 1:17:22
world to some degree that the sensationalism the trolling
- 1:17:27
the only ig techniques finally we can prove we have tangible evidence that that does not equal
- 1:17:34
you being a great artist or someone that will sell there's just a cat i was so happy to see now i don't see the
- 1:17:40
downfall of anybody no matter what the lifestyle is that's not what i'm here for but i was so happy just to see that
- 1:17:46
trolling techniques finally in 2020 we can say they don't always equal to success they
- 1:17:53
only equal to moments and attention and attention is very [ __ ] cheap because we're gonna move on to the next moment
- 1:17:59
and the next thing we want to put attention to i was so happy to see that [ __ ] does not always equal
- 1:18:04
success in times where it appears that [ __ ] is going to equal success not only in music
- 1:18:09
but look at the turn on fox news and cnn and our president look at everything it looks like [ __ ]
- 1:18:14
is going to equal success and trolling is going to equal success and sensationalism is going to equal
- 1:18:20
success even though takashi is a small part of that i was happy to see that yeah all right he did get the most views ever on
- 1:18:27
youtube of someone coming out at some time because we all want to see the car accident yeah there's no longevity in
- 1:18:33
that yeah you're going to be chasing a moment every single time i remember reading my take was people are
- 1:18:41
trying to kill him so it's going to be expensive to move around
- 1:18:46
and it's going to take a whole lot for you to be able to make that worthwhile to somebody i don't think it'll be worth
- 1:18:53
the investment at some point that was my take verbatim and some people that shall remain nameless
- 1:18:59
counter that with yeah well a big part of what i thought would be his success was the touring and touring stopped with
- 1:19:07
quarantine guess what i don't care yeah i don't care every artist in the world has had to
- 1:19:13
figure out how to move around and navigate with all the new circumstances with whatever they
- 1:19:19
brought to the table if that involves snitching on gang culture or whatever it is then that just involves that but i don't think that the the the
- 1:19:26
stopping of touring is what did it for him yeah i think he put out put album out didn't
- 1:19:33
bring back the numbers that weren't moving around that way and he's been quiet ever since
- 1:19:39
his numbers weren't terrible no they were just terrible for in the scope of things it's terrible
- 1:19:44
for somebody that costs that much to move around once what do you do 50
- 1:19:52
he was also on record mad times clowning the [ __ ] that were doing 50 000 a
- 1:19:58
week yeah doing more than and some more i mean the bottom line is he lost a superpower which was
- 1:20:03
the support and the backing of hip-hop culture yeah you know i mean he didn't have that
- 1:20:08
look anymore he didn't have the streets behind him he didn't have that allure that energy
- 1:20:14
around him anymore and once he was stripped of that we just got what seemed like uh because they were going come out because the
- 1:20:19
people that were pro-hem before he got out were saying
- 1:20:25
hey it don't matter that he's snitched it don't matter what uh that culture really thinks of him
- 1:20:31
he's in middle america now he's big enough to where he can do anything and i was saying i
- 1:20:38
don't think that's true i don't think that's true at all i remember reading the article uh during the pandemic that
- 1:20:43
i think was rolling stone that broke down the statistics of music that was accelerating versus
- 1:20:48
music that was not doing well during the pandemic and it was mostly like acoustic music or like underground hip-hop music
- 1:20:55
stuff that's a little bit more like real life as opposed to sensationalized timeless soul music yeah replay value and i think that
- 1:21:01
actually connect with people like to the point actors in the point that maul made earlier in this episode with
- 1:21:07
the august alcena and will smith thing i think resonates with the takashi thing like yeah of course you going through a
- 1:21:14
federal case and snitching and going through this entire thing of yeah when you come out of jail we're
- 1:21:21
all gonna look right away yeah does that resonate into selling music no we're looking at the moment of all
- 1:21:29
right here's the rainbow-headed kid that wasn't a street kid that got caught up in a rico trial
- 1:21:34
snitched on everybody and came out and said yo i'm a [ __ ] rat [ __ ] y'all of course the whole world is gonna look
- 1:21:41
at that but now your rollout is becoming more important than the
- 1:21:46
music yeah and when the music suffers the sales will suffer yeah nobody was watching that takashi
- 1:21:52
video when he came out like i can't wait to hear what type of music he makes no we're looking at him with the the
- 1:21:57
[ __ ] star tenders painted up with the [ __ ] mouse emoji over his face
- 1:22:03
right that's what people were paying attention to i'm not gonna go buy his album i'm gonna [ __ ] with music he makes your rollout is more important than your
- 1:22:10
music and the music better be [ __ ] the music better be fire i left the chatting on stage just yesterday
- 1:22:16
when i saw one of them takashits takashi i said your fan and wait is
- 1:22:23
way am i understand man he'll give me the [ __ ] off this stage that's [ __ ] no siree bob not the
- 1:22:30
takashita no i remember the wigs and [ __ ] nah i remember hey i saw your face under the red wig i know
- 1:22:37
he was i remember you've given me patrons straight before i know you i remember sitting at that piano too i didn't forget about that the what akon sitting
- 1:22:44
at that piano that was clown [ __ ] yeah that was clown [ __ ] and then and then akon got on uh y'all hayden on the
- 1:22:50
locked up remix get it no they both were locked up no
- 1:22:56
no all right uh they were trying to get out i don't get oh no yeah i didn't do the science there no
- 1:23:01
and then and then akon got and went on that whole press run and i listen i didn't check the stats but i do
- 1:23:07
just have a brain he was like well everyone knows that 95 of the people that are locked up right
- 1:23:12
now are snitches i'm like i don't think that adds up i think that's how it works 95
- 1:23:26
like that was his whole presence like why y'all mad at takashi 95 i'm not a street dude but that just seems off yeah no that wasn't a good i'm not a
- 1:23:32
street dude or a mathematician but i do have a brain you just know that acon didn't belong in
- 1:23:38
the studio with takashi just leave it at that that's it yeah yes yeah i'll take that
- 1:23:44
yeah uh where do y'all want to go next top what of the year producers
- 1:23:49
producers yeah i'm with producers producers park parks had a good list we
- 1:23:55
was talking off mike i was and i think the first two are probably interchangeable to a lot of people i like greg
- 1:24:01
alchemist hit boy uh who'd have turned brock marcy third uh i
- 1:24:07
had 38 special fourth and i had 808 mellow fifth 808 mello did
- 1:24:12
a lot of pop smoke stuff 504 and that was last year but he introduced a sound that expanded this
- 1:24:19
year yeah so he's got to be there to me to me yeah um hit boy hit boy you i mean come
- 1:24:26
on yeah uh alchemist um royce has got to be at honorable mention which is again crazy for the first year
- 1:24:33
of producing yeah royce for sure uh fallen he did a lot of um he did a lot of st john stuff i think
- 1:24:40
he's he's a producer that i think a lot of people in 2021 are going to run to never thought you would say that yeah yeah he fallen as dope
- 1:24:47
