opener he did that by himself that was the more impressive part to me at what part of the show did you say to yourself

I buy merch personally I usually make my way to the merch boot first in an

instance like this I'm a goal while everybody inside get a couple pieces I always buy merch though all right all

meet and greet no picture what's up with y'all but if Gunner wanted your girl to come backstage and take a picture

a fan she ain't stupid so she's a fan but she can't go get the

been on Non-Stop repeat I'm trying not to talk about it because of how the audience feels about me talking my pup but you got the album

of course you guys I knew how to whistle is that the final album or just the one

uh 89 minutes of Music damn 21 21 songs

but there's a few interludes but like Puff marry my life interview like I mean I

interlude like the old joke the old school bad boy interludes that make the

project cohesive yeah I'm not gonna we'll really talk about this on Friday when the music is out and I can and I

can just play some but regardless of how you feel about the music his the production and the

arrangement on this album is unbelievable and then in music you're not playing

nothing are you I don't think so I just want to say it is September and we still

haven't heard of people about this verses I don't think I don't think that's it

which is what we said yeah I don't think that's happened at all sounded hard though it's west side

is he wrapping them yo I think that's the genius of this project for me is that

no he ain't okay good in the first in the first yeah I think he knows that now

though in the first eight songs these are probably 16 total

bars from him like he comes on for a four bar spot in this song then it's a four bar bridge in

the next song then he'll get 12 bars off on the beat that you know anybody that has ever wrapped is going to rap on this

beat it's like [ __ ] like that but listen Ty Dollar Sign showed up her showed up

baby face showed up Jasmine Sullivan scissor summer Walker

wow you were kind of expecting that Jazzy yeah but they all showed up Mary yeah like show you got to bring the a

game to this they showed up so really I don't I don't want to say this but I'm satisfied

like why would you not want to say that because normally the Drake album would

have that would have all of me satisfied musically cool dog I'm so cool this

thing has been on repeat Non-Stop and you about to give me Cleo soul and Drake is coming next like it's fourth quarter

so some of these you gotta kinda compartmentalize now because you're just

about to get bombarded with music and I'll talk about this puff out more on Friday but he do what he had to do

like that that weekend single with French and 21 Savage is probably my least favorite record on this project

and that's it a little bit um we'll talk once it drops yeah we'll talk once he drops

we didn't talk about it last public uh and we and I won't talk about it now but that Christian girl had a baby on Insta

live they filmed her childbirth yes yes well

she also was at a football game a day later or two days later with the newborn

that's youth she also named the baby Christian Junior

stuff like that it's going to bring us in into that

it is crazy I don't keep up with them I don't follow them uh and somehow the

business still just ends up all in my face because of that whole toxic community over there so I don't really

address stuff like that by having a baby on Insta live was dog I had for about a

year now they've every name or word associated with them I've had muted and you still can't expect that I thought

you can't have the a phone in the room

record videos no having a baby people recording people you know we could tell who wasn't there I was but I didn't

all right people have um you know shown their um shown giving birth on reality

shows like Kourtney Kardashian famously pulled the baby out of her vagina

on their reality show yeah Trader truth pulled a bullet out of

really care about a lot of that so this is like proof of it like all the

put a tour together people are gonna go I've had people in Atlanta telling me your dogs quietest cap every party they

playing his [ __ ] it's ringing off that album has been ringing off that was the takeaway for me with Gunner is that he's

doing New York and la and he's not doing Atlanta yeah

why would you not do Atlanta first I'm going to go to the biggest Market I can do first

in this instance anytime it's happened to me they weren't signed to me they weren't

that night that's where the details get murky she ends up at the same restaurant somehow unbeknown unbeknownst to each

other allegedly allegedly well somebody in a camp snitched

something happened at that restaurant to where she got really angry with him

whether it be for not showing attention or if he was dealing with somebody or just whatever it was and then they had

an incident in a car where Tink got physical with Berg but when she reported

this to the internet she was vague with the details so she made it seem like she had to defend