um 38 special darren derringer yeah uh do you hear these two old favorites who
- 1:24:54
you got joe i just want to know if you can hear them the uh i'm doing the same thing they're
- 1:25:00
doing listen trey button really got got his [ __ ] off this year man set this my mom in the kitchen look that
- 1:25:06
up scream man i don't want to say his name incorrectly but he did a lot of the the baby [ __ ] he did the baby
- 1:25:12
rich record jetson no but jetson did a bunch of [ __ ] too seth in the kitchen i want to say his name is this is why i said we should
- 1:25:18
have prepared and you guys laughed me out the room we're gonna use that term again when i said hey maybe
- 1:25:23
maybe we should prepare for this seth in the kitchen come on six
- 1:25:28
nightmare hot this is 20 20. um seth in the kitchen kill [ __ ] this year with the
- 1:25:34
poppy [ __ ] come on who did all the posts album give it to us he did broken by joe so he knows
- 1:25:41
who i can't remember his name uh post is last year anyway yeah
- 1:25:48
yeah listen it's hip away from me yeah i think reasonable i don't i don't have a long list it was
- 1:25:54
it was hit boy even when i wasn't trying to find out who it was he just kept smacking me in
- 1:26:00
the face the entire year with just different [ __ ] i love the benny joint yeah i love the nose joint
- 1:26:07
i love what he did with sean uh if i'm not mistaken i think i might be privy to some more [ __ ] he has coming
- 1:26:14
like it just don't seem like he's stopping no time soon oh hit maker i mean burger's gonna
- 1:26:20
yeah burg another another year who else we friends with i think i think
- 1:26:28
dope [ __ ] i think this year and probably like the last three or four since we're not going to
- 1:26:33
get into name names on this the idea of the in-house producer like if you go look at the
- 1:26:38
credits of an album and you see a majority of a name you don't recognize but they're on 95
- 1:26:44
of the album yeah has kind of came back like i don't know much about uzi and how he creates music but i went
- 1:26:51
to the credits and i saw the same few names every single time yeah like it's not the super producer still exists of
- 1:26:57
course but i kind of love that people have their own little camps and inside [ __ ] where it's like you know he's gonna be on every single
- 1:27:03
record i only make music with this guy and i'll send it out to a metro boomin to work on the drums yeah send it right back
- 1:27:09
yeah like the in-house [ __ ] i like that or i got a better album but i needed a bridge or i needed you
- 1:27:15
know something else in the chorus the in-house producer i i think the albums are better in that way than it's let me go
- 1:27:22
to metro head and mad lib too but i mean i expect both of them to just yeah yeah metro had another metro yeah
- 1:27:28
that's what i'm saying like we don't talk about it he just does it he's quiet here but he did it that could
- 1:27:34
how would go from you doing that much and it's still quietly right consistency like metro just here the 21 savage album
- 1:27:41
was great it was great yeah it was great um pardon my naivete or my ignorance
- 1:27:47
here this might be a mistake [ __ ] these [ __ ] i'll take you yeah
- 1:27:52
for sure this this might be a little ignorant of me all of the all of the producers that
- 1:27:58
contributed to the good drill i appreciate y'all now i'm
- 1:28:04
not so sure i'm not so aware so i don't know who all these people are but man y'all are
- 1:28:12
[ __ ] geniuses man a lot of that is in-house like they man's in them but what i'm saying is
- 1:28:17
like my introduction to drill is maybe my first drill record i heard and liked a lot i said
- 1:28:23
oh this is hard they can't keep doing that and i've kept i kept saying that yeah just say axel
- 1:28:30
yeah yeah anyway mellow too 808 million oh super mario body this year meant to add that fam all of y'all
- 1:28:38
i love all of it i love the london [ __ ] i love the chicago [ __ ] i love the new york [ __ ]
- 1:28:45
i'm conflicted because of what it may mean for us but creatively and just musically
- 1:28:52
sonically all of y'all who did the good drill
- 1:28:57
piece up eight town down yeah yes that that's how you want to end that
- 1:29:03
segment that was the stamp you put on drill heads up eight town down
- 1:29:13
i just said that 15 years ago um yeah that's what i got that's what i got for
- 1:29:18
uh producers i like it and apologies to everyone that's going to be upset for
- 1:29:24
sure said we didn't mention this it's going to happen yeah and like you know how y'all not know this why do you have this platform and you didn't know about
- 1:29:30
this guy that did it i didn't ask them i think this should be the grandmothers really well that's what they forget i did not
- 1:29:36
know that this would [ __ ] change at all i didn't know this was it i was sitting across from marissa and joe
- 1:29:45
you were the best producers of 2020 yeah and then you would be listening
- 1:29:50
hey i told you what do you all think dm it to me yeah i think that this should be the grammy zone where we just say a bunch of
- 1:29:56
names and no definitive answers yeah these are the potty these people are wrong
- 1:30:02
thanks for showing up well no i mean do you all want to get into maybe who you may have been disappointed
- 1:30:08
with this year sure yeah listen to grievances no i don't know bless the grace
- 1:30:14
i'll take it's the next level ty dolla damn okay i think a lot of people i was
- 1:30:21
like i was very very disappointed i was ex extremely anticipating that featuring
- 1:30:28
ty dollar album i loved the title i said oh everybody the name of the title is
- 1:30:34
is on yeah yeah and it was gone i i felt like i got what what are the
- 1:30:40
chicks doing now the photo dump i felt like i got a hard drive dump from todd alexander
- 1:30:46
it was like and of course it's great and of course
- 1:30:52
those those women look good every photo is going to be dope right you look good right i didn't need all 25
- 1:30:59
of these i i need like your best your best 12. and that rumor that joe
- 1:31:06
started if there is the real toddler album and he just had to get this off to get out of some contractual [ __ ] or he
- 1:31:12
was just doing this i'm still i still have faith tata to me is still one of the greatest artists of our generation
- 1:31:17
one of my favorite ever but i was very disappointed this year all right and guess what guess what it
- 1:31:23
doesn't matter tai you're gonna be fine without my opinion all right since rory is shooting the
- 1:31:28
baseline three again with ease i'm a follow-up man to say something that's gonna hurt my heart
- 1:31:35
say something i shouldn't say cause i have an amazing relationship this person's person one of my favorite
- 1:31:41
people in the music business so this hurts me more than it's gonna hurt them charlemagne no no rory
- 1:31:50
academics i was tight at ro james i was that one that one hurt me okay
- 1:31:57
not that it wasn't good right but we talked but it's not what i waited four years
- 1:32:02
for but i think we talked about that and i keep talking about the [ __ ] that make you wait four
- 1:32:08
five six years and then what that comes with like and row is somebody i told all
- 1:32:14
through the four years yo where's that we waiting like give it to us greatness take time i get to
- 1:32:20
understand all that but the time i waited for what i received
- 1:32:26
for what i know his talent to be not acceptable for me not acceptable for
- 1:32:33
me bro you know i love you but i mean i'll call you and tell you this before this comes out
- 1:32:39
of course of course with the consumers yeah you only care about what the final product is not what was happening behind
- 1:32:45