herself against a violent bird who already has some of those allegations on

his jacket she said yeah I'm not gonna play it but

she just danced around like yeah I saw him we got in we got into something I

had to defend myself and you know a lot has happened in our relationship that I've been quiet about

so if he want to put that video out that he got then just know I'm yeah that's

know what happened in there and that's not the first time you did that and I'm gonna handle I might sue your ass

but so apparently they got more news and the lady was never hit with a brick it

was an allergic reaction no she's a scammer who was attempted to do this multiple times yes there's I saw

some white girls and it was a white girl Tick Tock that's spreading like wildfire and now there's a beef because all of

the black women were killing us again for not protecting the girl from getting hit with the brick and here comes the white lady here to defend black men

it was actually like that's why where I got the allergic reaction that was something that I guess medical staff

Kutcher is part of a non-profit organization that works to rescue um sex trafficking survivors so when I

called them rape apologists I that was the hill I was willing to die on because I just I could not believe that these

two were the ones that sent in a letter and it's one thing if you you know you think that you know you're homing you

want to do what's but no stay the [ __ ] away from this wildfire and they didn't then their knee-deep and [ __ ] they're

they look crazy so so let me let me just first on my the questions when we had

that discussion that I post to you I'm like what's wrong with writing a character letter I was under

then you're gonna make sure that the person next to you maybe can put it on there's nothing wrong with you being selfish in that instant I think there

are positive and negative spins to things manipulation is one of them one I think about all the time is trust right

like I've gotten on I've gotten on flights with women that maybe had some

trust issues with me and would say things like hey I have trust issues I don't trust I have a hard time trusting

and I would be there thinking you have no idea just how much you do trust you couldn't even function in life if you

didn't trust that's true you trust that this pilot is going to drive this [ __ ] correctly you trusted that Uber driver

to not [ __ ] crash well enough so that you can go to sleep till we get there like your trust kicks in in ways that

you just paid absolutely no money from complete strangers it's a fact that's true that's a fact that makes sense

thousand percent we just use things at our convenience I just think we everybody groupies and they just hear

these terms and they rock with the terms and they run with it and time and most times they don't even know what that [ __ ] means I saw some [ __ ] where the

[ __ ] talking about narcissism and he was basically going on to say how um if you look up the definition of

narcissism it means like believing highly in oneself and he's saying why would we push our kids away from

narcissism and then he conversely read the definition of being humble and whatever dictionary he used the

definition of humble was almost like mad passive not having any uh

backbone yeah hoping you're so I mean Faith In Yourself Etc et cetera he's like we always try to commend the humble

and we shoot at the narcissist or narcissism and he was like yo it should be the opposite so

ladies and gentlemen we have a very very very special guest here

we have one of my one of my Inspirations is up here somebody that I look look up

to in the business World somebody I pocket watch see how how they got [ __ ] going we have the legendary

Stephen A Smith came to [ __ ] with us in the building

oh my God I thought he would have known better you know but it didn't run Stephen thank you for joining us man

please my pleasure man anytime I've called you you've always been there for me it's the least I could do it's true uh double bed in Bristol I hit the road

that's right early morning absolutely dead I came I did absolutely did you came to see Port 2 in New York City you

always been there I'm here Steve why are you posting your first take stats with

skip stats well you know what it's not so much that man it's like

you don't want to like rub it in or whatever I got so much respect for him because obviously my career first day

started because you know he brought me on but you know facts are facts and when

you have not necessarily him but so many people talking [ __ ] and misrepresenting what's going on it's like wait a minute

I thought we were about facts and so it's like this is what we're doing

is what it is and and you know when I sit up there and and I'm not going to

lie to you it's you know sometimes it is a black thing I've been first take you know they were doing fine they were

doing all right when when skip had a potpourri of people coming on the show with them

but ESPN was defined by SportsCenter and SportsCenter was the flagship

skip asked me to come on board I come on board in April of 2012. by may we were

number one and we've been number one since man of 20 uh 2012. and so just think about

it and and I think that you know to answer the question just just straight up and down

you got to remember I started off in newspapers and I'm a columnist and the reason why that was

such a big deal to me is that when you're doing a column that means you have a license to

editorialize and give your opinion if you younger you don't know the history of the newspaper industry before podcast

before.com it was radio television newspaper magazines and most black folks then have a license

to give their opinions you had to work your way up in order to do that and so when I was named the

sports columnist for the Philadelphia Enquirer in in in October I'm sorry in

March of 2003 I was the 21st black in American history to be named the general

Sports columnist which means only 20 people came before me that had a license to give their opinions and so when I'm

saying we understand as black people how difficult it is to get into that

position well I did it and then not only did I did it we transitioned the television and then I'm number one there

and Not only was I number one I've been number one for damn near 12 years and y'all acting like I'm just running my

mouth and I'm not talking about y'all I'm just talking about people in the industry trolls whatever whatever and I'm like nah it ain't going down like

that it's not that's not what happened if you remember I made news about a year year and a half ago ESPN made these

layoffs and it was this white dude from Sports Illustrated that was like why

they they fired all of these people but they kept Stephen A and I was like

but I'm saying I make money it's like like it's not they're not paying me because oh you got numbers well my

numbers generate revenue revenue is what pay for other people and so I'm bringing in

over 200 to 150 to 200 million dollars to the company are you talking about I

should lose my job I I literally everything in my power stop I mean I remember I was on first take one day and

I almost said the word [ __ ] and I and my words are going to be [ __ ] pay attention you in this

business to see what pisses me off is that that man had access to this business he's in the business he knew

the numbers he knew the facts but he wouldn't tell and so my point is when I see folks doing podcasts and stuff like

that I get where cats are coming from if you don't know you don't say if you're doing music if you you you acting and

you're acting whatever the case may be but you're not in that business I'm good with you you don't know what you don't

know there's a lot of stuff about your business I don't know but in this business I do know and I knew that that

writer knew that and I knew that some of the critics knew that so I'm like why the hell ain't y'all saying so so guess

what I'm gonna be that dude that tells the world because at some point somebody gonna get eyes and tipped off to the

fact that you do have that information and you keeping it from the public why

and that's why you hear me and you see me posting the stats or whatever I've been number one you know buy a landslide

for 12 years and counting this is what we've done now I could fall off the

cliff tomorrow but you can't take away what I did for the last 12 years that's a fact that's a

fact I agree now when relationships break up God romantic

relationships I believe there to be like breakup etiquette right like okay certain places that I know you like to

go maybe I won't go over there certain people you know that we was mutual friends hey maybe I won't right be so

maybe I won't speak to them as frequently as I used to right so the stat thing I can understand got it

but the second that Shannon became available and I like that you did this by the way

I like that you but hey I make no corn I would like him over here I like that for the business but for the

skip stuff I was like oh no that that's a jab that that hurts you're gonna go after the co-host so soon

you didn't care I didn't look at it that way got it I would have looked at it that way if Shannon left of his own

volition I'm telling you he did it I'm telling you he was pushed out that's the first that's the first time I've

ever heard that well I'm telling you and it's fact now they can deny it he wouldn't I can promise you that

he was pushed out he didn't want to leave he was notified that your services

would no longer be needed but again that's his story but I'm telling you what I know I'm giving you facts and so

when I saw that it wasn't just that I know the brother's talented it wasn't just that I know he's a three-time Super

Bowl champion in an NFL Hall of Famer it wasn't just that I knew that he had been doing television the last six years I

saw me from the standpoint of I was let go in 2009 and left the dead and they

were writing my Epitaph and they were like Stephen A's careers over he blew it he had the opportunity of a lifetime he

he effed it up and blah blah blah and I was like there was nobody

in the present-day Stephen A Smith position as the guy in sports media as

the executive producer for the number one sports morning show that could speak up for me at that time and I said this

is why I'm here it's my responsibility so you know it's nothing new when you look at swagoo Marcus Spears and you see

his new contract when you see Ryan Clark and all the things that he's doing when you see a Kimberly Martin that was a NFL

reporter and now she's on television when you see a Monica McNutt and also like you know what I've I'm at a point

in time where if I don't want you on first take you ain't coming on first take and if I don't want you on first