the scenes but like yeah roe was going through management changes [ __ ] that's it like i even saw that with
- 1:32:51
they this year with their project that i'll snitch it was old it was on an old it was from
- 1:32:57
a different label trying to get them off that label and still put out that great music but it was dated i have a whole
- 1:33:03
[ __ ] they album in my phone before this one dropped right they were going through a lot of
- 1:33:08
[ __ ] like they were sitting on music it was like let's just get this out so i can move the [ __ ] on even though it's good it's still not the
- 1:33:15
way you want to present yourself sometimes i feel wrong with that like bro went through a bunch of [ __ ]
- 1:33:20
and because you're a fan he waited four years like all right let me feed my fans at least because they want to hear something
- 1:33:26
i have these records no if y'all don't give a [ __ ] about the music not talking about bro but if y'all the artists are not giving
- 1:33:32
a [ __ ] about the music then find a way to tell me that's not what i'm saying at all just you're trying you're not gonna put
- 1:33:38
your best foot forward if you are making music that is based on
- 1:33:44
something else like trying to get out of a deal or some [ __ ] tell me man yeah tell me that's the
- 1:33:50
reason i'm gonna still ride with you as a fan but you but you understand that because you're a very savvy
- 1:33:55
consumer outside of you have been an artist like imagine ro james saying to his fans that literally just
- 1:34:03
our fans like they drive to work and listen to rhode james that's what they sit with their girl or their dude
- 1:34:09
and listen to ro james hey man i'm going through label problems and management problems and this is [ __ ] like they're gonna be like i don't
- 1:34:15
know what you're talking about yeah i just i listen to music on an app in my phone and i happen to
- 1:34:20
like you right like they're not i've never expected artists to try to explain that to
- 1:34:25
the casual fan and a majority of your fans are casual fans they're not savvy fans yeah so yeah i like even when when they
- 1:34:34
was putting out their album we're having that conversation i'm like the fans they want music they're not gonna listen to yo he was trying to get off warner and
- 1:34:39
now we're going over to island and it's been a [ __ ] nightmare to try to get this and this has been sitting here on a hard drive like
- 1:34:45
i we just want to give you this music they don't know they don't give a [ __ ] actually the more i sit here and think
- 1:34:50
about it so we should move on i have a long list of you [ __ ] that i'm a little surprised or mad at like i was a little
- 1:34:57
disappointed in big show big sean okay that's reasonable i was a little disappointed in that um only
- 1:35:03
because we know what the first detroit album was yeah my favorite showing project ever yeah
- 1:35:09
when we got when we found out detroit two was coming i think my expectations were a little higher and um i don't think the
- 1:35:16
album met those expectations i'm just being honest i love big sean but this album wasn't what i thought it
- 1:35:22
would be i agree give it i'm with you i had the same sentiment when i
- 1:35:28
i'm repeating myself from 30 minutes ago give the show an album like six months and go back to it i have a
- 1:35:34
really strange uh grievance because this album is both my one of my favorite albums and one of my most disappointing albums and
- 1:35:40
that was the nas and hitmon that was my favorite rapper ever and he did a very good job in the album
- 1:35:46
but he didn't take me to where he i know that nas can take us oh but [ __ ] [Laughter]
- 1:35:54
oh man
- 1:36:02
because i really enjoyed the album i love the content you gave us everything when i hear like the swiss song from last year it's like that that
- 1:36:09
nas is like a different park he never gave me so underground that he hates when the greats give us music
- 1:36:17
because they're no longer underground he hated jay giving us the most introspective uh mature
- 1:36:22
uh kendrick who has not missed he may have a higher percentage than any rapper ever
- 1:36:29
as far as uh discography goes at the at the moment i hated that high standards finally gave us a cool album after we
- 1:36:37
didn't like lost tapes 2 and the the kanye won parks unless you underground unless you ran
- 1:36:44
i mean okay listen man it's a weird like i said it's a weird space because it's one of my top 10
- 1:36:50
albums of the year but at the same time it's like i want nas to like really give us that not that [ __ ] so you should
- 1:36:56
talk to your buddy you know that guy your car you find the premium i like to do an album i like i like several songs like i said it's
- 1:37:03
one of my top 10 albums of the year but at the same time he didn't take me you never rode in car 95 that's true
- 1:37:10
i didn't know oh so y'all not going i mean oh yeah call from the bridge that's cool that
- 1:37:15
was your taxi service um best features
- 1:37:22
uh yeah i got a little list a couple i got a little list here nipsey on sean album would have told me
- 1:37:27
i have nipsy on big show on deep reverence as my number one um i have hove on jay elect universal
- 1:37:33
soldiers is number two i have wayne on benny timeless number three i have gibbs on west side 500 ounces as
- 1:37:39
number four and i have vince staples on body surf and turf as my number five
- 1:37:46
interesting well damn all right maul what you got
- 1:37:53
i like that um i actually like this i like this drake uh feature on young um young blues on record your mind still
- 1:37:59
bring drake to the hood i think so now by the way we gotta throw dirks surrounding me
- 1:38:05
drinks with drinks dirk's featured on laugh now cry later it was great even though i got a case yeah yeah but
- 1:38:11
i'm gonna do what it takes but it is hilarious to to sit like try to sing let's bring drake to the hood yeah uh
- 1:38:19
conway and juicy i got dirt come on the firm was must i know it's not a single artist but
- 1:38:25
it's hearing from the year wow i
- 1:38:40
uh i know it's a kind of a collaborative song whatever but megan [ __ ] that was a
- 1:38:47
the biggest song of the year probably you hear them you guys whatever we gotta move no i agree with you i just
- 1:38:53
want to get them to clown you oh okay uh parks was the first one to mention wow hey whatever
- 1:39:00
park you gotta balance balance is one of the better collabs this year it's probably the biggest song of the year
- 1:39:05
yeah i don't give a [ __ ] probably judge me y'all judged me in parks for saying cardi had album of the
- 1:39:11
year two years ago and we're back with a [ __ ] tape of the year um y'all gonna kill me but
- 1:39:18
future on uh the roses remix saint john future's uh i love madison yeah that feature was
- 1:39:23
kendrick on buses album was fire look over your shoulder he loves this record i don't know why he looking like that yeah
- 1:39:31
but it is though it was a hard [ __ ] feature listen it's great music you want me to do that
- 1:39:38
42-22 we paid was great oh you're so hip you're in touch with
- 1:39:44
the youth understand now you know you went google the youth pick that is
- 1:39:58
hey tommy what are they playing at school wait what that's racist why my little cousin named after tom
- 1:40:06
thomas all right what happened fb why my little name can't be andre
- 1:40:12
it could be that'll be thomas that would be appropriation that's not beyond y'all
- 1:40:18
all right all right would you say what
- 1:40:29
[Applause] summer walker what's up yeah what's up what's up
- 1:40:40
you didn't expect her to be uh what do you think about michael p jordan featuring in the snow
- 1:40:45