taking you ain't coming on first take the likelihood is that you're gonna have a problem getting on television because that's the number one morning showing

that Stephen a feeling you for that show why should we feel you for XYZ show it's just a chain reaction it's not that I

have any sway over those other shows but it's just a natural chain reaction and so I knew the position that I was in

whether he came to First Take a knot it was important that I let the world know

he still wanted because when they let me go I was on the verge of being Blackboard yo I couldn't even get a job

at bet or TV One me it went from me making 1.3 million

having quite frankly from 2005 to 2007 to being on NBA Countdown during that

same period and doing ESPN Radio to waking up one day and from one from four jobs to zero I was unemployed for damn

near 10 months in 2010 nobody would hire me I could barely get an interview and

when something like that happens obviously the belief is you're being

blackballed okay do I have proof of that no my proof was the fact that because

nobody's touching me and so you know when that happened I remembered that

feeling and I remembered how people might have spoken up and say we love Stephen hey blah blah but when I

was unemployed I didn't hear a positive word about me I didn't hear anybody going front and center and saying we

want Stephen A I saw none of that it was quiet and so what I wanted to do was it's a different day and I'm not going

to leave this brother out there hanging out now I'm not willing to bring him on the show and sacrifice Ryan Clark

sacrifice swag gulmarket Spears even mad dog Russo to Dan olowsky's Demeter comes

or Kimberly Martins or anybody else Kendrick Perkins or anybody I'm not willing to sacrifice that but if this

brother is willing to come on board and be a part of that mix and a part of that family welcome to the family I went to

the honchos I said I want them they said Stephen you know we saw XYZ got into argument on the air I said don't worry

about that I said he dealing with folks over there here he would be dealing with

me I'm telling you I got him let him come and they were like all right their co-signer right and that's what happened

and even if you didn't come on your team the fact that you gave him a welcome back he would have got picked up exactly

and that's exactly what my intent was that's my responsibility and that's why you'll see me you know you see you know

listen y'all got a podcast you see uh you know other cats in the industry Club Shay Shay that's Shannon Sharps podcast

you see uh Ryan Clark in the pivot you see a whole bunch of stuff what do you see me doing on the show promoting it

now why would I do that I got my own podcast I'm doing my own thing because I

don't want anybody to fail I want us all to win and I'm gonna make sure that when

people look at me they know that I ain't just some black man I'm a brother and I'm gonna look out as best as I possibly

can that's how I roll it's not going to always be the most popular thing I'm not gonna always make friends that I'm doing this not to say I'm not going to piss

people off because they might disagree or whatever the case may be but when you look at me and you look at my soul at the end of the day I'll put myself up

next to anybody because I know where my heart lies talk what do you say

to the people what do you say to the people

that say they saw the tension between you and

Max are developing on air before his departure from the show did you hear any

of that I heard some of it I would take full responsibility for that that's totally my fault okay and the reason why

it was my fault because I didn't like working with him man it's just that damn simple I didn't like

it I thought the show was stale um I thought that we had flatlined when

it came to the public at large and I'm trying to win I mean I didn't want to go from number

one to number two when skip left that's not what I wasn't having that that [ __ ] was not going to happen did anything in

the numbers say that that you might have been headed that way no but to me it did creatively to me it did not just

creatively but the consistency of the number in other words it wasn't going this way yeah it was just there and and

not only that it's like it's like us being in this room right now come on y'all y'all know the difference between

something that's stale and something you pumped up for it's just no absolutely and so and so that's what I was feeling

and it was like you know listen I had mad respect from him from the standpoint

that white dude highly intelligent ivy league educated from Colombia smart as a

whip can talk his ass off can talk about anything and I get all of that but you

weren't an athlete and you weren't a journalist and the the absence of the two

components left people wondering why should we listen to you

okay well you might have had that figured out on SportsNation or you might have had that figured out on another

show but on this show if you looked at the content emanating

in the social Stratosphere meaning YouTube and other components that you use to measure once cachet uh Q ratings

focus groups all of these different things it was like I was damn near doing the

show by myself because we were Oceans Apart in terms of cachet well how are you Oceans Apart from me if you sit

right across from me five days a week for the whole two hours because one of us is resonating and one of us is not in

that platform and so for me I was like look this is what it is and we had

a number of conversations one-on-one many many times I know this

audience I know what they looking for I know what they need etc etc at some point you're going to do what you need

to do or you don't and if you don't do what you need to do I'm gonna get somebody who will

that's me and I made no qualms about it now I didn't have the authority

to let him go but you have coffee with the person that how about you man how

about that and so and so and so what I did was I've been very honest and very

consistent about it there's nothing personal we didn't have we want enemies everything to be real we ain't spoke

since other than High by you know or if I had to go on the show when they were doing the morning show I would get

interviewed but there's been no conversation since and that's fine with me there's no there's

no problem because it wasn't like we were boys or anything like that but at the end of the day it was all business

to me and it was about look man I'm trying to win and I don't believe I can win with you

that doesn't mean it's your fault it means we don't work so when I went

upstairs to management my exact words were look

if he's that important to you give him first take Stephen

I'm telling you what I said I'm only giving you what I said old school I'm only giving you what I said he was he

went in that office two hours later I got the call we making the change

yeah you just set fire he said redistribute see we got to learn

the corporate way to say some of that [ __ ] no no no but it wasn't a fire because remember well what happened was

ultimately you got your you had the radio show and you had your own afternoon show see where I'll push back

on anybody who talked about the career the firing I'll go back to me in 2009.

Stephen A your services were no longer we're not renewing your deity you're not renewing your deal

um it is not a unilateral decision and just like that the next month when my contract expired first of all they let

me know in April my last day was May 9th of 2009. my

contract was up June 30th they didn't even let me work through the finals yeah we will not be needing your services any

longer and I was unemployed so you got to understand it I'm not going to embrace it the way y'all might or other

people might from the standpoint of losing your job oh I'm getting reassigned and I got not only I'm going

from first take to get my own show in the afternoon and a Morning Show and my money's not compromised right I lost my

job can't get fired yeah he didn't get fired I could have easily been it listen if I didn't have any money saved

I would have literally been on the unemployment line

do you understand that I would have been under unemployment line and that was before this era of podcasts and

independent journalism kind of there you go flip [ __ ] there you go so that's what happened and so when people talk about

well damn this is what happened I'm like y'all don't know [ __ ] let me show you what fire it is let me show you what

that's like you understand you ain't putting me in another position where I didn't look and by the way

I knew and I was assured that exactly what happened for him was going to happen when the move was made because

I'm here to tell you despite the way I felt we were struggling in terms of Sizzle Pizzazz Etc

I would not have insisted on that if I knew it would have left them unemployed I would not have done that because

you've been there before that's right when were there any Rumblings before all of the all of the layoffs were reported

were there right recent the recent ones were were there any Rumblings uh in the

company that that was to come or was just just a shock to the people it was it was it was to come which is why it

pissed me off about with my colleagues first of all we knew it was coming the moment that Bob Iger returned as the head of

and CEO of Walt Disney and a few weeks later it was announced that

7 000 layoffs was coming yes you can't work you got to be a new fool a new kind

of fool to know to not know that ESPN is going to suffer Some Cuts when

it's parent company announces that 7 000 cuts are coming to make up for five and a half billion dollars

covet hits parks close movie theaters clothes ESPN no live sporting events we

took a tremendous loss I gave back 15 of my salary fifty percent of my salary okay because

they come to you asking you is that something you can do you don't you're not forced this by the way yeah what

that's right it's not it's not it's not forced it's voluntarily they came to me I was the first one that said yeah here

you go well what would we see all wait who's coming to me to say that right now if the boss if if you lost one of the

bosses you lost a patreon deal and you came to us and said yo [ __ ] is tight right now would y'all take or consider

and I do it again and I do it again because here's the reason why here's the

reason why if you don't do it then those cats you making millions but

those cats is making 150 200 000 a whole bunch of them gonna lose their jobs now some of them are gonna lose their jobs