[Music] i don't like that ain't like
- 1:40:51

- 1:40:58
nature i'm sorry az they all killed the language you like janae on body language he wasn't filling that one
- 1:41:05
i'm just asking a question man so a z on uh az on the nas joint uh dirk on
- 1:41:13
everything dirk dirk on everything for me on the feature tip mm-hmm
- 1:41:19
i'm so in touch with the youth listen i you know what's funny i don't feel i don't connect with dirk
- 1:41:25
on my trying to be youthful [ __ ] i like the melodies yeah and yeah but i had to [ __ ]
- 1:41:32
defend myself because i was self-conscious listen uh this isn't a category but but
- 1:41:39
sweetie oh yeah sweetie goes to sweden sweetie of the year just sweetie that's
- 1:41:45
just that's just what i gotta say yeah yeah come on man come on who else yeah
- 1:41:51
like sweetie just featured on life she was well like really well versed in in life this year
- 1:41:56
yeah she'd be like visuals of the year sweetie to sweetie wins wifey of the year i
- 1:42:03
think um i think mulatto wins uncancible of the
- 1:42:08
year like boy did they try yeah yeah like how did she beat harvey weinstein
- 1:42:15
with like the power structure there i'm a lot of one we got to get into the who got canceled
- 1:42:21
and really didn't get cancelled was there a big thing with trying to cancel them a lot for like
- 1:42:27
24 hours yeah they wait cancer they were trying to camp they were trying to cancel her because
- 1:42:32
she said yo man i think i'm gonna change my name man it was offending some people yeah and then they got mad at her for
- 1:42:38
considering he said hey i think this might be wrong ready yeah yeah i'm i'm sorry if i'm giving an
- 1:42:45
uncancelable award to somebody who's going to jt from city girls man your tweets have been a
- 1:42:51
mess some old tweets i don't know how you got from my partner some of them chicks
- 1:42:58
yeah and you addressed them not the best way either yeah i said them [ __ ] that's the best
- 1:43:04
way to do it y'all keep digging them up but yeah she went crazy on the old tweets but we love jt so it didn't
- 1:43:10
matter and she looks great salute to jt yeah glad that you were unable to be canceled women again
- 1:43:15
2019 we talked about it 20 20 women conor ram rap again they did pretty yeah they were up this
- 1:43:20
year again yeah they're out there now they killed it again yeah no it's just not leaving yeah
- 1:43:29
underground in overground shane were amazing the flow milly was amazing
- 1:43:35
slow billy sweetie flo milly yeah the women rico nasty be uh but the grammys tonight have
- 1:43:41
mentioned any of the women is really blasphemous and be that yeah
- 1:43:46
and be done grannies and beta are kind of wild if there's something wrong in the culture
- 1:43:54
sorry peter i love you i'm joking be my guy anyways meg should be on
- 1:44:01
something besides do say palooza this year
- 1:44:07
that was the only one about him
- 1:44:16
they came for your neck too we gotta give you a little before hey they tried me they tried to cancel the
- 1:44:23
boy don't try to get caught
- 1:44:30
it was only by the grace of god and by my dick that y'all couldn't do [ __ ] with a big
- 1:44:36
stepper you heard the things the [ __ ] is wrong with you you're so old now for 20 i don't know
- 1:44:42
what i actually feel like we shouldn't edit anything why are we editing
- 1:44:50
i humbly admit that you [ __ ] can't stop nothing don't bring that clip up no no no i'm
- 1:44:57
joking i'm joking i'm joking but they did they did try to get me out the paint for a little bit they did they tried to get drew brees out of here too
- 1:45:03
and uh no he's out of the sack of [ __ ] i forgot he was a real sack of [ __ ] what
- 1:45:08
he did out of there what do you think he gave out mega hats to his daughter stopping kneeling
- 1:45:17
yeah neil you son of a [ __ ] stand up stand for the [ __ ] stand up for this great flag of this nation
- 1:45:25
sorry you guys all of us stop the kneeling quarterbacks tom drew like they fell off y'all gotta
- 1:45:32
deal with paddy now yeah yeah and the kneeling [ __ ] fail and you're awesome and your
- 1:45:38
offensive line is black so they're just moving out of the way didn't fight in world war ii we got dead that now yeah
- 1:45:45
y'all tried to get kanye out of here this year too they tried they've been trying that for a couple years yeah kanye's still here
- 1:45:53
he's still here we tried to get still all the quiet money still here no you got to pay the choir you got to
- 1:45:59
pay them i'm about to say you can't cancel him because he's too valuable and he's worth too much but you got to pay the choir yeah pay
- 1:46:05
the quieter that song well i mean virgil will give them 50 dollars that was another moment ellen might be the
- 1:46:12
the person that got cancer you're not canceling out you can't cancel out well she canceled herself she's gay and dances and [ __ ] i love
- 1:46:19
ellen but well you're part of the problem am i i might be you don't care even though
- 1:46:24
they say she was being a meanie no you know cancer culture has gotten
- 1:46:29
really funny like that where it's like now she's mean man we gotta get her out of here okay no cancel cancer is a tough boss
- 1:46:36
cancel culture not just in 2020 of course it led up became its own genre of entertainment so no no no one
- 1:46:43
was really canceled but it just became a form of what's going to entertain us for the moment yeah it'd just be the next person
- 1:46:49
cancer just means it's just a form of entertainment next three weeks people just want to sit there and feel more awesome about themselves
- 1:46:55
because no one else has figured out what's wrong with you in your life that's
- 1:47:00
all it is yeah it's like wait till true unless you was popular we found about your nasty [ __ ] cancel culture and gotcha culture like
- 1:47:06
the oh you said last week that blah blah blah so now this is you changed my mind and i'm not racist
- 1:47:12
anymore there you go it's that simple it's that simple people change every day i feel like they
- 1:47:20
keep trying to cancel steve harvey but i can't figure out why but like y'all not gonna yeah he's bulletproof
- 1:47:26
stuff no we just don't appreciate sleeping man for them uh that wig he was wearing oprah's another
- 1:47:34
one unless i find out steve harvey's mustache is fake he good in my book yeah nah we thought steve we thought
- 1:47:40
that flat top was real it's all right it's kind of swag it wasn't man that [ __ ] was a box
- 1:47:47
i feel like there's a big
- 1:48:02
way great talk about female i guess she's a rapper yeah great year she did have a great year i
- 1:48:08
know it's dogecat you're not allowed to say that because it's not cool no i'm taking your word i don't know you're putting me on right now i mean
- 1:48:13
did you walk into a macy's i'm sure her song was playing i did not walk into any department store ever
- 1:48:19
i'm sure her record was playing it wasn't playing in berto torrey they tried to cancel tori this year i
- 1:48:24
know that was corny huh tory yeah your little plan didn't
- 1:48:30
work [ __ ] yeah that was you meeting up with the guys nah hey y'all
- 1:48:35
he's putting out a capsule stop this okay cats
- 1:48:42
it was the year of the castle though no doubt whether it was my fiber
- 1:48:50
young boys he's putting out capsules in this now can someone tell me what a capsule is a
- 1:48:57
capsule it's something that's encapsulated in this moment of time every time you look at it you think of
- 1:49:02
that moment so no longer do mixtapes exist or they're fir you could put out seven projects your first album come on
- 1:49:10
so when can my first capsule come out how many albums can i do in absolutely if you're gonna give me all