anyway but even more you can't be somebody that's just that that's not just a talent but they've

asked you to lead you've or you volunteered to lead you are considered a

leader but then all of a sudden it's just about you sure I want my money I earned it I didn't want to give back a

damn thing but looking at the landscape I knew inevitably what they were going

to ask me to do and I didn't hesitate there was no I think about it I get back to you whatever they said Stephen A you

know this is something that you know we're going to have to ask of our employees at some point I said take mine now here you go that's all right I'll be

okay

and also you hope that this is going to be remembered once we study the shift

and if you don't do it let me tell you my Petty brain now if you if you don't do it remember yeah

absolutely but that wasn't on my mind that at that time I had agreed to my new deal

um even though the reports ain't right the bottom line is I'm getting paid ain't no question Stephen ain't a blind man you can see that you're getting paid

yeah you've always been a a classy like

well-dressed well put to like you but when when a new contract came [ __ ]

changed a little bit a little bit you start when you start coming in in the morning you thought this is my [ __ ] this is my show it's my [ __ ] right excuse me

Molly pardon me let me hey producer no I'm gonna get to this next Point like it look I like to see that it had to throw

your [ __ ] weight around up there God damn it it had to happen bro because we've just been too through too much I

mean all of us you know I mean you know you doing what you do y'all doing what y'all do me doing what we know what [ __ ]

we've been through and it's not about flexing but it is about letting somebody

know you know this [ __ ] was earned right because they ain't giving me anything and so as a result of that

you want to make sure it's understood and you want to project to the audience

out there don't look at anybody else come right to me it's me you know it's it's like you know I don't care who it

is it's like this is this is this is my [ __ ] and it's my [ __ ] until they say

otherwise because it's really theirs but they left it up to me and they've asked me to take over the platform and I take

that very very seriously but with that comes responsibilities and when they tell you that we hemorrhaging dollars

and you see the the times that we living in at the time covert and all of that stuff and they're

like you know we're trying to prevent ourselves from laying off or even more people

then you got to step up when your dollars are guaranteed and you know you don't have [ __ ] to worry about it's like

okay so all right I'm not gonna make you know nine ten million this this year

instead it's gonna be seven eight or seven I I think I'll be all right you know I think I'll be all right and that

and that's what I mean you can't be with trust me how about that yeah how about that you know when when you were before

this last contract of yours with you being the man up there was the

was there ever really a threat of you leaving like I come in here a lot when you was going through that and try to

figure out how a man in your position can even utilize The Leverage while you're there

here's the hard part for me when it comes to that leverage that people speak

to there are a lot of conversations that your agent has you know and your bosses

have and you don't have access to that conversation I do

it's the executive VP speed dial is the other executive VP

speed dial you know the president you know you go to the game

and you watch the Jets and the bills on Monday Night Football well I was in the suite with them

you know the CEO of Walt Disney the CEO of Walt Disney yo Stephen A I'm coming

to town you free for dinner so when you have and you've been able and fortunate enough to cultivate those conversations

sometimes that's a disadvantage for you but it's better for the whole

because what happens is is that I can have a conversation with him about everybody that's under that umbrella not

necessarily as individual players but looking at what's in the best interest of the corporation okay the business

boom I think this will work for us this will work for us that work for these are our ideas you can't do that when

everything's about you because if you're having those conversations and you're utilizing those personal moments to try to Big up

yourself then it becomes about you and if it becomes about you then it's not in the best interest of the business and if it's not in the best interest of the

business why would I want to talk to you you got heat for that I saw it I saw you say it was on your podcast yeah you said

or somebody's parking when I go to work uh my objective is to think of how to

make my uh boss money and you got heat for saying that I didn't understand it because because it's some ignorant

[ __ ] out there they don't they don't get it they don't get the big picture here's what I my complete sentence in my book straight shooter

I've said it on the air on many occasions I've said it in speeches in a whole bit The Day My Life changed when my mother

got arrested her so held me it held me accountable for what happened when I got fired in 2009 and I had to look at

myself and I had to go about the business of trying to resurrect my career so she had the mirror up oh yes

no she gave me the handheld mirror in the tray and I was like what is this for she's like I'm wondering is there for

when you're ready to look at yourself this is what you did you got to be accountable for the [ __ ] you did you know and that's what she told me she

didn't curse though but that's what she said and when I thought about everything

that I had done wrong I was egotistical I was arrogant

I was selfish but the biggest crime is I was stupid

I did not master my business I thought

I was the man because people screamed my name I thought I was the man because you saw me on TV you saw me on the side of

bus stop so you saw me in commercials my cue scores my folk were focus groups were saying about me the revenue that I

was generating for the company what that materialized into I had no knowledge of

that so when it came time for negotiation they were the ones with all the leverage because they had the Intel

I didn't I had emotion and so when I came with my mom who's been there when I

came with my emotion and it did and it didn't go my way and I reacted

emotionally I got burned and what my mother did ultimately led to me meeting

with the president of ESPN and ABC at the time George Bodenheimer who educated

me about what was being said about me specifically and how it had derailed my

career and when I received that education I went about the business of making sure to make the necessary Corrections so I could be better and so

as a result when you hear me on my podcast especially this Stephen A Smith show you hear me on first take and I'm

trying to break stuff down I'm trying to even say most of the time I'm writing you're wrong what I'm saying is

this is the game I'm helping you to it because I've been in it I've been in

Corporate America for 30 years oh Steven you you know you're a company guy you corporate what [ __ ] right I am I've

been here for 30 years what would you be if you've been here for 30 years this is the game I know me stepping out and

starting my own podcast and owning my own podcast my RSS feed my masters and all of this other stuff owning my own

production company that's new how that's that's now but that wasn't the case for the first damn near 30 years of my

career I didn't know how were you able to do that how are you able to do that there's no way that any of us watching

who sees the role that you have up there would think that ESPN is letting you have your own podcast at all I we were

shocked when uh Shannon got to leave with his right like we didn't understand that right how how do they let you do

that well first of all relationships matter that does matter yeah they want

to protect the business but at some point

in time they have to ask themselves at what cost Stephen A in 2009

ain't Stephen ain't now and if you have to go up against me now you're still the

monolith but some things can happen that you don't want to happen if I go to the

competition what could that be like what kind of detriment can that have on your bottom line not to mention that I've

been entrenched this since 2003 so you talk about somebody that knows where the body lies and where the skeletons are it

would be me you know so and so when you got all of that going on not that I roll like that but the point is

it's a good it's it's a good joke to have so I'm just saying you got to take all of those things into consideration

and then you have to take it to Grant I would always advise people of this pay attention to precedent

precedence important like give you a perfect example we could talk about the modern day example right now

you had a bunch of people that were pissed off that that when we let it laid off these

people at Disney look at the deal that Pat McAfee got how he get all that damn

money you ain't here Stephen they complaining you know why because I understood what happened you

understand I understand the game ESPN did not hire Pat McAfee

they acquired his business he had a deal

FanDuel had paid him 120 million dollars he had his own YouTube channel he had

over 2 million subscribers he was getting this paper from FanDuel

ESPN acquired that business and so they don't view it as an employee

you know he has to pay to put his lights on he has to pay for his producers he

has to pay to produce the content he has to do all of that we cutting you a check to do these kind of things Barbara

Walters years ago the view very popular I'm sure Barbara Walters was a co-owner

of that show oh you better rule she co-owned it why did she call on it because she went to the honchos at

Disney and presented created the idea and presented her creative they liked it

they said we're in so they purchased they would they decided to go in on it

with her I don't know whether it was 40 60 50 50 or whatever but she was a

co-owner so yeah to Disney their Partners but to everybody else on that

show oh you work for her because she owns the content okay so how

do you get that by creating your own content and so when I saw that oh we

open for business yeah because if I could come up with something to create

who knows what the possibilities are and if I don't come up with something to create

then I deserve employee status what I did was go to them and said

here's what I've been doing this is what I want to do

what I'm asking of you requires not a single dime of you out of your pocket it's just the freedom to show you what I

can create so I can come back to you and various others and partner up and create content