- 1:49:16
my captions every last one of them yeah
- 1:49:22
your [ __ ] scoundrels scouting trolls is [ __ ] hilarious
- 1:49:40
just a loose quarter it's [ __ ] hilarious give me my mixtape masters [ __ ] all right what else is happening
- 1:49:49
well we didn't really talk about tori isn't my disappointment not for the obvious of allegedly shooting a woman that's of
- 1:49:55
course disappointing but going we've talked about the biggest falls in hip-hop history
- 1:50:00
yeah that three weeks of being the number one quarantine creator period
- 1:50:06
yeah to then allegedly shooting a woman is one of the most popular women one of the most
- 1:50:12
popular women in the internet rookie of the year rookie of the year
- 1:50:19
this is when i get into my parks mall bag
- 1:50:24
i would mention ransom here he's not a rookie at all proof not a rookie at all uh and i can see that he's he's always
- 1:50:31
been super nice but he's like the nicest this year was the the best he had the time connected with you
- 1:50:37
different this year and i don't know why he's always been nice to me he went crazy this year though he had the time
- 1:50:42
to finally focus on music maybe something he had some other things probably 38 special is not a rookie
- 1:50:49
either just did rand get married this year last year last year i don't know or not this year yeah that that helped
- 1:50:56
that helps do you think that's what my parks got engaged because ryan listen if he did i got to
- 1:51:03
do it i did it for hold according to the internet that's true that's true my dad's ready
- 1:51:09
and joe i'm going with stove got here man there's no suspense here for me like he did it
- 1:51:16
came out of nowhere i'm gonna go up somewhere being upstate new york shout out to upstate new york crusher
- 1:51:22
rochester did he do something in 2019 he might have been in the future he's done something in 2019 that made me feel
- 1:51:29
like all right let me see the type of year he has in 2020 and he did it he did it i loved all your [ __ ] you
- 1:51:37
[ __ ] killed yeah you killed at a time where i was purposely going out of my way to avoid
- 1:51:43
new rappers yeah like he crushed yeah a breath of fresh air yeah
- 1:51:50
uh really rejuvenated things i'm gonna go uh my rook of the years is giving on uh
- 1:51:56
outside of his actual project having one of the better records with the heartbreak anniversary joint
- 1:52:01
and having a drake feature i think is quite the year for a rookie fair so yeah i got i got giving on as my
- 1:52:07
rookie to you is candle the day uh a rookie i don't think so but i guess i guess by
- 1:52:14
artists she's not a rookie to me at all but what up i get why she could be in that
- 1:52:20
category yeah um i'm gonna go with uh stove god yeah well that's my rookie to you yeah
- 1:52:28
i was gonna say you think
- 1:52:36
rookie saint was like a ben simmons rookie right no like sat out
- 1:52:41
he was rich red shirt yeah i kind of feel like maybe chance or her
- 1:52:48
could be rookie of the year davies [Music] [Laughter]
- 1:52:55
charlemagne come back
- 1:53:02
[Laughter]
- 1:53:10
a great picks for yeah give me on too yeah yeah yeah i think r b and rap those those are really really
- 1:53:16
good things i feel like i should have shattered division out in our r b topic but i didn't i
- 1:53:21
i got two text messages that we forgot in our r b grammy talk and then i was
- 1:53:27
like oh [ __ ] he was right i should have said that and then both of the guys from division i forgot again it was like yo you forgot again bro
- 1:53:34
yeah hey i had you at number four in my r b of the year albums division you're done good man
- 1:53:40
yeah you're done good you're done good okay uh so what we do we did producers we did
- 1:53:45
guest features yeah uh we did new artists of the year
- 1:53:52
let's do most improved all right said mine ran ran ranges um
- 1:53:59
tell us why because he was always nice and he has not really been active for a very
- 1:54:05
long time for you know whatever personal reasons and this year he put out five amazing projects
- 1:54:13
yeah it's a lot of problems what you got buddy come on maul give it to him think about it
- 1:54:20
um jay look jay like rookie of the year too
- 1:54:26
listen you gave us two tails right here what do you all want to say to them you did those albums were good yeah albums jay
- 1:54:33
like oh no i'm not written testimony and the one that was leaked sort of i was really really good at a
- 1:54:39
lot written testimony and i didn't write this testimony or i wrote it and i've kept it on my
- 1:54:44
hard drive testimony for ten years hard drive i'm joking with golden j like a rookie right yes of course okay but i do think jay
- 1:54:51
like had a really withdrawal no i don't know the rules have changed man i mean if you think about someone that
- 1:54:56
influenced all the rookies uh kick cutter yeah probably kick cuddy but no i think j like did have a good
- 1:55:02
influence of the year kid cuddy you have ransom as your most improved team i don't know who my most improved
- 1:55:08
is i'm gonna steal yours so you can go first i'm going with russ yeah i am too not that rush wasn't great
- 1:55:14
before yeah how about so you gotta explain that because he was good not that russ wasn't great or
- 1:55:19
good before but again i'm picking people i think really stepped into themselves more this year
- 1:55:27
and i think russ did that russ really put himself with the rappiness of the rappers
- 1:55:34
and not only performed with them but made the right song with them and that's a really hard
- 1:55:42
task as an artist that sells the way that russ does so i want to highlight russ i think
- 1:55:49
you've done a tremendous job at uh changing the minds of some of your uh distractors your naysayers
- 1:55:57
uh people that just weren't rooting for you um i remember two years ago you being one
- 1:56:03
of the more hated rappers so to see what you've done in two years like with the business the
- 1:56:11
brand and the music how could i not yeah how could i not um i'm gonna go with i'm
- 1:56:18
gonna go with jim jim jones i think jim was a he was already a good artist i think he was
- 1:56:24
already a dope rapper but this year i think jim he took it to another level
- 1:56:29
his album was one of my favorite albums this year yeah that was this year right yeah you know which one which i was last year oh well
- 1:56:36
chapel el chapo i mean there's a lot of delicious yeah oh yeah all right but it's a new album um but i'm gonna go with jim okay
- 1:56:42
i think jim uh really really improved his song making um
- 1:56:47
i think he he made it he made a point to really like put himself out there more as an artist
- 1:56:53
this year and show people exactly how dope he is so i do want to double back on that jay electronics take because it
- 1:56:58
it is important to highlight the fact that he finally put some [ __ ] out came out yeah yes that's a big deal because a lot of
- 1:57:04
people get hung up on just putting out their first [ __ ] waiting for it to be perfect getting the perfect features whatever it may be
- 1:57:10
and he did it and he executed his grammy nominated we had to salute him and that's another album that i think
- 1:57:17
y'all should go back to having not listened to it after a while like get rid of the
- 1:57:22
yes this is a collab album was the greatest rapper of all time yes i haven't put music out in 10 years
- 1:57:28
once you get away from that hype and go back to that album and really listen to it some [ __ ] on
- 1:57:34
there no no and the one that leaked uh screen man if you can find the actual title of that
- 1:57:40
that was a really good album that i wish we would have gotten in 2010 uh yeah yeah act two no written