and they said you've earned the right for us to see what you got because all I

had to do to get that deal was promised in first look First Look 30 days which I'll gladly

well you don't boom and we good and you and when you

when you spoke on president Pat McAfee is already Pat McAfee that it works there you go well even if it does

we don't know what the work is he just started I'm just saying if he has Aaron Rodgers every Tuesday no matter what

he's doing he could be feeding his kids and he popped and he pop in there to talk I I've been very vocal about that

being like a media cheat code and rap it would be like if I got access to Drake every Tuesday to do my show he's

supposed to get paid but here's what you mean Stephen A Smith and you have the ear and a relationship with damn near

every pop and black athlete in the world I have the same cachet if not more well you got to remember something oh yeah I

don't know what I'm just saying so now but this is the deal Aaron Rodgers

with someone Pat McAfee had before he ever got to you oh yeah you know I know I'm aware so and so because of that

giving props he did that because let me tell you something right now what's our problem if we gonna be real about it

let's be real about it you got a lot of cats in our community that ain't trying

to do that for us true let me see we talk a lot and this is what and this is when we if we gonna have a real

conversation let's have a real conversation that's why I tell them all the time because let me tell you something right now you got a lot of

cats a lot of brothers they ain't trying to look out they ain't trying to look out not even a little bit that's why I

only want to hear [ __ ] from them about what the [ __ ] I'm supposed to do you ain't help me I'm doing this so I'm on

where you at right because for me there is not an athlete like you saw me on

Paul George you're going to see me on Pat Bev and you saw me on Draymond it's whatever listen I covered the sport you

called me the least I could do is be there and you know me well enough to know if if you look out for me you know

me for years you know I'm a lookout that's how I roll but you got some of these cats they don't give a [ __ ] they

making their money they got this social media platform and their attitude is

[ __ ] you we ain't gotta do nothing for you or whatever well damn it I didn't say you needed me

what I said is you can't look out and so we know you can't or we know you

don't want to cool then don't [ __ ] when I do my own thing and I'm making it

happen because you didn't help me and and if and again if we're talking and we talk in sports and all that stuff

personally ain't nobody getting to know personal stuff you don't end up in police blogs okay if you ain't in the

police blotters if you don't tell me your story one of those two things or both of those things is none of my business

look at my history I got nothing to say your business is your business I'm

talking about the sport but you can't don't look for my help when you shoot two for 20. don't look for my help when you drop three passes don't look for my

help when you dropping touchdown passes or you striking out four times at five at bats and I can't help you I cannot do

that but when it comes to what you bring to the table um I'm gonna always be fair I'm gonna

always be fear but that's all I owe you I owe you fan I owe you Finn it's not a damn thing else

all right we got we have sports fights to have sure yeah I'm sure you do I had

a rough I had a rough morning because I'm surrounded by like Cowboys fans it's

my good friend of 20 years who's a Cowboy fan right my condolences somewhere over here another Cowboy fan

we're really excited about this 40 to nothing ass whipping that right the Giants got okay

do you want to speak to that the way you were speaking to me earlier I want to just talk about I know you the um

Anta you [ __ ] the Alamo in your opinion what I'm asking you is Cowboy fans yes

yeah I can't stand y'all asses but I mean it affectionately we know um

objectively yeah if you can do so yes I can where do you feel we stand this year

I think y'all can win it all I'm not going to say you will um there's a black cat running around

just ain't gonna win um but it's hard for me because like I know Micah Parsons I know Trayvon Dixon

those cats I got a lot of love for those Brothers man and they are Elite and I think that a legitimate argument could

be made to Dallas Cowboys got the best defense in the NFL it's it's the athletes the speed and the fancy and

here's the deal the secondary with Diggs and Gilmore combined with

the story as it pertains to Popovich with that incident no that is with that

fact that they would schedule these back-to-backs and he wanted to rebelize

end of his career so if you could if you could win three straight miss it two

years and then come back and win three straight why couldn't he win two straight in the middle

know that they could have beat that Rockets team as a Nick fan I watched that rocket team closely and I just don't know