- 1:57:46
testimonials was the jz1 screen yeah yeah i really loved acting act 2 was was
- 1:57:51
really really good and it was a leak in the middle of a pandemic so not many people
- 1:57:57
listened or got the hype around it but yeah jay elect quietly had an amazing year yeah and not
- 1:58:03
so quietly at the same time yeah i really he had two good albums so i have to put him somewhere
- 1:58:08
yeah and here's a good place i will go back and listen to uh the first one yeah i think you should
- 1:58:13
and did you ever get into activity that running hot [ __ ] with the bullets
- 1:58:19
um i do i do want to note and this is going to cut my political ties i'm going to go out on a ledge
- 1:58:26
one of the worst attempts at a rollout ever what who is the lead singer of the
- 1:58:32
bullets because that running hide record on j electronics album featuring the bullets is phenomenal that whole get on ig live with everyone
- 1:58:39
from roc nation to talk about a backpack and have hove talk in the background oh was that what that was the worst
- 1:58:45
attempts at a rolled out i have no information behind it i remember that i remember that and this
- 1:58:50
is offending all my political uh connects but that was bad y'all buried that role out because it didn't
- 1:58:56
work you had every last higher up yeah yeah on ig live with this gentleman about
- 1:59:02
trying to find a backpack from a grammy party five years ago to roll something out and it didn't work yeah that was weird and back to my point
- 1:59:08
of where trolling i was happy this year trolling does not equal success
- 1:59:14
power and popular people and legends doesn't always
- 1:59:19
necessarily mean success and attention either i like it authenticity
- 1:59:26
good music success yeah i like it so good music i love that for you
- 1:59:33
i've been on clubhouse waiting to do that i just do um what else do we have that
- 1:59:41
is super important here um what do our favorite versus scissors is
- 1:59:47
let's let's be quick because we did a lot of verses but yeah let's let's let's go through our favorites since we're in the list all right we're
- 1:59:53
back at list versus where's supreme come on man that's my favorite
- 1:59:59
you don't say awesome um well shout out to parks for fixing the
- 2:00:04
audio of all the verses this year nba shout out to me out so speaking back to the corporate companies doing
- 2:00:09
whatever they can and nba young boy most streamed rapper never gets brought up on any list i know that was super random but
- 2:00:15
all our lists we've talked about nba young boy never gets brought up and he's one of the most stream rappers period but go ahead yeah without a doubt
- 2:00:22
it's weird that he's not on any list agreed uh my favorite verses
- 2:00:28
um i'll slim it down to uh and these might be two unpopular
- 2:00:34
picks but neo jonta austin yeah was one of my favorites just because of their pens
- 2:00:41
um along with uh what's my other one teddy riley baby face
- 2:00:47
part one answer yeah part one part one might have been a better one somehow two was uh great for me
- 2:00:54
um and those are my two if i have to pick they've all been enjoyable jadakiss was one of the most uh funny
- 2:01:00
characters on a reverses and just a performance straight through like kiss ain't miss a record yeah
- 2:01:08
yeah but as far as characters i'm going jadakiss sean garrett e40 dmx
- 2:01:15
and snoop i have yeah erica by doing joe scott might have been my favorite i think snoop and dmx is my
- 2:01:22
second favorite okay yeah for the ladies i can dig it i can do it
- 2:01:27
and for the people that are in tune with himself yes just not gender specific you're fluent i got it um
- 2:01:38
about bounty killer beanie man that was great kind of changed the whole versus thing where it doesn't have to be just a battle back
- 2:01:45
and forth like we could just jam out party that kind of changed the trajectory was the first in person one
- 2:01:51
two yeah it might have been yeah yeah it was fun and that was kind of the first gz versus
- 2:01:58
gucci man like these i mean granted they had made up prior to that but nice to see two people
- 2:02:05
that had an issue with each other be in the same place same to a way lesser degree with brandy and monica
- 2:02:10
that was one of my biggest moments of year two i don't know if i brought it up in in the biggest moments but that
- 2:02:16
watching jeezy and gucci be face to face and yeah history yeah that was a big that was that was
- 2:02:23
actually bigger than versus that was yeah way bigger than right yeah yeah no it's true and uh dan it was one more thing in
- 2:02:29
verses oh uh swiss and timberland for them to not only be the first the first battle um but to still be one
- 2:02:38
of the better battles after being the first one after being the people to put all this on after being the people that kind of
- 2:02:43
facilitate through some of these matchups i really enjoyed their battle and they went on for hours
- 2:02:48
swiss was in a car he got kicked out of his house went in the car to get busy
- 2:02:54
like that was really good getting kicked out of a mansion for playing music is hilarious yeah and anne and burns and versus uh what
- 2:03:02
we've seen is whoever has the mariah carey catalog wins whoever worked with hove wins
- 2:03:08
in timberland versus swiss you saw tim go to his whole catalog and then swiss match it with the old
- 2:03:15
catalog like i just thought it was real good to see versus gave me a lot of [ __ ] that i just never thought i would see
- 2:03:20
patti labelle versus uh gladys knight like like man it's really been one of the
- 2:03:26
bright spots of the year i know you guys think this is an ad it is not versus has not paid us this entire year
- 2:03:32
versus pay us for the entire year um premium original was one of the favorites to me yeah
- 2:03:38
anything preem is in is a favorite of mine that's home team that's family that's gang gang gang those are the two people that
- 2:03:45
made me make music so that was my favorite and one of them happens to be a very good friend of mine
- 2:03:51
so that's my friend
- 2:03:56
shout out the prem shout out to preen man uh let's see we did features oh bingeables
- 2:04:03
shows shows come on let's do it come on you guys it was kind of a good year on the low
- 2:04:09
for bingeables it didn't feel like it for a while because there was a drought in the last couple months yeah it was like a two three month stretch where it was
- 2:04:14
getting a little dry yeah tiger king ruled the first half of the year legend yeah
- 2:04:21
he's a legend yeah it's a fact that was kind of wild because there was so much to unpack during that bingeable [ __ ]
- 2:04:29
outside of the animal's murder screaming can you just put it impossible screaming possible sex slaves yeah i
- 2:04:35
don't need to see the team
- 2:04:43
what made the bingeables more important during quarantine you needed mad elements to it like when i went through tiger king outside of cute adorable
- 2:04:50
tigers yeah you had murder you had beef you had possible cocaine sex cocaine
- 2:04:57
involved i think or meth one of them uh you had gay people you had every last thing that you
- 2:05:02
would need in a uh bingeable series to talk about with anyone on the phone zoom or people you
- 2:05:10
were living with yeah that [ __ ] was nuts yeah it was crazy and i still think yo free free joe uh what's
- 2:05:16
his name joe joe blow joe blow joe tiger joe exotic joe exotic
- 2:05:22
yeah your alter ego exotic and arrest carol baskins
- 2:05:29
for real she did it did it she definitely did it she did it she had to do it she [ __ ] did it you
- 2:05:34
think she's like the oj of the animal kingdom see the whites always pull us back they
- 2:05:40
won't let us near me she got off man killed her significant
- 2:05:45
other um
- 2:05:50
next one will be last dance and i love that they didn't make it bingeable yeah yeah i loved i had to watch every
- 2:05:55
sunday that kind of carried me through mad weeks of depression thanks i had something to look forward to yeah the epstein dock
- 2:06:02
was the jordan dawn yes ozark was this year yeah was it last uh delicious
- 2:06:10
no season four that's absolutely uh all right i thought that was your
- 2:06:16
before not boarding well i saw it this year whenever that's the thing about bingeables is it's
- 2:06:22
it's timeless emily in paris i liked emily in paris but i'm with you it was a corny show but i loved it yeah
- 2:06:28
i didn't have a fiancee at home she wanted to watch it she was good corny yeah yeah no my niece loves it
- 2:06:34
um [Laughter] doing one of our probably favorites of the year yeah i'm doing was phenomenal
- 2:06:41
the undoing for sure uh the undoing the outsider i liked uh disappointment i'm gonna add
- 2:06:47
into this bingeables jeffrey epstein doc super disappointed yeah didn't give me a [ __ ] thing in fact y'all could have
- 2:06:53
really given me a jeffrey epstein dock and you didn't yeah i was definitely disappointed by that he paid him off
- 2:06:58
i could see that he paid him off what about the social dilemma did y'all like that i love social events yeah no such a loan was great i don't think that was
- 2:07:04
really i think the jordan doc probably wins it for me for the year i can see that oh yeah little fires everywhere was was real dope on hulu i
- 2:07:10
don't know if y'all watched that but it was great yeah but they didn't hit the game when they shot against uh russell that's a
- 2:07:16
good point push off it was a question don't touch me while i'm hooping it was a push-up but either way yeah the
- 2:07:22
jordan dock wins it for me powerbook two i didn't do the fires everywhere what we're doing the channels black is king of the mandarin that and
- 2:07:28
the team was good at the end of power was that this year i believe it was this year it's on uh yeah powerbook two was this
- 2:07:34
year no no the end of the pow wow yeah that was this year that was this year was it
- 2:07:39
yeah it should have happened two or three years ago i want us to be clear that we
- 2:07:46
we're aware that when [ __ ] comes out at the top of the year it suffers from moments for moments like
- 2:07:52
this where you can't remember the impact it had can't remember what was going on when it came out uh
- 2:07:58
if the end of power was this year that's high on my list yeah it would have to be it was it was a moment albeit a
- 2:08:06
moment that should probably happened a couple years ago you know that wasn't this year that wasn't this year sneaker trey
- 2:08:12
song's intro on us that wasn't this year listen i respect 50 off listening to
- 2:08:20
the fans this year because that trey song [ __ ] went out with power and everyone said this is trash and 50
- 2:08:25
said bet changed it back they put out i think that first pop smoke cover oh yo this is trash 50 say hey change that
- 2:08:33
[ __ ] cover yeah and life was a really good consumer that's not on the list of bibles that we
- 2:08:39
had here but life was really good 50 had a good year man yeah he did 50 had a really good year music and tv yeah yeah yeah that can't go without
- 2:08:46
saying yeah did i so tv was good tb thrive and we're on your um your
- 2:08:52
honor now so facts that already seems to be one of the best of the year and when your honor is over
- 2:08:58
we'll be right in the snowfall yeah i'm curious to see how 2021 is with tv because most of it had
- 2:09:05
to be shot during a pandemic a lot of people were getting it done though and a lot of the stuff happens in
- 2:09:11
in atlanta in in la which was at least for a little while
- 2:09:17
wide open yeah i just want to see if i don't anticipate that it will suffer but just adding in all
- 2:09:24
the trials and tribulations that may come from a pandemic and trying to make things and create things in a pandemic
- 2:09:30
i'm just curious to see if it'll suffer at all in 2021 okay because they had to shoot this year for the most part yeah
- 2:09:36
yeah look we're going to see a lot of lingering effects of the pandemic in music and arts so
- 2:09:43
it is what it is mall 2021 what would you like to see get back to
- 2:09:48
normal first dating or touring touring because you can date when you tour
- 2:09:55
you can meet me dude you're going to date tour
- 2:10:05
do you all think that touring comes back this year absolutely late late this year not full-fledged
- 2:10:10
right yeah once we what knew but i think some spot dates
- 2:10:16
some people are on tours right now okay they ain't getting on the stage anywhere but they're on tour
- 2:10:21
okay you know what i mean i enjoyed the gazelle show on uh title the other night that was good it was cool i'm about to
- 2:10:28
ask that how do y'all feel about online i think it's cool man you gotta do something i like it as long as we get
- 2:10:34
like i said on the show uh i would like to get the live albums okay i like that i would like to i would like
- 2:10:40
to i would like that let's get the live albums play with the band a little bit yeah give us a different yeah give us a
- 2:10:45
different track under you know underneath some of the lyrics that we already know play with it like that and
- 2:10:50
just give us like a different feel different vibe we did we we having that conversation off mike or on my video over how
- 2:10:56
unplugged didn't capitalize this year yeah yeah mtv unplugged could have killed this year yeah
- 2:11:03
because those albums like i love the whole unplugged album yeah the lauren hill album unplugged is the second lauren
- 2:11:09
hill maxwell yeah this really could have been something you could have capitalized on this year
- 2:11:15
and i don't know why it wasn't the first thing companies thought of as far as this [ __ ] like we could really
- 2:11:20
create whole new live albums and bring that type of [ __ ] back especially in r b like very few rappers have done the live
- 2:11:27
album well just because it's not called four and hip hop but r b yeah yeah that's where you live and
- 2:11:32
die is off the live [ __ ] yeah and the remixes and the different bands like please give me
- 2:11:38
a unplugged version of your album or give me a whole new album that's unblocked do the lauren hill [ __ ]
- 2:11:43
summer walker go sit with a guitar and give me all your conspiracy theories over the same guitar riff i'm [ __ ] listening yeah i'm richard
- 2:11:51
feel like that can still happen at the top of the year during the pandemic yeah we'll call some people what do i know i
- 2:11:57
also feel like we probably can't properly end a year in wrap-up without talking about
- 2:12:03
uh podcasting yeah and i mean the greatest of all time
- 2:12:08
clearly the guys just the good guys but i mean how did you how do you feel how did you feel about podcasting this
- 2:12:15
year uh personally or the genre period
- 2:12:21
difficult both difficult but necessary to the consumer more than i think it's
- 2:12:26
ever been yeah but also difficult for the consumer because i feel like most of our listeners you used to listen on
- 2:12:33
their commute myself included i would listen to podcasts either when i was in the gym or when i was on
- 2:12:40
my way to a meeting or when i was sitting on the train or when i was traveling to go see my mom like that's when i listened to podcasting
- 2:12:46
same but i still think it was necessary for people in their homes to listen to something as well so yeah
- 2:12:54
a very difficult necessary process was podcasting i think it was um it was an interesting
- 2:13:01
year for podcasting because it one a lot of people jumped into it a lot
- 2:13:06
of celebrities um a lot of just you know creators tried their hand at it
- 2:13:12
ball players yeah athletes you know the people tried it they tried to get into it and i and you know
- 2:13:17
that's cool but i think it because of the pandemic it it it shook
- 2:13:23
the deck a little bit and some people stepped away from it completely we just stopped getting episodes
- 2:13:29
um some people fought through it they just figured out a way to record but zooms a lot of zooms a lot of zooms
- 2:13:36
but for me podcasting again this year gave people something to talk about
- 2:13:42
it was always something to talk about was times we come in we didn't have much of a list and those were probably some of our
- 2:13:47
greatest episodes this year when we didn't have but we didn't know what we were going to talk about we just knew that we
- 2:13:53
needed to get together and just because we weren't around anybody yeah so it was good to just see people
- 2:13:58
yeah you know what i'm saying at some point it was like that [ __ ] saved my life yeah like seeing y'all every week twice a week once a week you know i mean um
- 2:14:05
same it felt normal life felt somewhat normal and i think more importantly i think uh
- 2:14:10
companies corporations a lot of ceos they saw the importance of podcasting
- 2:14:16
yeah through this pandemic i think people started to really look at it and say oh no this is a this is a
- 2:14:21
serious thing yeah and this is a big money thing and it's also something that you can do from home and it's still kind of keep
- 2:14:29
pace with the quality at least of a studio overhead lower low budget that's another thing i
- 2:14:36
think outside of podcasting with everyone kind of understood this year overhead offices aren't really necessary
- 2:14:43
yeah like every last company and corporation was like yeah maybe i don't need to have someone
- 2:14:50
in my office 40 hours a week they're not as productive you just saw what happened when someone had 20 hours a week they
- 2:14:56
got everything done quicker yeah we're a happier employee right yeah yeah i think that kind of goes turns out
- 2:15:02
to be a good thing of just what works and what doesn't when you're forced to strip down to just the
- 2:15:08
necessities of what will be proactive and what we're trying to do here yeah
- 2:15:13
my message for the entertainers and saluting y'all and commending each and every one of you all that
- 2:15:19
contributed to the year under duress and such such a rare circumstance
- 2:15:27
same for the podcasters for me um salute to all of y'all who had to
- 2:15:32
persevere through lack of news um lack of content through beefing with
- 2:15:40
your co-host that you hate uh trying to be consistent we gotta get over there
- 2:15:48
we push trying to be consistent in a year where planning was
- 2:15:54
obsolete like so much went into like your craft uh all while trying to figure out how to
- 2:16:02
get paid from the [ __ ] um always talks about the pods that started and stopped
- 2:16:07
but for those of y'all that continued for those of y'all that like kind of see
- 2:16:14
the vision see where this is going and just are going to try your best to get there man i can't say enough about y'all
- 2:16:19
um i don't speak enough about y'all during the year because i'm busy fighting with some of the same things
- 2:16:24
that y'all are fighting with but at the end of the year to see the battles that all of us
- 2:16:31
as a community have had the weather i tip my hat to each and every podcaster out there i do
- 2:16:36
i do not and i appreciate all that positivity but let me get negative real quick oh yeah hang on somebody a lot of y'all
- 2:16:44
tried to pretend you was something you wasn't and then 2020 came and oh that perception disappeared it's
- 2:16:50
been an equalizer and then yeah we see who you actually [ __ ] are which is nothing
- 2:16:56
yeah no i could see how you got today i could
- 2:17:01
see how you got to that to that punchline
- 2:17:09
yeah a lot of y'all said you were something you wasn't man you saw it this year you ain't [ __ ] you're not talented
- 2:17:14
the perception [ __ ] was stripped away from you and now you're sitting here exactly who you are yeah well but no the
- 2:17:20
positivity of everyone that tried everybody that creators beers listen to the creators that create it
- 2:17:25
man what a creation you all are wow
- 2:17:32
i don't think i have anything else to cover for the year um you want to talk about next year yeah
- 2:17:38
hardest y'all looking forward to next year snow would be yeah snow in the neptunes
- 2:17:44
i like that i like the sound of that that scares me they already did joints on the last snow album and they
- 2:17:50
were really good usually there's neptune beats go look at the credits oh that's small i have to see
- 2:17:57
yeah when they remix the joint and put the pharrell wrapping burst on it i didn't hear it make waves make waves
- 2:18:04
didn't hear the waves i didn't i didn't you live so close to the shore here i didn't hear that but if snow drops
- 2:18:10
cool uh i'm looking forward to the blockbuster acts returning yeah i'm looking forward to the big dogs
- 2:18:16
coming back the big dog i ain't gonna hold you up you [ __ ] that provided the entertainment this year thank you thank
- 2:18:21
you bless blessings on blessings on blessings but i'm waiting on the [ __ ] i'm waiting
- 2:18:27
on the kendricks the coals the hoves the beyonces the drakes the
- 2:18:33
travis's the lexus lexus i'm waiting on that's
- 2:18:38
what i'm waiting on i'm waiting for the big rihanna i'm waiting for the [ __ ] that move the units
- 2:18:44
to peek out the window and say all right it's safe i'm coming now that's it 2021 is gonna be a crowded
- 2:18:50
year yeah i like it though yeah yeah i like it a lot of big movies i'm sure
- 2:18:55
a lot of big music yeah everyone has been waiting for 20 21. yeah let me see what happens everyone's
- 2:19:01
coming here's a cold take i anticipate the death deaths slowing up not because i think
- 2:19:08
y'all are going to be less violent but you can't get more deadly than this
- 2:19:13
year has been and so i really look forward to that yeah hopefully because going into the
- 2:19:19
20s god willing we had no idea what we were in for that ain't true in 2018 i said a whole bunch of [ __ ] about to
- 2:19:25
die yes but 20. and i know that sounds insensitive no but i'm not trying to do
- 2:19:31
that you saw this one coming yeah not just like this 2020 just like you saw quarter million yeah something no
- 2:19:37
totally different no i did not yeah yeah i'm hoping that 2021 is to more life oh god damn another
- 2:19:44
drink he's everywhere
- 2:19:51
[Laughter] no i'm hoping that this is this is a celebration of more life
- 2:19:58
uh more bags for y'all i'm looking to see the way that the country changes with the election
- 2:20:04
listen i'm looking to see a lot of [ __ ] in 2021 man and um in a moment of gratitude i'm
- 2:20:11
really thankful it was a good part of the year where my goal for the year was making it to the end of the year
- 2:20:17
it's a debit card for all of us yeah no 1 000 so to actually be here right this second
- 2:20:22
i thank god for it i don't take it for granted the fact that we're doing it with y'all and y'all are here i thank god for it i
- 2:20:28
don't take it for granted and i'm hoping that each of us bring in the year um with a better vibe
- 2:20:34
and a better temperament than uh the last year started with that's what i got and rest in peace to
- 2:20:40
everyone that lost someone or lost their life themselves in in 2020
- 2:20:46
